My One And Only - Chapter 31 Lets Get Married
” You look like a cute teddy bear. ” Arnav replied, laughing. Hearing his voice, her eyes widened in astonishment. She had never heard him laugh before, it was unrestrained and joyous. She smiled a little.
As soon as Arnav noticed her facial expressions, he quietened down, turning back to his usual cold self. Before he could speak anything, Sofya said in a cracked voice, ” I’m sorry! ”
” What for? ”
” For.. for the accident and for ruining your shirt. ” she replied, pointing at the wet marks on his shirt.
” It’s ok. You are fine now. ” and to her surprise, he again pulled her into a comforting hug. Despite the heaviness in her stomach, it fluttered at the feeling of her body pressed against his. She sunk into the the warmth of his side, appreciative of the small gesture. His touch made her body warmer somehow, the future seeming a little less bleak.
” Let’s get married. ” Arnav said, still holding her close against his chest.
” We will, in two weeks time. ” Sofya replied, not understanding the actual meaning of his statement.
Arnav released her, looking her into the eye. Sofya held his gaze, staring at him with warmth. Sighing, Arnav put his hand into the pocket and withdrew a small velvet box.
Getting down onto one knee, he opened the box to reveal a beautifully carved diamond sapphire ring.
” Sofya Khemka, I want to spend my rest of life with you. Will you marry me? ”
* Flashback *
Two days after the visit to Bridal Reflections..
Arnav was having trouble working. There were a heap of papers which lay strewn across his desk, but still he couldn’t concentrate. Every time he decided to divert his mind, it wondered back to the time he had kissed her.
His life had never been so perfect as they addressed it in business magazines. He had always found himself running from something with his behavior at each point of his existence, especially after his mother’s death. He was familiar to the loneliness and now, he refused to uncover his emotions, the same kinds which make a person lose their mind and thrust to turn weaker. So whatever his innersole suggested, he had not even considered it and always told it to shut up.
However, turns out that the trick does not work anymore. He did the exactly opposite to what he actually thought of performing earlier, and it did nothing than to take his rage to different levels. He was often irritated with himself for not being to able to ignore these stupid emotions, which started taking place when Sofya entered his life.
Quietly, Arnav had begun feeling something on the inside, which he was not quite certain of. All the same it’s slowly residing inside, it is frustration mixed with annoyance, and knowing the reason behind it makes it so unsettling and problematic.
Over the years, since his mother’s death, he had successfully created a wall around himself, making himself devoid of any emotion and trying to stay away from the vicious cycle of love, since ‘ she ‘ had left him. It was all too sudden and he couldn’t bear the pain in his heart.
But the arrival of Sofya in his life had changed everything. She had managed to slowly change him, without him realising it, even managing to break the walls that he had created around himself. As hard as he might try, he had to admit Sofya was no ordinary woman. He felt complete with her. Her radiant smile and shining eyes was enough to allure anyone.
Maybe she felt the same way? he couldn’t help but think.
There was a knock on the door. George and Annie entered, carrying another heap of files in their hands. They placed it on the coffee table as the main table was already occupied. Arnav groaned. Leaning back, he rubbed his eyes in exhaustion only to find Sofya’s face looming in his mind. It was like a beacon in the darkness.
Abruptly, opening his eyes, he cursed himself.
Sofya, Sofya and Sofya!
Returning to his work, he found George still standing their respectfully, looking at him.
” What is it? ” Arnav asked wearily, picking the pen up again to sign more documents.
” It’s about young master. He has been trying to contact the Vipers for the last two days. ” George answered cautiously.
Arnav looked up, all trace of weariness gone from his face. The Vipers were one of the most dangerous gangster in the New York City. Even the police weren’t able to catch them single handedly. Why was Advay looking for them?
” I believe he is trying to make some kind of deal with them. ” George replied, answering the next unasked question.
