My One And Only - Chapter 46 At Least Get A Room
Silence.
Sofya spoke nothing. It was true that she had never been afraid of anyone in her entire life and had always been outwardly spoken. But for some reasons, that she could not explain, she thought it was best to keep quiet now. She did not even dare to look up at him. Hoping against hope, she wished Nancy would come in right at this moment and save her from this man’s clutches but that was not what happened.
Minutes passed in silence, neither of them spoke.
Sofya could clearly hear his shallow breathing in the quietness of the room. Then there was a knock on the door. Feeling blessed, Sofya shouted ” Come in ” before Arnav could stop her.
But it was not Nancy, it was Susan.
” Hi, sis — ”
Susan stopped midway in her sentence, a look of horror on her face at the sight before her. Feeling red in her face, she quickly covered her eyes and turned around, her back towards them.
Sofya elbowed Arnav in the stomach making him double up in pain, but he did finally let her go.
” I am so glad you are here Susan. ” Sofya said, walking towards her sister, all the while throwing dagger looks at Arnav.
” But I am not. ” Susan replied, pouting her face. ” If you both are gonna do it, at least get a room! ”
Arnav sniggered shamelessly while Sofya glared at him sub consciously. This man was really too much, no sense of time and no sense of humour. Susan was standing there with a broad smile on her face, as if she had seen and achieved her heart’s desire.
” Anyway ” she spoke, breaking off the awkward silence which seemed to be lingering in the room, ” I am here for you bro-in-law. I need to ask you something. ”
Sofya scoffed off, now glaring at Susan in return.
” What do you mean you are here for him? Aren’t you here to meet me? ”
Susan’s smile widened. A little tease won’t hurt anybody, especially her darling sister.
” Wrong. Why would I be here for you? As if seeing you at home wasn’t enough! ”
Arnav laughed out loud with Susan joining him. Sofya glowered at both of them. What she couldn’t believe was that her sister, her own sister was conspiring with her future husband against her. This was too much to handle.
” Get out! ” she retorted sharply, pointing towards the door.
” Ok, bye! ” with that they both were out of the door. Once in the corridor, Arnav gave a thumbs up to Susan for irritating Sofya. They both decided to go to the company cafe in order to have some important talk. On the way, Susan told Arnav all about Sofya – her likes and dislikes, stories of their growing up together, her cheeky habits during school days, their parent’s death, the pranks she played on her sister just to make her laugh, and finally Sofya acquiring the company after their father’s death.
” Well sis was the one most affected by our parents death ” she said softly, as they sat down at a corner table and ordered two cappuccinos. ” I was too young to remember anything properly while Grandpa was out serving his duties. So all the responsibility fell upon her. ”
The waiter arrived bearing their order on a tray. One of the cappuccinos had a heart made on the top foam, while the other one simply had a teddy bear smiling up at them.
” But still she never showed any sign of weakness and took upon her duties perfectly well. Moreover, she has always been a pillar of strength for me, as if mom and dad were here, supporting me. ”
” Take this one! ” and she pushed the heart cappuccino towards Arnav while sipping on her own. After a while, she looked up at Arnav and asked him in a soft voice, ” You will take care of her, won’t you? ”
After hearing and learning about Sofya’s past, the hardships and the trauma that she had to face on her own, Arnav wished for nothing more than to protect her from the rest of the world.
He wanted to hold her hands forever and never let them go.
He wanted to cuddle her and provide all the warmth and care that only he could.
He wanted to love her as much as possible, so that there was nothing more that she could ask for.
He wanted to shield her from all the sadness and problems in the world, and hope they would befall him instead.
With these thoughts in mind, he nodded.
” Of course I will. I promise. “
