My One And Only - Chapter 57 Cat And Mouse Game
In the car, Sofya had called Murat and asked him to come to the hospital. To her surprise, Murat was up working on a case. According to him it was very important, Important enough to convert a person’s life. When did he become so hard working? The Murat Sarsilmaz she had known in high school, was supposed to be a lazy and meticulous person. But then again, time changes people. She herself was a perfect example of it.
Meanwhile, she did not dare speak a word to Arnav. The cold aura that seemed to radiate from him was dangerous. She herself couldn’t help but feel a little intimidated by him. But she seemed to have guessed that his borderline had been touched. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so angry right now. Just what was his borderline?
Arnav had a death grip on the steering wheel as he made a U turn on the empty road. He was holding the wheel so hard that his nails were digging into his flesh, his eyes blazing. If anyone saw him right now they would be running in the opposite direction for their life. He tried to control his anger, remembering that Sofya was by his side but it did not do much to calm him down.
‘ How dare they touch her? I had warned them. ‘
All he could think about was how much pain she must have suffered when it happened. But it was all his fault, he had failed to protect her. He would not blame her if she did not want to see or talk to him again.
The car halted in front of the hospital half an hour later. A white Mercedes Benz was already parked in front, indicating that Murat had already arrived. They alighted as a strong cold wind blew, hitting their faces. Shivering slightly, Sofya tightened the jacket around her body as she asked Arnav, ” Where to? ”
He did not speak but motioned with his hand. The hospital was completely dark inside except for the corridor lights and nurse’s station. They took the elevator and went to fourth floor where Dr Lashkar and Murat where talking to each other. At the sound of footsteps, both men turned around.
” How’s she? ” Arnav asked as soon as he had the doctor’s attention.
Dr Lashkar looked at Sofya and replied in a low voice, ” She’s fine. Miss Khemka, ” he stepped forward, extending his hand ” I am Dr Lashkar, the family doctor of Raizada family. I was also the one who umm.. treated your sister in that unfortunate circumstances. ”
Sofya shook his hand as she remembered that horrible night. She replied gratefully ” Thank you! ”
” Take me to see her. ” Arnav said, his voice heavy with rage. Murat placed his hand on his shoulder to placate him and shook his head, glancing warily at Sofya.
He spoke in a low voice so that Sofya and Dr Lashkar who were walking a foot in front of them could not hear. ” Have you told Sofya about her? ”
Arnav knew what he meant. ” Nope but I intend to tell her now. This cat and mouse game has to come to an end. It’s now or never. ”
” But today? And in this way? ”
Arnav glanced at Murat and smiled a little, ” I don’t have a choice. Do I? ”
Murat knew what he was talking about. Even if he did not tell Sofya now, there would come a point of time after their marriage when he would not be able to hide it anymore. He was responsible for her. She had no one in this entire world to rely upon. And it was possible that Sofya may misunderstand him then.
The four people walked to the end of the corridor and entered the ER room. Sofya was very curious as to who this person was who could have such an impact on Arnav. A girl was lying on the bed, her head covered in bandages. There was a drip attached to her hands for blood transfusion and medicines.
She moved closer to have a good look at her. The girl looked to be around twelve or fourteen years of age. She had a chubby face with long eyelashes and straight black hair. Her skin was of fair complexion and she had rosy lips with little dent on each cheek. Sofya was sure the dimples formed there whenever she smiled. Sleeping like that made her look like an angel who had descended straight from heaven.
‘ Who is she? ‘ Sofya wondered, her mind blank.
