My One And Only - Chapter 59 Protecting Her From The Shadows
After waiting for a few minutes to receive new orders, the man continued to watch the two friends bickering, the walls of the hospital filled with their laughing voices. The man looked handsome with his blue piercing eyes and black ruffled hair while the woman with him was pretty, no beautiful would be a suitable word for her. It seemed like a goddess had descended from heaven. Her flawless skin with no makeup and black shaped oval eyes made his hormones turn on just by looking at her. He couldn’t imagine what she tasted like in bed. And he was sure he would never find out, thanks to his boss.
The mobile phone in his hand vibrated as he received a message from his boss.
‘ Mission terminated. ‘
The man sighed inwardly as he already knew what his boss was going to order. This woman, Sofya Khemka had always been an infatuation to him. He could not understand why he was so delicate towards her, always protecting her from the shadows. Nevertheless, he retreated his steps and he came out of the hospital. His job was to follow orders and not question them. Silently getting into the car he drove away.
——————-
Five days after the incident..
Their wedding date was drawing even closer with only two days left to go. During these days Arnav had not once contacted her. Sofya supposed he was busy taking care of his sister which was why he must have had no spare time on his hands. She had taken upon herself full responsibility of the wedding, finishing everything from A to Z with the help of Murat, Susan, Advay, Grandpa and Uncle.
Mr. Raizada was very angry and livid with Arnav for behaving this way, recklessly as he liked to call it. Arnav had not once come home from the day when the accident happened, which as Sofya had patiently explained to the elders and his brother, was due to excessive workload at the company. Truthfully, she herself did not know where he was but she was sure that he was with his sister.
She could not tell about her to anybody as Murat had pointed it out that the Raizada family did not know about her to begin with. This made Sofya more sure of the fact that she must be his adopted sister, which he had kept hidden from his family. She wanted to talk to him, and know that he was okay but Murat had refrained her.
” Don’t. He will call you when he’s ready. ” he had simply said while scratching off the cheque for making payment to the caterers.
One thing which had surprised Sofya much during these days was how much Murat seemed to know about Arnav. According to Murat they had known each other for only four years but she knew he was lying. Her heart was not ready to accept it. The way he described Arnav’s actions, his routines, his behaviour and above all his emotions was not, simply could not be the result of four years long friendship. Arnav was the type of man who would never open to just anybody. It took him a great deal of time to trust somebody and he was picky about people, the same way that she was. Yet, Murat never lied to her. So why was this time? What was he hiding?
This had prompted her to order Sawyer to have a look into their past, how they had met each other. She was entirely sure that it was not purely for business purpose. She hated checking upon his best friend but this time he did not leave her with any choice.
It was eight o clock in the evening when the door of Thornfield Mansion opened and Arnav trudged in looking tired. His hair was a complete mess and there were black bags under his eyes. It looked as if he had not slept for many days. The butler took a surprised look at the disheveled master. Recovering quickly, he took over his bags and asked him ” How was your trip, master? ”
Arnav looked in confusion at the butler. What trip was he talking about?
Sensing the confusion in his eyes, the butler clarified as he spoke ” Your business trip. Miss Khemka had informed us that you had an important matter to deal with at the company, that’s why you couldn’t come home. ”
And then it struck Arnav. He had been so busy these few days that he had not contacted her, nor given any explanation about Cynthia. Even she had not troubled him by asking anything. This was the thing which he admired about her : patience.
” Sofya. ” he mumbled as he thought about her.
The butler heard it and responded ” Miss Khemka is resting in the guest room. She and young master had been planning about the wedding all day long. They were tired out. ”
Arnav felt rather guilty as he thought about his upcoming nuptials. He really deserved a smack on the face for ignoring all this. He wouldn’t stop Sofya even if she wanted to punish him.
Without further ado, he walked towards the guest room and opened the door. Sofya was lying comfortably on the couch, her legs curled up to her chest, sleeping.
