My Outside Expression Is Different From My Inner Expression - Chapter 9.1
Yanjing University.
Qiao Huanming arrived at the east entrance of Yan University fifteen minutes early.
He couldn’t help but pace back and forth to one side, filled with uncontrollable excitement and apprehension — afraid he wouldn’t succeed in convincing Li Qingzhou…..
As the appointed time approached, Li Qingzhou and Fang Xiyan arrived.
Qiao Huanming greeted them hurriedly and said, “Mr. Li, Mr. Fang, are we going to the computer department at Yan University?”
Li Qingzhou nodded, “Yes, I have already contacted Professor Yan and he has promised to lend us a lab.”
“When the time comes ……”
Before the words were out of his mouth, Qiao Huanming said with surprise, “Professor Yan? Is it Professor Yan Lixian?!”
The three of them were heading inside Yan University, so because of Qiao Huanming’s sudden increase in volume, some students passing by on the road looked at them curiously.
In particular, their eyes that fell on Li Qingzhou flashed with either pity or amazement as they looked at the wheelchair…..
Li Qingzhou said lightly, “Professor Yan Lixian was my teacher in my university days, and he mainly researches AI artificial intelligence programming, etc.”
“This time back at Yan University, I also have something I would like the professor to help with.”
“Mr. Qiao knows my teacher?”
Qiao Huanming said, “I have met Professor Yan.”
“Professor Yan once went to a symposium on artificial intelligence run by B University and gave a talk on an academic paper he had published. It was a great talk.”
B University was a prestigious university on a par with Yan University, so the two schools had always had mutual exchange activities.
“Moreover Professor Yan and my teacher, Professor Li Yongkuan have the same research direction for AI programming.”
“The two are in regular contact and discuss with each other…. I have also had the pleasure of speaking with Professor Yan a few times. “
“I had no idea that Mr Li was Professor Yan’s student.”
Qiao Huanming couldn’t help but feel a bit emotional — no wonder at the Lan Yuan Clubhouse, Mr. Li seemed to understand all his research materials.
Li Qingzhou said, “I’m afraid that students like me are the most difficult for teachers to deal with.”
They had now entered the laboratory building of the computer science department, but before Qiao Huanming could ask what he meant with a puzzled expression on his face, a student in a white lab coat approached them quickly.
“Senior brother Li, it’s been a long time. The professor told me to wait for you here.”
“It’s been a long time, Student Zhou.”
Li Qingzhou searched his memory for an impression of this man — someone with whom he had once helped out in the artificial intelligence research lab set up by Professor Yan.
But there hadn’t been much communication between them, so he wasn’t really familiar with him.
“Senior brother Li still remembers me.”
Zhou Nan scratched his hair and laughed, “I was just wondering how come professor came to the lab building so early today. It turns out that Senior brother Li is back at Yan University.”
“Right, these two are ……”
Qiao Huanming and Fang Xiyan introduced themselves briefly.
Soon, the trio were led by Zhou Nan to the outside of a laboratory, knocked on the door, and entered.
There were a few students in work clothes busy in the lab, so when they heard the noise, they looked up.
Some clearly recognized Li Qingzhou.
Immediately, the faces of some of the students changed — slightly sullen and repulsed.
They didn’t seem to welcome Li Qingzhou’s arrival.
For a moment, there was a silence in the otherwise busy laboratory.
Zhou Nan seemed to sense the subtlety of the atmosphere and the question ‘Why isn’t the professor here?’ that was about to come out of his mouth was swallowed.
“What are you doing back here?” One of them frowned, asking in a slightly unpleasant tone.
They couldn’t be blamed for being a little harsh on Li Qingzhou.
Zhou Nan had joined the lab later.
Usually, he only helped out with minor things and was mostly in class, so he probably didn’t know much about what was going on.
–’Li Qingzhou’ was bright, and had excellent grades in university, so he skipped straight to his senior year and was then taught by Professor Yan to study and practice.
Professor Yan later set up a laboratory dedicated to researching applications in various areas of artificial intelligence.
All the students he took with him were in it.
Among them, naturally, was ‘Li Qingzhou’.
As well as the contemporaries in front of him who didn’t welcome him –by now, they were probably all graduate or doctoral students.
The laboratory had just been in its early stages of establishment and so had been faced with difficulty in all respects.
For example, there was a shortage of staff, a shortage of laboratory equipment, etc.
The most difficult time was when the lab was almost closed down due to lack of funding.
But ‘Li Qingzhou’ had to leave the lab in the early days of its existence.
He was clearly Professor Yan’s most valued and admired student.
So, some people tried to persuade him to stay.
However ‘Li Qingzhou’ was aloof and uncommunicative.
He was a distant fellow student in the lab and had no friends, so he wouldn’t listen to their persuasive words.
Although, Professor Yan gave his permission for ‘Li Qingzhou’ to leave in the end,
That didn’t stop some people from being unkind to Li Qingzhou when they saw him again…. and even pointed out unceremoniously that he shouldn’t return.
