My Queen The King - Chapter 5 An Old Tale
As soon as Yuli was out of sight, everyone starts bombarding Wei Ming with questions.
“Wei! Who was she?”
“Is she your ex that came looking for revenge?”
“Stupid! Didn’t you see how lovely dovey they were? I bet she’s his secret wife!”
Everyone starts throwing out their own conspiracies, which eventually turned into a friendly competition to see who can spin the most ridiculous tale.
“Wei Ming, I need to speak to you.” Mr. President looks seriously at Wei Ming and motions for him to take the elevator with him. Following him, Wei Ming pushes through the crowd of people that was still chattering excitingly about what would be the hottest topic for a long time.
Getting into the elevator, Mr. President punches the button for the 64th floor. Other than the slight noise of the elevator rising, the elevator was deadly silent.
Wei Ming stares at the earring that Yuli had given him. The earring was made of delicate silk strands that is bunched together with a silver band. The threads of silk are a light purple that shine as it reflects the light. But there was something else about the earring that captivates him other than its beauty.
Clearing his throat Mr.President spoke “Do you know that girl?”
Still studying the earring Wei Ming shook his head no.
“When the world first fell, it was an absolute nightmare.” Mr.President said with a faraway look in his eyes. “It was a massacre, not even children were spared. Fifty years now. Almost a lifetime, but still not enough time to forget.”
Wei Ming glance at Mr.Presidents face. “D…did you lose anyone important?”
Mr.President slaps Wei Ming’s back and starts to laugh. “I was fortunate enough to be living in Delta city when it happened. My parents were already gone so I didn’t really have anyone to worry about. Maybe that is a fortune in itself. I’ve seen the faces of people mourning their loved ones. The lucky ones made it to Delta city, while others died or changed. Wei Ming, don’t you ever wonder why the mutated can’t enter Delta city?”
Wei Ming have thought about this before but never thought about it to hard. After all he knows how lucky he is to be born inside of Delta city.
“Because…” Mr.President lean towards him and whispers “We’re living on a ticking bomb.”
Hearing this Wei Ming freezes. “A bomb?”
The elevator came to a stop and the door opens.
“Follow me to my office. This old man is tired and the story is long.”
After settling onto his armchair, Mr.President starts to talk. “As you know the mutated can’t enter Delta city. That include plants and animals. But most people don’t know why. Like I said earlier today, a hero, a brave young man saved this city.”
Wei Ming thought about this for a moment and scrunches his eyebrow. “How can a single person prevent the destruction of a entire city? That’s not possible!”
“If he was an ordinary human, then of course there’s no way it’s possible.”
Something clicks in Wei Ming’s brain after Mr.President said that.
“You can’t mean that… the man was a mutant?”
Solemnly Mr.President answered “Not quite. He was something even more fearful and powerful. I saw it with my own two eyes when he saved this city.” Mr.President’s voice carried a hint of reverence with what he said next.
” No, he was a dragon, with scales of the most brilliant purple.”
