My Sister Picked up the Male Lead - Chapter 27
As the day was coming to an end, I stopped and stared at him. The grip I had on his hand was drained of strength.
“The moment you grabbed me under the sun, I became the me that only appears at night.”
My body slowly retreated from him. But my back soon met a tree and he was still holding on to my arm. I was trapped. He slowly brought the ends of my fingertips to his lips.
“I feel like if I let go of this hand, you’re going to leave me.”
He looked at me with clear eyes that looked as if it could dissipate fogs.
“… I’m not leaving. W-where can I even go?”
I turned my head to avoid him, but I couldn’t ignore his gaze. So, I met his cool yet persistent gaze.
“Is that so? Then make a vow with me.”
“…”
“Vow that you will not leave me.”*
*T/N: His exact words were ‘Vow that you will not go anywhere’ but that ain’t romantic so I’m changing it to this HAHA.
I’m literally speechless. A vow? For a moment, various thoughts passed in my head, but he couldn’t be referring to any of those. What right did he have to ask for a vow?
Now he may be holding me tightly while looking at me sweetly, but once he meets the female lead he will become the male lead that falls in love with her.2
As I continued being held by him, I strode forward and hugged his waist. I could feel him flinch before stiffening. The flesh I felt against my cheeks was hot.
T/N: kyaa~~~~1
“I only hope that… Knox is happy.”
I know my voice will be muffled like this, but I continued to bury my face into his chest.4
“You said that you were curious about my real feelings, but all I wish for you is happiness… And I only hope that you can become extremely happy.”
I hesitated and didn’t manage to say what I wanted to in the end. When I think about the benefits, he’ll get from ending up with the female lead I couldn’t intervene. I was satisfied just being the existence that can cause light jealousy between the two.
“I-I am really wishing that you can become happy.”
Since I knew how pitiful the male lead’s life has been, I truly wanted him to be happy. He deserved to be free from this curse that has placed him in shackles for a long time. A very long time.
“Promise me you won’t leave.”
I kept my mouth shut, enduring my desire to look at him.
“I’ll promise if you manage to return safely.”
“Really?”
“Yes. So, don’t get hurt and come back safely.”
Knox squeezed my arm.
“You promised.”
He still held my waist with his other arm to prevent me from getting hurt.
“Then no matter what you say from now on, I won’t let you go.”3
He whispered that he’ll be back by dawn.
Thinking that this might be the last time I’d ever get to see him, I nervously swallowed and nodded as I continued hugging him.
“I’ll be back.”
Only when his arm fell off my waist did I look up. He lowered his head in a flash. In just a moment, he came closer to my lips. I flinched at the distance he created where I could feel his very breath. He parted his lips.
“Do I need to ask for permission, even if I want our lips to touch?”2
I felt breathless. I managed to move my mouth despite this distance.
“… If I give it to you, will you do it?”
“I want to.”
In his low husky voice, he murmured.
“I want to do everything with you Amy.”3
T/N: I’m crying the ship’s finally sailing.
Is it because we are in the forest now that I was feeling more proactive than usual? My lips trembled. When I didn’t tell him whether he could or not, he raised his head before lowering it again to lean against me.
With every breath he takes, I could feel his lips graze my nape. He pressed his lips down hard before lifting it off. He whispered, “I’ll hear it later then.”1
When I came to my senses, I saw Knox from afar. I stared at him blankly until I couldn’t see his silhouette anymore. I let go of the breath I had been holding. Staggering backwards, I leaned against the tree* as I covered my lips with the back of my hand.
*T/N: The raws didn’t explicitly say tree, it just said that she leant back so I assumed that she was leaning on a tree.1
‘… What a relief that it just passed. I really thought our lips would touch.’3
I closed my lips shut. What was he trying to do while acting like a gangster with that sweaty face of his? I almost gave in.
Thinking about him, I swept my chest down. Why is my heart beating so fast?1
I shook my head. Now is not the time to think about the mysterious throbbing of my heart.
I had to focus on finding out my sister’s whereabouts in the forest and Knox who went to save her. I had no idea what was going to happen now.
Time passed without a hitch. Nights in the forest were long, but it felt even longer today.
Boom. Boom.
I perked up at the sounds of explosions in the forest. Eventually, I moved before daylight found me.
‘… I have to go back to the house.’1
Knox hasn’t come back. Thinking that there might have been a problem, I pushed myself off my feet. Fortunately, the path wasn’t too dark.1
I got rid of my worries of monsters that lived all over the forest by extracting the juice of the Chakov leaves. The Chakov leaf extract could temporarily ward off monsters because they hated its scent.
I turned my head immediately whenever I saw the grass move nearby. This made the journey to my house longer than usual.
‘Quickly. I need to get there quickly.’1
Pass the Night Forest, I could see the roof of the house from a distance. As I tried to approach the fence, I froze when I saw someone in a distance.
“Urgh…”
A person? It was definitely a person’s voice. I carefully hid myself behind a tree before looking around. It was not long before I noticed a man collapsed between the trees.
I looked at him suspiciously.
‘He’s not wearing a black hood, is he?’
As I tried to see whether he was donning a red medal, I saw his sword. I flinched. I noticed the symbol of the Grand Duke’s knights, a gray wolf, on his sword.
“Excuse me, are you alright?”
Fortunately, it wasn’t Gray.
“Urgh. Who…”
Next to him, there were many men donning black capes who have collapsed on the ground. As I took a glance, I noticed that they were all the Crown Prince’s knights.
This was my first time ever seeing him but I noticed his blood-soaked brown hair. Did he hurt his head? Not only his head but the rest of his body did not look to be in good condition too.
“Are you alright? Knox. Knox. No. How’s the Grand Duke?”
“The Commander… went to deal with them…”
The man looked delirious while staring at me and muttering. From what I could understand from him, Knox was in the forest fighting against a lot of people.
‘Should I just go back home like this? Where’s Diana?’
I got up before squatting again and grabbing the man’s arm. His eyes looked at me without focus.
“I’ll take simple measures for now.”
Using the piece of cloth I ripped from the bottom of my dress, I bandaged his abdomen. I held his hand and opened his mouth. There may have been a lot of medicinal herbs at home, but if I wanted to treat him, I still lacked a lot of ingredients.
“I’m sorry. All I can do is to stop the bleeding. Look, I have herbs in my house…”
As I was talking, a white light burst out from the back of my hand.1
As the strange pattern started forming on the back of my hand, at the same time, the man in front of me was doused in the white light. The blood was the most concentrated near his abdomen where he received his biggest wound.
Bringing my hand to his wound, my eyes widened.
I can heal people?
I thought of the time when Knox collapsed. I knew that I was behind it. But… Can I really heal people? Then why didn’t it work before? Does it only work for serious injuries?
Now that I looked at it closer, only the wound on the man’s abdomen had been healed. His wound on his cheek as well as his arm that was holding his broken sword, remained the same.
“… Who on earth are you…”
I stood up straight before stepping back.
“I-I’ll bring people!”
What surprised the man surprised me as well. So, I couldn’t reply to him. My eyes were glued onto the back of my hand but I quickly turned my head.
As I tried to take a step forward, my vision started shaking as if I had anaemia. But I quickly took off.
“Heok. Heok heok. Heok…” (sfx for panting)1
My heart felt like it was going to burst as sweat started dripping from the tip of my chin. Arriving in front of my house, I panted heavily before raising my head.
My legs were trembling from the non-stop running, but I didn’t care as I entered the garden.
“Diana!”
Quickly, I ran ahead and shook my sister’s shoulders.
“Diana? Diana?”
Fortunately, my sister was still breathing. But in the middle of the front yard where a fierce fight must have taken place, my sister had collapsed. She wouldn’t open her eyes as if she had fainted.1
When I noticed the broken sword lying next to my sister, I broke into tears. I was relieved.
“Diana. Diana… Get up.”
I hurriedly checked my sister’s condition as I tore a piece of cloth to stop the bleeding. Fortunately, the bleeding quickly stopped. Tears continued to roll down my cheek.
‘She wasn’t dead yet. What a relief.’1
But, maybe because it had been a while since she had been bleeding, but my sister’s breaths were very weak. Instinctively recognising that my sister was in a bad condition, I quickly grabbed her hands.
Just like that, I closed my eyes until I heard a rustling sound. I immediately turned my head towards it.
“… Miss Amy?”
“Gray?”
Gray limped over. Although he wasn’t in good shape, my eyes widened when I recognised the person he was supporting.
“Knox?”
“Ah. The Commander… is still alive.”
He smiled bitterly and muttered. Still.
“… Still?”
What did he mean?
I let go of my sister’s hand and opened my mouth. In the meantime, Gray limped over and laid Knox down next to my sister.
“He alone destroyed 70% of the Imperial Knights in the forest. He wouldn’t listen to me.”
I swallowed my breath as soon as I saw Knox. He looked to be in an even worse condition that the knight I had just treated.
“…”
“I’ve never seen the Commander go so crazy.”
Gray, who glanced at my sister, gave a bitter smile.
“It was the Commander who rescued your sister from numerous Imperial Knights.”1
“Knox… saved my sister?”
“… Yes. He said that she had to be saved no matter what.”
Gray then went on to say that Diana was a very good fighter and that he was amazed. But he didn’t really sound amazed.
“The Commander is really…”
His eyes that were losing focus was indicating that he was at his wit’s ends. I let go of my sister’s hands and held on to Gray.
“Is Knox in really bad shape?”
Gray who looked miserable bit his lips.
“After having me and the other knights rescue the collapsed Diana, he faced countless other Imperial Knights alone.”
He eventually covered his face.
“A little earlier, when he tried to save your sister… the Commander must have been risking his life for her.”
Tears that he had been holding back were now falling. His tears fell in streams and dropped onto Knox’s face.
“Don’t cry”, I said to Gray who looked like he was at a loss for what to do.
“I-I’m not an expert but I learnt herbal medicine. It’ll be… dangerous to leave Knox like this, right?”
“… Yes. But it might be possible to help him if we bring him back to the Dukedom to see a Sorceress*. If he could use healing magic, if only we had magic…”
T/N: Imma change magicians to sorcerer/sorceress now. Magicians sound a little tacky and mage do not have gender specific versions.
He clenched the hand that I had been grabbing.
“Is there any way back?”
As he stared at his clenched fists, he nodded slowly.
“… Every Lux Knight is given two teleportation beads. They can only be used by Lux Knights and it can be used to teleport to either the Grand Duke’s mansion or a nearby city in a case of emergency. But…”
Looking at the beads he showed me, my mouth widened. That’s…
He raised his head. Gray, whose eyes drooped down like a dog that had lost its owner, looked straight ahead. Even if I hadn’t seen his trembling hands, I understood his feelings.
“The Commander will not be able to withstand the magic in that condition.”
Gray may be stuttering, but he managed to convey the severity of the situation. Knox was in danger.
After looking at his trembling hands for a while, I turned my head towards my sister.
I could feel my sister breathing weakly, but evenly. Opening my eyes that I had been closing for a while, I lied to Gray.
“Sir Gray. I’m really sorry but at this moment… I think my sister’s in a very dangerous condition.”
Just like Knox. When I spoke in a tearful voice, he raised his head and his face was just like mine.*
*T/N: She meant to say that they were both crying.
“My apologies. It’s because of us that Miss Amy and Miss Diana have been caught up in all this… I’m really sorry.”
“… If I help Knox, can you help me?”
“Yes?”
“I’m asking if I know a way to help Knox, will you help me and my sister, Sir Gray?”
His eyes seemed to bore into mine, as if they were looking for any hidden intentions. Knowing that I was being sincere, Gray seriously nodded even with tears in his eyes.
“I swear on my name as a Knight, I will do anything.”
“… Good.”
I smiled while I was crying and turned my head towards Knox. I slowly grabbed his hand. As soon as I saw his badly hurt hands, my tears fell.
Just then. His fingers flinched, quickly moving to grab mine.
“… Amy.”
“Knox? Are you coming to? Do you see me?”
I could hear Gray shouting “Commander!” next to me.
But his purples eyes stared only at me. His hands tightly grabbed mine.
“… I kept your promise.”
“…”
Tears welled up in my eyes. The tears I had been desperately holding back trickled down my cheek. I couldn’t resist.
“There were so many people looking for you. Have you met them?”
“They don’t matter. Amy, I kept my promise.”1
“Yes. Thank you. That’s why I’m going to treat you. Now.”
“What I need is not treatment.”
He pulled me towards him. I wondered how his injured body could muster such strength. I looked straight at his face below me. His other hand grabbed my waist.1
“No. What you need is treatment.”
I said more firmly than ever. I lowered my head, trying not to cry again.
“Your Highness*. Let us go back to where you need to go.”
*T/N: It used to be Your Grace at first but I changed it to ‘Your Highness’ since I realised that he had royal blood lel.
I was only thinking about my sister’s survival. Actually, after making sure my sister was alive, all I thought about was going far, far away.
I never planned on thinking about him after I left. At this moment, I have no idea why I regret thinking like that.
His words telling me not to leave may have sounded gruesome and scary in hindsight, but I was only rendered speechless.
“You always avoid me.”
Whether you thought of me as your first love, your family, or you were just blindly following me like a lost beast that had been picked up…
“I won’t feel disappointed even if you leave.”
I warmly told him. It hurt my heart thinking that my words could add another wound to the many scars in his heart*.
*T/N: Direct TL is ‘add another wound to the man who had already suffered so many hardships’ but it’s a little more poetic this way lel.
“You and I are only fated to pass each other by. You are not an important person to me. Do you understand?”1
My tears fell.
His eyes that had been slowly scanning mine stopped at my face. Even though he was badly injured, he stared at me with such clear eyes.
“… You’re lying. Tell me you’re lying. Tell me, Amy.”
T/N: I’m not crying, you are.
The hand that was holding my own went to hold my head. His eyes that seemed to be devouring me whole were right in front of my nose.
“You’re bloody. Did you get hurt somewhere?”
“This is not my blood. It’s yours… Eup (sfx for //030//)”
I widened my eyes. The lips that crashed into mine, bit onto my lower lip. I stared at him in surprised.2
“Rey…”
“It’s not Reynok. It’s Knox.”
T/N: *bawling at the corner of my room*
One of my hands was on his waist while the other one was propping me up against his chest. Without any strength left, I collapsed against his chest. His lips parted and I entered his mouth*.2
*T/N: Okay it sounds strange but basically there’s tongue now olala1
At some point, I started holding his shoulders for support. I could barely breath and support myself at the same time.
I let out a moan, which didn’t sound like me at all, giving rise to goose bumps all over my body. During the short periods when we separated, I could feel his hot breaths.2
“Don’t let me go.”4
4
His body was hot.
“What else can be more important?”
The man who was holding onto me looked like he was about to cry and it reminded me of the Knox in the day. His grip on my hands was actually not that strong. I could easily shake it off.
“There’s nothing more important to me than you calling my name. Amy. Please don’t abandon me.”
His eyes that were looking at me slowly sank. I looked at him and held his hands.
“… I can’t live without you.”1
T/N:
