The movie will be a youth comedy film. As the main actress, Yan Yuan will be playing the female e-sports player chasing after her dream. This role was molded from a realistic example, so it garnered a lot of attention when the official announcement was dropped.
Han Shi Yu made a cameo appearance as the high school principal in one of the flashback scenes. He really did not look like a principal at all, but since he was added in for comic relief, the unrealistic part was overlooked.
Just in time for summer vacation where junior and high schools were now empty, the production team found a school to use for filming. They finished off the scene with their boss first before starting anything else. Yang Han picked a higher position within the audience seats, resting her cheeks on her hand as she watched the staffs come and go busily. The female staff who had to apply make up for Han Shi Yu – her hands were trembling a little. Han Shi Yu felt the slight tremor and smiled, “Relax.”
The female staff stabled her hold on the eyebrow pencil and smiled back, “President Han, you maintained your looks really well.”
Regardless of who it was, if they lived according to Yang Mo’s healthy and disciplined daily routine for decades, then anyone would look like they are glowing too.
Han Shi Yu laughed, “I don’t have a choice, I’m just born with it.”
The female staff laughed along with him. It appeared that she had been working with the company for quite awhile now so she was a veteran gossiper. After chatting for a few sentences, she naturally cut into the topic, “Your other half sure has a great eye.”
“Sigh,” Han Shi Yu joked, “He’s like a fairy who doesn’t live by the ways of the world. To win him over, I have to live like one too.”
The female staff let out a laugh.
Yang Han watched them from afar but couldn’t hear what they were saying. She started tapping her fingers slowly on her cheek.
Yang Mo’s study trip was supposed to end by now and he would return with his team. But Yang Mo wanted to stay there longer for personal reasons. When Yang Han heard that, she hugged the tablet screen tightly and so desperately wished she could pull Yang Mo out of there. She said disappointedly, “How much longer will it take.”
The Yang Mo in the tablet screen shook his head. Before the end of Yang Han’s summer vacation, it still wasn’t sure if they could meet. With that said, Yang Han’s summer vacation now felt flat and uninteresting.
Between sighs, Yan Yuan walked over to her, patted the top of her head and asked, “What are you thinking about?”
Yang Han pouted for a while before saying, “Why do we have to grow up.”
Yan Yuan: “Hmm?”
“When we’re grown up, we have to go to work, go on business trips. On top of that, we have to watch all the people around us come and go.” Yang Han said, “So troublesome.”
Yan Yuan didn’t know whether to cry or laugh, “You’re thinking about your future already so soon?”
“I don’t want dad to go on work trips and I also don’t want Old Han to always be away from home.” Yang Han lowered her head and said, “In the future too…I don’t want to leave either of them.”
Yan Yuan looked in her direction and spotted Han Shi Yu. “It’ll have to happen one day.”
She seemed to have remembered some precious memories as she said, “In the past, my dad had to drive long distances for work and I hated seeing him leave. So he would always sneak out while I was still sleeping or when my mom ‘tricked’ me into buying snacks outside.’
“I was really mad at that time. I could even cry the whole night,” Yan Yuan smiled, “But now that I’m older, I don’t see parting as such a bad thing anymore.”
She turned around and said to Yang Han, “It’s actually a good thing that you have such a mindset at this age. The most precious thing in this generation is the sentiment of missing someone. Many adults have digitalized their emotions into data.”
Yang Han turned to quietly look at her.
“I’ll stop here for now,” She said, “It’s about to start soon.”
Yang Han watched her walk down the stairsteps and was just about to stand up herself when a hand held her down on each side of her shoulders. She turned around in confusion only to find Lu Yue Ming and Xu Jia, who sat down beside her.
Yang Han said in surprise, “Why are you two here!”
Xu Jia unfolded the banner in her hands and said, “Came to support Mu Mu.”
Lu Yue Ming smiled bitterly, “I was dragged over by her.”
While the two of them were wandering outside, they happened to run into Liu Mu. He lent them two work access passes that allowed them to enter. Xu Jia obviously had experienced a surge in blood pressure. The excitement on her face has yet to dissipate as she raised the banner in her hands and said, “Eldest princess! How could you not tell me…and Xiao Lu too…that you two know Mu Liu Su!”
Xu Jia expressed her joy incoherently with gestures as she showed them new photos of him in her phone.
Lu Yue Ming awkwardly rubbed the tip of his nose.
He found Han Shi Yu’s figure in the crowd and asked Yang Han, “Is uncle also participating in the filming?”
Yang Han: “En.”
“Huh?” Xu Jia said curiously, “Uncle Han knows how to act?”
“He’s very talented and versatile after all,” Yang Han tilted her head in thought and said, “Old Han used to say, when he had to win dad over, there was nothing he couldn’t do.”
“The basics of programming, how to make delicious barbeque that wasn’t spicy, how to climb up to the fourth floor in the shortest time while ensuring the takeout wouldn’t spill, how to use pretty words to make him happy…” Yang Han listed them off her fingers, “Although I think the pretty words part was made up by him.”
Xu Jia instantly found the essence of what she said, “Mmh, that definitely gave me diabetes.”
When Yang Mo was in the fourth year of university, he was extremely obsessed with programming.
Although he wasn’t majoring in that subject, his talent was so outstanding that he became a force to be reckoned after he officially properly studied it. At that time, the university team that he joined had already won many competition awards. As for himself, he had won individual awards from Microsoft and for finding a bug from Apple iOS. At this point, job opportunities would come to him uninvited the second he get his graduation certification from Shou Cheng University.
During his second year in university, Yang Mo pretty much lived with competitions as his only company. In every single competition, there were only computers present followed by a silent audience. Nothing interesting to watch.
But Han Shi Yu would still accompany him to every competition. He waited outside just like a parent who waited upon their child who went in for university entrance examinations. He appeared even more nervous than Yang Mo, eagerly asking him about the results whenever he was done.
Yang Mo would accept the water bottle, unscrew it and take a sip before answering indifferently, “First.”
Whenever Yang Mo took the lead, their team would usually solve the most questions given, naturally winning the gold medal.
In order to let Yang Mo look good, Han Shi Yu would generously treat all the team members to a meal, then be inexplicably happy for the entire day.
Before the two of them met, Yang Mo did participate in these competitions too. However, the joy after winning were always very short-lived. There wasn’t anything more than getting a casual compliment from his roommate when he walked back from the dining hall to the dorm room.
Yang Mo’s excellence was already something common to them. Celebrating it on a large scale with gongs and drums would be weirder.
But after meeting Han Shi Yu, he gained the company of someone who would always go the extra mile without a single complaint just to celebrate for him with gongs and drums. His victories always hung on Han Shi Yu’s lips like his biggest pride. He never got sick of it no matter times that happened.
Every time he sees this guy being happier than he himself is, Yang Mo could never stop himself from smiling. Taking a sip of water was just to hide the corners of his mouths as he pretends to be calm and say, “What are you so happy for. It’s not a big deal.”
Yang Mo thought that Han Shi Yu was still a child.
Therefore, he would intentionally try to help Han Shi Yu solve his problems. He felt that Han Shi Yu who was far too innocent, looked just like a stupid, fattened lamb in the eyes of the crooks. Yang Mo was very possessive. No matter how fattened up this lamb was, the only one who could slaughter it was himself. Others were not allowed to touch even one hair on him.
Which was why even after graduation, Yang Mo still carried a lot of worries.
If he were to leave the country, away from Han Shi Yu for two years, would this guy even be able to survive?
But clearly, Yang Mo’s overly thought out worries were unfounded and unneeded. After all, Han Shi Yu had survived 20 years on his own thanks to his sheer tenacity.
As the youthful song ended and the shutters flashed away, the scene of all the graduation caps being thrown into air coupled with thousands of strange expressions was forever printed on the films, becoming a knot that connected their memories as they go separate ways.
Yang Mo walked out on his own amidst the laughter and parting words.
“I’ve been under your care for three years,” Lu You Qi said as he rested an arm on his shoulder, laughing, “Mo, congratulations on graduating.”
Yang Mo said, “Thanks.”
Lu You Qi dropped out of graduate school and will be returning to his second hometown in England to further his education. He felt very unwilling to separate with Yang Mo, because after all, such a caring roommate was too difficult to find.
Lu You Qi asked if he could take him back to England as a package.
Yang Mo said he could break his legs and make him stay in China forever.
Lu You Qi raised his eyebrows and said, “Roommate, you haven’t beaten me up for three days now.”
It was already time for them to graduate, so Yang Mo decided to grant his wish.
After talking about their futures for a while, Lu You Qi smiled and asked, “Your little junior didn’t show up?”
“He has something to tend to today,” Yang Mo said.
“Hoh, I suppose he’s feeling sad.” Lu You Qi laughed, “He won’t have a senior to cling to anymore from now on.”
Yang Mo was silent.
The period of time before graduation, Han Shi Yu became unusually clingy with him. But the closer they got to the real thing, the more he knew how to restrain himself.
If he were to stick to closely to him, it would only cause the loneliness to feel much, much worse when they really have to separate. Yang Mo understood that logic.
The sentiment on separating was mutual, but Yang Mo’s sensitivity towards it was considerably lower. He didn’t know how to go about comforting others. Yang Mo looked down at the steps beneath his feet and after a moment of silence, he said, “I’ll go look for him.”
T/N: Sorry for the slower/shorter updates lately, but I’ve gotten really swamped and barely have enough time to translate. I’ll still try to update as much as I can. For this week, it’ll be half the chapter since it’s also longer than usual. Thanks for understanding~
