My Way To You - Chapter 365
Some robed people started to collect the bodies and took them away from the scene. While the ones with their hoods down surrounded the black, bubbling sand that pooled into the street. Seven different coloured magic circles were shining in front of them as the held their hands up.
The black sand bubbled higher balled before it formed a head. It had giant, sunken eyes and a massive slit across its face as a make shift mouth. It looked around then opened its mouth wide. A horrible scream resonated from deep within the head. The sound was awful but the robed people looked calm.
The creature calmed down then scanned the area. It stopped and smiled as a spiked tentacle rose upwards. Ariana trembled as her eyes became glued to the creature. Cayden sensed something wrong and looked back. “Sh*t.” Cayden cursed under his breath and then picked up his pace. The small alley way just 20 feet ahead of them, he brought Ariana closer to his body and ran.
The spiked tentacle shot forward and collided into the magical barrier the seven people made. The sand face creature was not happy, his attack was stopped. The robed people continued their chant incasing the creature while the creature produced more spiked tentacles and started to violently attack the magical barrier.
Cayden started to sweat as he ran, they were only 10 feet away. The sand face creature stopped attacking and opened it’s mouth instead. A blood curdling scream echoed around it. Cayden stumbled and slid across the ground, holding Ariana protectively in his arms. One of the seven robe people dropped to one knee, clutching the middle of his chest as he fell. “You idiot get back up!” An older man yelled as he looked at the fallen man but his words were drowned out by the creature’s screams.
Ariana pushed herself from Cayden and looked at the creature. “What are you doing?!” Cayden shouted as he caught sight of her eyes, they had gone hollow and void of all light. Cayden panicked and pulled her closer but Ariana fought against his embrace. “He needs me.” Ariana said with an expressionless voice.
“What?!” Cayden shouted but he winced. The longer that creature screamed the worse his head felt. It felt like his head was being split apart but he fought through the pain to keep Ariana close. Suddenly the creature stopped screaming and Ariana went limp. “Ariana?” Cayden panted. He hadn’t realized he broke out into a cold sweat and his hands woudn’t stop trembling. “Quickly get up!” Someone shouted but then the creature strated to scream in a higher pitch.
The man that had fallen started to violently vomit up blood. More people dropped to one knee as they paled. They started to hold their own chests and the only one left standing was the old man. Ariana’s eyes shot wide open and she started to scream along with the creature. Cayden’s body pulsed, unbearable pain coursed through his veins as his body heated up. He felt like he was being burned alive. Cayden lost his grip and Ariana threw her head back, screaming as her body slowly rose into the air.
Cayden desperately grabbed Ariana’s hand as she rose. “S-s-save h-er.” Cayden hissed as drool started to spill from his mouth. His body was barely listening to him and it seem to be involuntarily curling on it’s own. Cayden gritted his teeth as pain drowned him.
Cayden didn’t hear a response. Suddenly the seven people in the dark purple robes started to scream as the creature lowered its scream by an octave. It gain the upper hand, it’s spiked tentacles broke through the magic barrier and people were starting to get scewered. Cayden was freed but the screaming left him weak. He looked up and saw that the creature using its tentacles to skewer and suck the surrounding people dry.
Caydein tried pulling Ariana back down to the ground but she seemed to suspended in mid air, she had stopped screaming but now she was completely unconscious. Cayden shut his eyes, he willed everything inside him to go to his arm, he felt strength and pulled Ariana downwards. Relief washed over Cayden as he opened his eyes and caught sight of Ariana’s feet touching the ground.
“He wants me… We’re friends… He needs me.” Ariana said in the same emotionless voice. Cayden looked at her face and to his horror Ariana’s light hadn’t come back. It was as if she was a living doll and her master was pulling the strings, trying to get her back. “A-a-ari-ana.” Cayden mummbled, unable to control his own mouth. “He wants me….” Ariana said as she looked at Cayden with her blank eyes. “N-n-n-n-o.” Cayden muttered loudly but his body refused to move a muscle.
“My friend needs me… I want to go…. My friend needs me…. I want to go.” Ariana chanted over and over again as she started to walk forward. Cayden couldn’t do a thing. His eyes rounded in horror as tears started to build up in the corners. “N-n-n-o. N-n-n-ot ag-ain.” He said pitifully as he watched Ariana move away from him and closer towards the creature.
As if it responded to Ariana’s chants the creature called back it’s tentacles and smiled. He stopped screaming all together and combined his tentacles into one massive spiked appendage. Ariana continued walking and a smile spread across her face as she saw the appendage. The spiked appendage shot forward, rushing across the space as it closed in on its target. “***!”
Ariana snapped out of her trance and caught site of the threat. She brought up her arms and shielded her head. “No!” She screamed as a multicoloured bubble surrounded her. The spiked appendage exploded as it collided with her bubble. Arrays of black sand shot out in all directions. The creature looked shock. It’s sand was everywhere and it wasn’t coming back. Ariana’s multicoloured bubble shattered and rainbow coloured light scattered everywhere.
The moment the shattered pieces touched the black sand it turned pearl white then dissolved. The creature yelled in pain, it looked around for more people but everyone was already drained.
Or gone. Then it spotted Cayden. The creature shrunk in size then shot out a tentacle. In a daze Ariana caught sight of the tentacle and looked back. “Cayden!” She screamed as she jumped in the tentacle’s path. “No!” Cayden yelled as he watched her jump.
“Stupid.” A familiar voice echoed through the air.
