My Youth Begins With Loving You - CH 37.1
Chapter 37
Steamed white strips, braised pork ribs, chestnut chicken nuggets, crab yolk, fried squid, hot and sour cucumber, beef with sauce, plus two seasonal vegetables and a large pot of fish head soup. The table was filled with an assortment of dishes.
Chen Mo couldn’t help but wipe his sweat and said, “Uncle all this is more than enough, so please stop and take a rest.”
Miao Jiang kept frying in the kitchen. He was occupied so he laughed heartily and replied “It’s okay, you should eat first. If anything gets finished I can fry again!”
Chen Mo lowered his voice and asked Miao Yuan if he had to finish everything. Miao Yuan rolled her eyes and slyly told him, “It would be nice if you could eat them all…”
Chen Mo’s gaze paused.
Of course, that’s impossible, so…
Miao Yuan just sighed.
Let everyone do what they can!
Chen Mo and Mother Miao couldn’t help but burst into laughter looking at her expression. Finally done, Father Miao came over with a basin of fish soup the size of a washbasin and scanned everyone’s faces in confusion.
What’s so funny?
That bit of humor was only that. A little bit. Because Chen Mo could feel his stomach hurt at the sight laid out on the table.
Growing up, Chen mo seldom suffered from stomachaches or problems relating to over-eating. In the end, he gritted his teeth and vowed in his heart that one day he would bring all the foodies in his original team to the Miao household for a meal, and fully let Miao Daddy feel the Chinese People’s Liberation Combat Army’s power. Of course, this is an old story.
The next two days were weekends. Miao Jiang borrowed a car from a friend, and the family drove to Hangzhou for a visit. The family opened the window to the car and took in the sight of the natural environment of Hangzhou to amuse themselves. But while Miao Yuan’s family is used to the sight of crystal-clear water and the green hills, not finding it surprising or amazing, it was not the case with Chen Mo. He unexpectedly loves Hangzhou. The sweet and pure paradise-like feel of Suzhou and Hangzhou completely grabbed his heart. The hotel room was booked by Miao Jiang, but Chen Mo basically took the initiative in the places where he could pay for the food and drinks. Both, Mother Miao and Father Miao were very satisfied with the conscientious character of this son-in-law of theirs.
Generally speaking, people who like to talk appreciate a chance for some silence and quiet guys actually like talking. Chen Mo roomed together with Miao Jiang for two days, which won him the favor of the elderly. Miao Jiang regarded Chen Mo as his own family more and more. He endlessly went around Haikou boasting about his ‘son’ and became happier thinking about the future ahead.
Miao Jiang even took Chen Mo aside and said, “You don’t worry. In the future, if you have a baby, bring it over and we will take care of it for you. We promise to help the child grow healthy and white. I will take him to exercise with me in the morning and find someone to teach him martial arts. I have a friend. …Hey, that friend I tell you, they’re really amazing!”
But in his heart, he said to himself, ‘Even if I’d like to it doesn’t matter. Your daughter has to like it too!’
Before Chen Mo came over, he received a warning from all sides and was mentally prepared. He heard that in the south, a woman in charge and men were usually hen-pecked. The daughters were spoiled at home and the mothers were very nit-picky with son-in-laws. As he left Cheng Hui patted him on the shoulder and said, “Brother, put up with it and bear it somehow. Not to mention a daughter who has been raised for more than 20 years, even a pig who has been raised for two years cannot be taken away casually from the carer-takers.”
So Chen Mo was nervous for a long time, but found that there was no reason for him to be tense. Mother Miao, called He Yuedi, didn’t say too much. She had a gentle and elegant temperament, but anyone could see that she liked him in her heart, and her speech and manner were very respectful and inviting. Not to mention Miao Jiang. Chen Mo had to admit that his own father had never been so affectionate with him.
After going home for dinner on Sunday night, Chen Mo was lying in the Miao’s guest room and was lost in thought, with a Buddhist sutra loosely open on the left-hand side. Chen Mo thought to himself, this world and this life, ah, is really short term. This impermanence made him nervous and he suddenly went to get his cell phone to call Lu Zhen. Lieutenant Colonel Lu was having dinner in the canteen, chewing on his vegetables when he received a call. In an unclear voice, he said, “Just say it, I’ll listen. This dish is so bad, maybe chatting with you will distract me enough and help me eat it.”
Chen Mo sat up and told him everything from the beginning. When Lu Zhen heard the whole story he slapped his chopsticks on the table. He was unbelievably angry with only one thought running through his mind. Too much!
Chen Mo felt a little unhappy, and defended Miao Jiang saying that the other party were also kind…
Lu Zhen clicked his tongue and the sound of his voice drifted slowly across thousands of miles of mountains and rivers along with the radio waves. I mean, it’s too much! Our country China, has a divide between the rich and poor, and the people’s living standards aren’t improving. Look at you. Good fish and meat can’t be eaten easily. You’re such a good catch! Even if a person searched hard they won’t even find such good oil or water in the leaves of the rotten vegetables. How could such bullies exist in this world?!
(No one like Chen Mo out there, is basically what he’s saying. lol)
Chen Mohua was so scared that he wisely decided to not comment on the thunderous complaints of the Lieutenant and continued to talk about his whole experience. After listening to the whole story, Lu Zhen was silent for a few minutes, and the sound of his breath going up and down could be heard from the speaker. Chen Mo suddenly panicked. Contrary to his expectations, Lu Zhen said in a slow and surprised tone, “Are you saying that you have got the dog’s luck that is rarely seen in a hundred years?”
Chen Mo gritted his teeth and confirmed.
Damn it! How could he say it was dog’s luck?!
