Necromancer’s Resolve - Chapter 12
The giant lunacide was thrown backward with immense force that Foster realized he most likely would have been killed if he hadn’t managed to dodge just now. Although then again, that didn’t actually necessarily mean that much, now that he thought about it. There seemed to be incredibly, incredibly monstrously strong creatures in this world, after all.
Foster slowly looked down at his body, mostly his completely numb, twisted leg, and tried to push his body up somehow. According to his status, he lost most of his health in that thing just now, and it was rather obvious what would happen should he run out of health completely. Or at least that’s what Foster thought. He didn’t actually confirm how things like that actually worked here yet, after all.
Either way, while Foster was trying to get up, one of the three people that he had tried to warn before stepped up to him and. He was the tallest of the bunch. The one that had been carrying that huge shield and Warhammer, the former strapped onto his back and the latter to his hip. Without hesitation, the man picked Foster up. He started to carry him somewhere to safety as he yelled over toward his companions.
“Let’s use this chance to get out of here!” He exclaimed, and it seemed like the other two had already been thinking the same thing, as it didn’t take long for them to follow behind him.
And while Foster was being carried around, he just saw that the large group of Lunacides was attacking the thing of flesh and bones together all at once after their ‘king’ was attacked. But Foster didn’t care, he was just incredibly exhausted because he used more mana than he wanted to. On top of that, he seemed to have at least a couple broken ribs on top of his broken leg
It seemed like this really was the perfect chance for them, just like this big guy said it was.
“Kid, you really helped us out there!” The huge man exclaimed as they were running, and Foster just quietly chuckled, an action that actually hurt his whole body, “Likewise… Thanks for saving me, man…” Foster pointed out, more than ecstatic at finally meeting other people.
For a good while, they all just kept running along the path that the thing of flesh and bones seemed to have destroyed and flattened as it brought Foster toward the well.
They soon found a spot that seemed safe enough, despite being out in the open. The thing of flesh and bones was slow, so it was relatively easy to run away from it should it approach. And since Lunacides couldn’t just freely enter the sunlight, this should be a pretty safe place for them.
“I’ve never seen that many Lunacides at once…” One of the three said, the one in the bright red armor with long blond hair tied into a ponytail, but the woman amongst the three, Jenna, wanted to speak about something else.
The moment that the big guy let Foster down onto the ground, she approached him with her arms crossed, “What are you doing here?” She asked with a deep glare, and the young man just looked up at her with a wry smile, “Erm… I… I got lost?”
“Right, of course, you just got lost. Inside of an off-limit area? A weak kid like you? Then tell me, how did you know that the necromancer controlling the undead died?” Jenna asked, and Foster stared up at her, completely intimidated.
“I don’t actually know how I got here, I just woke up in this place! I swear! That giant thing dragged me into the well, and there was this weird Lich. I fell unconscious, and when I woke up, it was already dead…” Foster explained. And he was telling the truth… There was no reason to tell them about the fact he was from another world, about Georg, or about his ‘Dyotis Necromancer’ class. He wasn’t exactly sure how people here thought about necromancers, after all…
There were plenty of novels where necromancers were condemned and immediately thought of as evil. Foster just didn’t want to be imprisoned immediately.
With a deep glare, Jenna stared down at Foster and then kneeled down in front of him, “We’re taking you with us. We shouldn’t stay here too long.” She muttered, slowly pushing her hand into the satchel hanging by her side to grab a small glass bottle filled with a red liquid.
“Here, hold on to this. But don’t drink it yet, we need to re-adjust your bone first.” She said, and Foster stared at her confusedly, “Wh-What is this..?” He asked, slowly looking down at it as he felt puzzled stares from Jenna and those other two.
[Medium Grade Health Potion]
“Just kidding, haha…” Foster fake-laughed immediately. Judging from everyone’s expression, it seemed like a health potion like this was really something like a common good as it was described in all those stories.
“Right…” The blonde-haired guy muttered quietly as he swung his spear over his shoulder and started looking around the area to make sure they wouldn’t be jumped all of a sudden.
“Hey kid, just wondering, but do you have some sort of spatial item on you? You were a lot heavier than your frame let on…” The big guy pointed out, but Foster just shook his head, “I don’t, but… Spatial item? Like a bag of holding or something?”
“Err, something like that, yeah. Your backpack seemed pretty uncommon, so I thought that might’ve been it.” As he once more looked Foster up and down, the big guy noticed that the backpack really wasn’t the only thing that was a little off about him. That weird thick necklace around his neck and those colorful shoes seemed quite uncommon as well, just making him question who Foster was even more.
Although soon, Jenna looked up at her friend confusedly, “Clark, I think it’s his outfit, actually… It seems really heavy…” She explained as she tried to pull the pant-leg up a little so that she could get a proper look at Foster’s leg. The big guy, Clark, slowly kneeled down as well and tried to tug at Foster’s clothes, before slowly nodding his head.
“Yeah… Kid, what’re these made of?” Clark asked with a curious expression as he helped Jenna pull the pant leg up without hurting Foster any more. With a deep, nervous sigh that came from Foster trying to properly regain his composure in this situation despite his whole body aching like a bitch, the young man tried to recall what exactly it was.
“Erm… What was it? Dji… Djieien thread?” Foster replied, before he immediately felt immense pain in his leg as Jenna accidentally pushed her weight onto it, “Holy mother of- ffffffuuu…” He yelled out loudly, and the young woman immediately took her weight off of him again.
“I’m so sorry! It’s just…” Jenna said apologetically and then stared back at Foster with even more suspicion than before, “Sure, Djieien thread would explain the weight, but… It’s super hard to get.” She pointed out.
And the third of the group, whose name Foster still didn’t know, approached him with a deep glare, “Alright, what kind of noble brat are you? Who let you into this forest? Did you bribe your way in or something after hearing the barrier went down?” He asked Foster, but he really didn’t know what he was talking about. Clark, on the other hand, seemed to think this was a bit too much, “Aaron! Stop it, we’ll question him later! We’ll-”
The very next moment, Clark pushed his body up and readied his Warhammer in both his hands, “Undead. Animated skeleton.” The big guy said with a deep glare, and Foster stared into the direction he was looking at before he started hearing two familiar voices. “By the gods, Ernard! I already told ya, the right leg and left arm are mine! Don’t ya dare take these from me!” Jakob yelled out annoyedly, but Ernard, seemingly not really agreeing, immediately complained.
“I’m just saying, why can’t we just have one of us concentrate on walking with both legs at once? We had to put ourselves together two times already…” He exclaimed although both of them stopped for a second afterward.
“Ourselves?”
“Ourself?”
“Myself?
“Yourself?” They asked in turn to one another, and Foster soon realized what exactly was going on as the two animated skeletons stepped out of the thicket into the open. After the thing of flesh and bones turned them into bits and pieces, they had to make use of whatever they had to put themselves together into one single skeleton. Most of their individual bones were probably broken, so this was the only solution.
And now they stood there with a single combined body, albeit with weird, differentiating limb-lengths, and two heads on the same shoulders.
“You guys..?” Foster asked confusedly, and it seemed like him asking that as Clark and Aaron prepared to fight startled Jenna enough to accidentally pull on his leg without warning him.
And with a loud crack, as well as a scream that took Foster’s whole body to create, his bone was now re-adjusted as the young man started pushing his fingers into the ground. With an annoyed groan, Jenna took the health potion back out of Foster’s hand, pulled out the cork, before grabbing the young man by the chin to force his mouth open and the red liquid inside.
As his tongue was covered in a taste more sickeningly bitter than any coffee he ever tried before, his body was weirdly overcome with a surge of energy. Although, that energy was accompanied by an immense amount of pain as his leg kept cracking as the numbness and swelling disappeared.
At the same time, it seemed like his other smaller injuries, like scratches, were healed as well.
“Huh?” Jakob muttered suddenly, staring at Foster as he was sitting there on the ground after that excruciatingly painful scream, “Foster?! What did these people do to you?!” He asked immediately, at which point Ernard seemed to have realized who this was as well.
“Are those guys the ones controlling that thing?!” Ernard yelled out confusedly, but Foster just immediately shook his head as he tried to stand up. His leg seemed to be fine again, after all.
“No, no! You two, don’t! These guys literally saved my life just now!” Foster explained although neither Ernard nor Jakob seemed entirely convinced, “Hah! They’re forcing you to say that, aren’t they?! These wicked-”
The moment that the two-headed skeleton wanted to step forward to attack, they could feel the rush of a spear being stuck right in between their two heads. They immediately froze up. Slowly, casually holding his spear forward with one arm, Aaron turned toward Foster.
“Alrighty, then, what’s going on here, kid. First of all, how do you know this undead? It apparently retained some of its intelligence and personality, but it’s still just an undead. I’ll kill it if you don’t answer immediately.” Aaron said with a deep glare, seemingly ready to incinerate Jakob and Ernard immediately.
“I…” Foster said nervously, just staring at Aaron unsure of what he should do or say, “I’m a necromancer! Those two are my undead, even if I don’t know how they ended up combined like that!” He spouted out suddenly. And as he did so, not only the three people around him stared at him with confusion, but Jakob and Ernard seemed just as confused, nearly unhinging their jaws.
