Negai o Kanaete Moraou to Akuma o Shōkan Shitakedo, Kawaikattanode Kekkonshimashita ~ Akuma no Nīdzuma - CH 100
Children, especially little girls, had a tendency to tell men they liked that they would marry them in the future.
In most cases, this promise would be forgotten, and even if the girl did remember it, they would simply keep it in their hearts as a thing that happened long ago.
Most adults understood this, and would never take such a promise from a child at face value, but…
“Anyone who attempts to lay a hand on my husband… Young or old, man or woman, will have to deal with me.”
Helvi glared at Luna, who held Theo’s hand, with intense bloodlust.
Luna and her parents were blissfully unaware, and carried on with their conversation as if nothing happened.
“H-helvi no. Calm down!”
Theo was the only one to notice this mood shift.
Theo’s training meant he was able to detect someone’s bloodlust. Not that this was the reason why he wanted to become stronger.
“What do you mean no, Theo?”
“When a child says something like that, how should I put this… It’s like a joke. You can’t take that seriously.”
“I-is that so? Hmm…”
Most people living in the human world would find those words adorable, but Helvi was a devil, and never heard a child say this. Helvi took Luna’s words as a declaration of war.
“I do not think that is a very funny thing to say to someone like you, who already has a wife…”
“You shouldn’t think too deeply about something a child said…”
At this point, Luna started listening to the conversation, and interjected.
“I’m serious! I’m going to marry mister Theo!”
Luna puffed her cheeks, seemingly mad that the adults were not taking her seriously.
“…Would you still call this a joke, Theo?”
“Ah, hum, well, yes… Luna, can you go to your parents for a bit?”
The bloodlust that subsided was increasing once again, so Theo tried to get Luna to safety.
“Helvi, please calm down. She’s just a child, so even if she’s serious now, she’ll forget about it when she grows up.”
“…Forgetting that she once confessed her love for you is a little annoying in itself, but I will overlook it.”
“Hahaha…”
Helvi took what a child said seriously and released her bloodlust. It was not very mature of her.
Theo felt he saw a surprising facet of her personality, but still found it endearing, because she was doing it for his sake.
He started thinking that maybe he would also be jealous if a little boy told Helvi he would marry her in the future, even though he knew that was just something children said.
Helvi was ignorant of this, so it could not be helped, which made Theo feel he was in no position to complain, if he would possibly be jealous despite knowing about it.
“Mister Theo! Miss Helvi! Come on!”
“Ah, yes! Let’s go Helvi.”
“…Yes…”
Theo and Helvi walked faster while holding hands to catch up to Luna and her parents.
“Oh my, so you two really are a couple, aren’t you?”
Said Luna’s mother with a graceful smile as she looked at Theo and Helvi.
“Ah, well, we’re married…”
“Oh dear! Is that so? I did think you looked good together.”
“Phew… That means what Luna said about marrying you is void.”
Said Luna’s father while sounding relieved, which made his daughter puff out her cheeks again.
“Eh… No! I’m going to marry mister Theo! Miss Helvi, break up with him!”
“…Hou. So you really do want to start a fight with me, Luna…”
“H-Helvi, hold it back, hold it back…”
A child’s innocence could be scary sometimes.
Although Helvi was holding back her anger, she could not hold back her bloodlust. Still, Luna was not at all intimidated.
“Fufu, you really are loved, mister Theo.”
“Hahaha…”
Luna’s mother laughed as she saw Helvi take her daughter’s words completely at face value.
Theo responded with an awkward laugh, but was happy on the inside.
He had never seen someone being clearly jealous about him, and the happiness he felt outweighed the surprise.
The stand-off between Luna and Helvi continued for a while, and ended when Luna’s father flusteredly stepped in.
