New World New Life - Chapter 186
As the guards surveyed the empty hallways of the mansion, all they could hear was the sound of their own footsteps and the clanking of their metal armour. Baron Koufer’s paranoia had caused the entire staff to be on high alert.
But fatigue caught up to them pretty quickly, not to mention the things they had been asked to do. Those who resisted never came back. They either left on their own accord or were now in the pit.
Vy was using the powers of the Dark Kyu, since it was at its peak with the wane of the moon. While she was not certain the full range of her powers, she was ready to give it a test run. Just as she had done before with her regular Kyu form, Vy adopted a hybrid form.
A pair of fur-covered ears appeared at the top of her head, her nails grew longer, turned back and were sharpened. Nine black fur tails appeared on her back. Looking up at the starless night sky, Vy took a deep breath of air into her lungs.
In one breath, she let out a breath of air. From the moment it left her lips, the air was filled with tiny dark coloured crystal flakes. The flakes flew high up into the air, multiplying in number until the sky of their surrounding area was covered in dark coloured clouds.
There were no rumbles of thunder, no flash of lightning.
The shadow formed cast down on the entire estate.
Tiny crystal flakes fell from the dark clouds, covering the area in cold air and dark ice flakes.
-Now that is something you don’t see everyday.- Aether commented as he looked around.
Vy grinned as she looked up at the clouds and held out her hand as some of the flakes fell into her palm. She could feel the cold air surrounding her as the temperature continued to drop rapidly.
“Let’s go,” Vy whispered to Aether as she walked towards the wall that separated the Koufer Estate from the surrounding forest.
Aether slithered over to her and coiled himself on her wrist once more.
-Where to first?- he asked.
-To collect my things first.- Vy replied as she leapt up into the air and crossed the wall.
As she landed on the inside of the compound, she landed softly on her feet, barely making a sound. Her ears flicked as it caught the sound of footsteps. Her Kyu form’s sight allowed her to see the energy signature that living creatures emanate.
This allowed her to sense other people from a distance away. With the shadow and darkness as her cover, Vy moved quickly through the open grounds. She went straight for the entrance of the dungeon.
Seeing the torch lights that lit up the spiral staircase that led down to the dungeon, Vy grinned. She brought her hand close to her mouth and blew out a breath of air. The air swirled, moving with a mind of its own.
As it floated through the air, it swiftly blew out every single lit torch and candle all throughout the dungeon. The voices of the guards down below echoed out through the spiral staircase. With the cover of darkness by her side, she descended down the stairs.
Swiftly with ease, Vy quickly knocked out all of the guards. She could sense their moves with ease. Not to mention, she could see where they were when they could not. Using her sense of smell, special sight and agile movements, Vy retrieved what she came for.
She put back on her spatial bracelet and dragon pendant necklace. Vy touched the carving of the necklace, smiling to herself. It felt good to have it around her neck once more.
Now, it was time for the second part of her plan.
Vy ascended the steps. When she was back at ground level, she looked around to map out her next course of action. The crystal flakes continued to fall as the air grew colder. But the change in temperature did not affect Vy or Aether.
Instead of going through the dark hallways, sneaking around each corner, Vy took the easy route. She took to her sky form and flew up into the sky towards the window of Baron Koufer’s room.
It was so quiet, that you could even hear a pin drop. Vy had her eyes locked on the Baron who was sound asleep on his bed. In the next second, she took to her human form and entered the room.
She could smell the faint scent of alcohol. Vy turned to her right to see the broken bottle of alcohol on the table. It was then that she also noticed the faint smell of blood as well. Did someone come and did her job for her?
She took a few steps closer to the Baron and she noticed his bandaged hand.
She rolled her eyes.
-So, what next?- Aether asked eagerly.
Vy grinned.
-It is time to wake him up.-
The Baron was deep asleep. Finally, after insomnia had plagued him for the past few days, he was able to get some rest. But the uneasy feeling he felt made him uncomfortable. It was as if someone was suffocating him.
Why did it feel so familiar, yet foreign?
It was as if someone was hugging him. As he slowly opened his eyes, he could feel the soreness of his eyes.
Baron Koufer tried to move. But he could not. He felt as if his entire body was in a bind. Without the moonlight, he could barely see his surroundings. As he looked down at his body, he realised something was coiling around him.
With every move he made, the coil tightened over and over again.
He struggled.
Sweat droplets trickled down his forehead.
Why couldn’t he move at all?
“This is just a nightmare,” he muttered to himself.
“A nightmare?” a voice spoke loud and clear right next to him.
When he turned over, he was shocked to see Vy’s face up close.
She had a small candle lamp in her hands.
With the light from the candle lamp, Baron Koufer realised that he could not see his body. He was covered by something. Something that coiled and constricted his body with increasing tightness.
The keeled scales of dark purple and blue scraped across his skin, sending jolts of pain throughout his body.
He was awake.
This was not a nightmare.
