New World New Life - Chapter 187
“Argh Let let go of me!” the Baron shouted as he continued to struggle.
Aether tightened his coil around the Baron, causing him to curse out in pain even more. Why weren’t the guards bursting in to save him? Did they not know that their Baron was in danger?
Vy immediately caught on to where he was looking. She knew what he was thinking of.
“No one’s coming to rescue you, Baron Koufer.” she whispered to him with a grin on her face.
“You’ll pay for this! You b” before he could finish his cursing, Aether constricted his body even more.
As Aether hissed, his forked tongue flicked out occasionally. He did not take his eyes off the Baron’s flickering gaze.
-You better watch your words.- he hissed to Baron Koufer through telepathy.
“Witchcraft! This is the work of the devil and demons! I should have known arghhh!!” he could barely finish his sentences.
Vy placed a finger on her lips and hushed him as she pets Aether on the head with her other hand.
“The more you speak, the more you will suffer, Baron Koufer,” she whispered to him.
She could hear his heart palpitating loud and clear as she placed the candle lamp on the bedside table and looked out of the window. The crystal flakes have covered the grounds of the estate completely like a layer of snow.
Footsteps barely made any sound, muffled by the snow-like flakes. Seeing that Vy was not paying attention to him, the Baron called out for help. As soon as he did, Aether coiled himself around the Baron’s neck and mouth.
He constricted the rest of his body tighter than before. This caused the Baron’s bones to crack under the pressure.
Vy could hear the snap and crack.
Baron Koufer let out a gut-wrenching scream. But no one could hear him.
Vy leaned in close to the Baron.
“I know about the pit, Koufer,” she whispered to him as she looked him directly in the eyes.
Someone once said the eyes were the windows to one’s soul.
Vy could verify that their assumption was right.
Koufer’s eyes were filled with a myriad of emotions.
Pain.
Fear.
Anger.
Helplessness.
Agony.
“Oh don’t look at me like that,” she teased him with a grin.
“Those people you killed. They cry for justice,” she explained.
She might not be able to read minds, but Vy felt like she knew exactly what he was thinking of in that moment. She was not going to let him off easily. She had been too lenient. Aether turned over to Vy.
-So? What’s the plan?- he asked.
Killing him here and now felt like it was too easy. Letting him go, was not an option. Trapping him seemed like the perfect fit. Vy looked over to Baron Koufer. The smile had long disappeared from her face.
What remained was the void of emotion.
“I think we have the perfect spot for him to be,” she replied.
As Aether continued to constrict his body around Koufer, the Baron gasped for air. The increasing pressure on his lungs and windpipe made his breathing more laborious. As his vision began to blur, he mouthed some words of desperation.
But none of it was ever heard by anyone.
Vy walked over to the table. She found a piece of paper and a pen.
Aether did not ask what she was doing. He simply observed her as she penned down a message on the piece of paper and left it on the bedside table. To hold it down in place, she placed the pen on it to act as a paperweight.
Aether released Baron Koufer’s body from his hold and slithered over to Vy, coiling himself on her wrist. Vy picked up the Baron’s broken body. His bones had almost all been snapped by Aether.
Vy approached the window once more and looked out of it. The dark snow had fully covered the estate grounds like a blanket. Vy did not feel cold at all. But when she let out a breath of air through her mouth, she could see a breath of mist.
On the ground, she could see some of the guards and servants of the estate having gathered outside in bewilderment at the phenomenon they were witnessing. They were covered in thick coats and blankets before exposing themselves to the cold. Some of them reached out to touch the dark crystal flakes.
But under the cover of night, none of them could tell what they were. When they held their lamps too close to it, all that was left on their palms were droplets of water. Those who used a simple light spell to illuminate their immediate surroundings were surprised to see that it was all dark coloured snow that was beneath their shoes.
“We need to inform Butler Chon! Someone go get him!” one of the servants shouted to the others.
A young kitchen girl was tasked with informing him. She ran through hallways after hallway, searching for any sign of the old butler. Finally, she saw light seeping through the crack of an open door and took the chance.
The door creaked open and she walked in immediately.
“Butler Chon! You have to come quickly!” she exclaimed as she tried to catch her breath.
Old Chon had not noticed the girl the first time she called out to him. It was only when she tapped him on the shoulder that he came to his senses.
“Lora, what is it?” he asked as he put down the pen in his hand.
It was at this moment that Old Chon felt a cold chill. The opened door allowed the cold air to enter the room.
“It’s… it’s snowing!” Lora explained.
Upon hearing the young girl’s explanation, he grabbed a lamp and followed her out into the open.
The girl might have been young, but she had never lied. Not even once. Hence when she said it had begun to snow, Old Chon did not doubt her as much as he might have. But snow at this time of the year was unheard of!
