Nightmare Came to The Place I Escaped - Chapter 107
“Oh, God!”
Diana, who had been in an uncomfortable position for a long time, began to vomit as if she was feeling unwell. Diana frowned, and opened her eyes with difficulty.
“Oooh!”
Diana vomited the things inside of her again. She hadn’t eaten properly for several days, so when she emptied out her insides, all that came out was gastric juices.
“Ugh, like a beggar.”
Diana cursed quietly when she realized that her upper body was tied to a tree. When the knight guarding Diana realized she’d woken up he shouted out loud.
“Duke, Diana is awake.”
Diana frowned and raised her head to look around. Knights of the Oates family and the Duke of Oates were busily moving around.
She was caught because of bad luck. That meant that all her plans for revenge were lost, and her life was over. Strangely, this fact hadn’t reached her yet.
She felt dizzy, as if she was motion sickness. It felt like she’d overdone it while she was running away from the Imperial Knights over the past few days.
Perhaps because of that, the various thoughts that floated in her head couldn’t be organized into a single one.
Step Step
Diana looked up and saw the Duke of Oates walking toward her, and soon lowered her gaze again.
If she was caught like this, she wouldn’t escape the death penalty. She would face the most disgraceful death before everyone.
She had to think about how she could get away.
Funny how he reminded Diana of her father, even though Duke Oates and her father looked nothing alike. It was strange how she was remembering her father as she faced him.
Diana uttered harsh curses in a rush of irritation.
“Diana Avery.”
From the mouth of the Duke of Oates, a voice colored with anger that Diana had never heard before. His voice trembled with rage, as if he couldn’t bear how angry he was feeling.
“How dare you aim for an Oates. Tell me where the mercenaries have fled to.”
“Tsk, unlucky.”
Diana contemplated the Duke’s divine luck, and clicked her tongue.
Nothing was going the way she wanted.
“Haaa…”
She’d tried to kill that b!tch girl, but the stupid mercenaries were in trouble because they couldn’t kill five knights even after occupying the advantageous high ground.
The insane Ian Dakendov got out of the carriage that the b!tch and Mike were supposed to be in.
Did Count Blackbore stab her in the back? But why now?
If he’d intended to betray her, he would’ve had to inform the knights of the Imperial palace as soon as he left the dungeon after he received the bag of money from her.
Besides, this offer certainly wasn’t bad for Count Blackbore.
Regardless of the success of the job, the mercenaries and she would all die in one day, and no one would know that he was involved in this.
Wasn’t it a golden opportunity for Count Blackbore to take revenge on Ian without much effort?
Diana was confused and annoyed at a situation that made no sense at all.
“Diana, this is your last warning. Where did the mercenaries run to? Come on, tell me who they belong to!”
Why in the world would Count Blackbore, and even herself, be suspected.
“What?”
No, that’s not it.
That fox-like Count planned this from the very beginning. He planned to sell her out from the beginning.
After all, he wanted to look good in front of the Emperor. All for the sake of his family’s prestige and power.
The prestige and power of his family were more important than revenge against Ian.
“Hah, that’s how it is.”
Then, this whole situation flowed the way the Count and Ian wanted it to flow, right?
“Pfft!”
When she thought of it like that, everything began to make sense.
The Duke of Oates’ knights had gotten the information, then they had searched all over for them. Also, there was no Rachel in that carriage, instead it was Ian.
To add to her guilt.
“Puhaha!”
“Diana!”
She ended up being treated like this until the very end.
Without knowing that, she was arrogant that she would try the next thing. That she could look for another opportunity and seize a second chance.
“What do you mean, you know everything.”
Maybe the mercenaries were in on it, too?
“I don’t know who they belong to, since they were hired by Count Blackbore. No, were they even mercenaries?”
Weren’t the mercenaries killed by the arrows that Ian shot? Were they truly the ones Count Blackbore hired to reassure her?
Did the person who was shot down in front of her really die?
If Ian knew everything, why the heck did he just leave her alone?
“Haa, I look like a beggar.”
The more she followed the questions that came to her mind, the more her head hurt.
Yeah, what was the point of all that now? She would have eventually been captured by the Duke of Oates. Even if she’d escaped safely from this place, Count Blackbore wouldn’t have welcomed her.
Perhaps this time, she would immediately be handed over to the Imperial knights.
Diana laughed constantly at her own misery.
“Like a fool. I didn’t know I was betrayed, and I was excited all alone. I really thought that I could kill that girl.”
Diana’s derision greatly disturbed the Duke’s breathing.
“No, but I’m really curious. Why did he do this? It’s me anyway, right? I’m dead as soon as I get caught. What difference would it make if another sin was added?”
Due to the attempted murder of the Imperial family member, she was already dead. So, why did the Emperor allow her to do this?
Was it just for fun?
“It really doesn’t make sense. Don’t you think so?”
“So, that means Count Blackbore has something to do with this.”
“What?”
Diana raised her head as much as she could to see the Duke’s face. Diana frowned as she leaned against the tree behind her.
The Duke was covering his annoyed face with his hand.
However, from the slight trembling of his hard mouth, it was possible to guess that he was unbearably angry.
“I guess the Duke didn’t know?”
Then how on earth did the Duke know where to look for her and the mercenaries?
Diana frowned at the circumstance she didn’t understand. She was annoyed by the situation where the front and back didn’t match.
“Then how were you looking for me? How did you find out that I was with the mercenaries?”
Even if it wouldn’t change anything, she wanted to put her head through it again to figure out why the current situation had become this way.
In the end, she would face death condemned in front of everyone. She was to be hanged in front of the people who came to the temple to watch the execution that would be turned into a spectacle.
“Oh, God!”
Diana frowned as the nausea rose again.
She felt nauseous, sick to her stomach, even her head hurt.
“Diana Avery, this is where we can talk nicely. Tell me straight about the deal you had with Blackbore.”
“Ugh, I get it.”
Diana’s chest felt tight, and she was having difficulty breathing.
She gritted her teeth and twisted her upper body in annoyance. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t manage to catch her breath.
“Okay, if I tell you, please loosen this rope.”
Diana glanced down at the rope that was squeezing her body and said,
“Unless you want me to choke to death.”
The Duke of Oates thought for a moment, and nodded in agreement.
“Tsk, Count Blackbore was supposed to hire the mercenaries. I must have been betrayed. The mercenaries ran away, but I don’t know where they went. I don’t even know who they belong to.”
Diana slowly opened her mouth.
“Sigh, you don’t know anything?”
“That’s right. They abandoned me and ran away, while I got caught alone on the forest path.”
“Just loosen the ropes enough so that she can breathe.”
As Diana slowly stretched out her words as she watched the Duke of Oates expression, the Duke sighed slightly as if annoyed. He ordered a nearby knight to loosen the ropes.
Her hands were finally free, so Diana roughly wiped the residue of her sickness from her face.
“It was decided to give the mercenaries a poison that would harden their limbs, killing everyone involved in this. So, I thought he wouldn’t betray me.”
“Poison?”
“But now that I see it, he must’ve poisoned the mercenaries as promised. I don’t even know if they’re really mercenaries.”
“What poison was it?”
“It’s a drug that gradually paralyzes the body. It spreads slowly so that you don’t feel any large abnormalities.”
Diana obediently opened up because there was no reason to hide it anymore.
“I heard that it’s a drug that will kill you within two days. To be exact.”
Diana clasped her free hand. It wouldn’t be a problem even if she told everything that had happened with Count Blackbore.
It was enough to take the poison she’d prepared in advance.
If Count Blackbore had given the mercenaries fake poison, he wouldn’t have been able to safeguard his secret.
She wanted to seize the opportunity, and get revenge properly. It seemed to her that there was nothing further.
Then there was only one thing she could choose.
To die by her own hand.
She didn’t want to see all of her actions being pointed at and turned into a spectacle. She didn’t want to wait or accept what they would do.
“I’ve seen them run away in the same direction as me, but after that.”
Diana shook her head lightly.
Before she was captured by the Oates’ knights, the mercenaries had already abandoned her and fled. That was all Diana knew, she didn’t know what the heck was going on.
Diana let out a deep sigh, and closed her eyes.
The Duke looked down at Diana, and immediately turned around. The Duke’s steps seemed a bit urgent.
Diana looked at the Duke walking away, then looked at the knight standing guard over her. When his eyes were averted, she carefully rummaged through the inside pockets of her clothes.
“What?”
However, nothing was felt in her pocket.
Diana’s eyes shook finely. She hurriedly searched through the pockets on her clothes.
But there was nothing in her hands.
The small glass bottle and dagger.
“Argh! Where is it?”
The knights glanced as Diana screamed in vain, but that was all.
No matter how long and how hard she shouted, no one moved for Diana.
