Nightmare Came to The Place I Escaped - Chapter 95
“The current situation doesn’t make sense unless she stole it.”
“Did Lady Avery really say that?”
There was a deep confusion in Rachel’s green eyes while listening to the young ladies.
“She said it was a necklace that she got from His Majesty?”
“Yes, she did. We all heard it.”
Rachel spoke slowly, as if she was in disbelief. She frowned at the young ladies’ confident answers.
The noblewomen let out sympathetic sighs, as if they were lamenting the situation.
The eyes of the young ladies that were looking at her became more relaxed, as if the boundaries between them and Rachel had been broken down.
“Again, do you know what Lady Avery said? That Lady Oates had come between His Majesty and her, and interfered in their relationship. Now that I see it, it all seems to be a lie.”
“Lady Avery….”
As Rachel slowly opened her mouth, the young ladies in the hall stopped talking for a moment and only looked at Rachel.
“To me, she said that all the young ladies were disappointed and angry with me.”
Rachel sighed in shock. Even so, she just stared at her teacup as if she couldn’t believe the current situation.
“So I told her that I would take a break from the social world for a while…”
The young ladies blinked as if they were taken aback at Rachel’s words, but soon raised their voices louder than before.
“She did this to trick us by keeping the lady away from the social world!”
“Ha, how clever!”
“She deceived not only Lady Oates, but all of us. Even His Majesty!”
“We can’t just let this happen.”
At that time, as the young women were speaking out one by one, as if they were resentful of the fact that Diana was playing with them, Lady Rika carefully held Rachel’s hand.
“I wonder how much Lady Oates must have suffered alone because of Lady Avery’s words…”
Rachel’s shoulder’s shook slightly as if she was crying, and she hurriedly covered her mouth. Then, the young ladies looked at Rachel with a small sigh as if they felt sorry for her.
“Now that we know everything, we won’t hang around Lady Avery anymore.”
Everyone gave Rachel words of comfort. Rachel nodded as if she was okay.
“Lady Oates, you don’t have to worry about anything now.”
Lady Rika, who held Rachel’s hand, squeezed her hand as if she was reassuring Rachel.
Each of the young women there had suffered because of Diana. The hall was soon cluttered with the times someone suffered from Diana’s atrocities or things she didn’t like.
Knock Knock
“Lady Oates, Lady Diana Avery is here.”
The maid announced the arrival of Diana.
“Diana Avery? She’s here?”
“Ha, what the heck is she thinking…”
Soon the door opened and Diana entered.
Tap Tap
With Diana’s appearance, the party hall became quiet as if cold water had been poured on everyone.
The only sound was the tapping of Diana’s shoes.
“Lady Rachel Oates, thank you for inviting me.”
Diana smiled broadly at the attention she was receiving from everyone.
Tap Tap
“But the road on the way to the Duke’s residence was narrow, so I was a little late.”
“….”
The moment Diana finished speaking, there was a long silence. Only then did Diana realize that the atmosphere was strange and looked around at the young ladies.
“Ha! What a thief, and still acting so shamelessly.”
At that moment, Lady Rika clicked her tongue.
“…A thief? Are you talking to me?”
“Haha, no. I was just continuing the conversation I had before you arrived.”
At Diana’s sharp tone, Lady Rika shook her head in a sarcastic manner.
Diana glared at Lady Rika for a while. Diana didn’t like what she said, but she couldn’t be sure that Rika’s words were directed at her, so she had no choice but to sit down.
“Lady Oates, I don’t know how you arranged the seats, but you put my seat on the edge.”
Saying that, Diana looked at the young lady sitting next to Rachel.
She wanted that seat, so glared at the woman so that she would get up.
However, the young lady sitting next to Rachel just kept her seat as if she didn’t understand Diana’s gaze.
“Oh, my teacup is empty. It’s the first time the lady hosted a tea party, so it’s normal that you should make a mistake, but next time you’ll have to be more careful.”
Diana clicked her tongue slightly as she looked at her empty teacup, then raised her hand and called for the maid.
“No matter how long you’ve been a ducal lady, you’re still clumsy in this way. Even if I try to be understanding, it’s inevitable that you’ll be compared to other ladies.”
“Lady Avery.”
Rachel raised her hand and stopped the maid from approaching Diana, then she called out to her.
“I don’t think it’s too late to prepare the tea after our conversation.”
“What?”
“I heard from the young ladies that His Majesty gave a necklace to you?”
For a moment, a sense of frustration hung over Diana’s face.
But only for a moment.
“Yes, I did.”
Diana nodded slowly.
“I lost the Lucky necklace that I received as a gift from His Majesty a while ago, and I heard that Lady Avery’s looks similar to the necklace I lost. Is this all a coincidence?”
“Lady Oates, I don’t know what you’re trying to say.”
The noblewomen furrowed their brows and looked at Diana as if they were incensed by her brazen attitude.
“Lady Avery, do you really not understand what I mean? Because I think you understand.”
“I understand? So you’re saying I’m lying?”
As if she was being treated unfairly, Diana jumped up from her seat. Her clenched fists seemed to represent the insult she felt.
“It was a gift from His Majesty!”
“His Majesty? If what you say is true, do you mean that His Majesty gave you an imitation?”
“Ladies, it’s not true. It’s not even clear if His Majesty really gave Lady Oates a gift.”
“Ha! Then you must think I’m lying?!”
Diane kept shouting at the noblewomen who were pushing back.
However, there seemed to be no one here who felt sorry for Diana.
Whether Diana’s face turned red or her voice trembled, the young ladies only looked at her with cold eyes.
“The day Lady Avery visited the Oates estate to meet me, is that when you stole my necklace?”
“Stole it? I received it from you!”
Diana, who was angry at Rachel’s question, hurriedly closed her mouth.
“…No, it’s mine. It’s mine because His Majesty gave it to me.”
Then she corrected her words.
“Tsk, has the lady even had any contact with His Majesty?”
“…What?”
“I’ve heard about what rumors you’ve been spreading in society. I’ll give you some sincere advice, you’d better stop here before it gets any bigger.”
Rachel shook her head quietly as if she were sick of it.
“Lady Oates! What kind of rude slander is this? It’s mine! It’s the necklace His Majesty gave me!”
“Lady Avery, if you say so to the end, then I will have no choice but to ask His Majesty directly.”
Rachel stared at the red-faced Diana.
“But when His Majesty speaks, then you will have to admit the truth.”
Rachel got up from her seat as Diana glared at her fiercely.
“Also, if you don’t want to give back the gift the Emperor gave me, then you should keep the necklace safe. I want to get it back in its entirety.”
“Lady Oates, I haven’t seen you often, but you’re more brazen than I thought.”
Diana bit her lip hard as if indignant.
The young ladies sitting next to Diana, who wore a ferocious expression, carefully pulled their chairs away from her.
“I am. I haven’t seen you much either, it seems that the lady has worse hand habits than I thought.”
Rachel said to Diana with an expressionless face.
It was what Diana always did to others. Inciting people, falsely accusing them, and trampling on their pride.
Rachel stared at Diana, who was glaring at her with her neck flushed red.
Diana was firmly upset by the current situation.
She did not know how to show mercy to others. Diana usually enjoyed these kinds of situations, but the current circumstance she was facing didn’t seem very pleasant.
Blood flowed from her lip with how hard she was biting it.
Rachel barely resisted laughing at Diana, who was endlessly shameless and selfish.
“If you had stolen anything else, I would’ve let it go quietly, but what Lady Avery took was given to me by His Majesty. I can’t just let it go.”
Diana, who was trembling and unable to control her anger, threw the teacup in front of her.
Shatter!
The empty teacup landed on Rachel’s table and shattered.
“Kyaaa!!!”
The young ladies who were sitting and watching Diana and Rachel hurriedly rose from their seats as if surprised by Diana’s rampage.
“…Stole it.”
Surprised by the disturbance, young ladies hurried up from their seats and called for help.
“I stole it?! You gave it to me that day! You said it suited me better!”
“Ha, what a ridiculous thing to say.”
“You gave it to me!”
Servants came running at the loud disturbance and yelling, then caught Diana as she charged at Rachel.
“Everything is a mess because of Lady Avery.”
“Hey!”
“It seems that you have no intention of drinking tea. I need you to leave.”
Rachel said this as she looked down at the shattered cup, and the overturned tea set.
At Rachel’s gesture, the servants dragged Diana out.
“Hey!”
As if she was angry and had more to say, Diana shouted with a loud voice. Rachel looked at Diana for a moment as she was dragged-out, then moved to her as she screamed at her.
“I stole it? You gave it to me!”
