Nightmare System - Volume 1 Chapter 55 Unstoppable Beast
“We will arrive soon, King- I mean- Hell!” Annette said with a smile.
“I have a bad feeling, I’ll go on ahead and find him myself.”
“But Hell, we are already very close, I am sure there’s a proper welcome being prepared for you.”
Annette was confused as to why her king would choose to rush at this point, they had been flying almost half a day now. She watched Hell jumped off the helicopter and shoot forward in speed.
“I wish he flew me there, too,” Annette dreamed as she continued sitting on the plane.
“Everything has gone to shit,” Jack slowly spoke as he tried to find the strength to move.
He had severely underestimated the power of The Blessed. Not only had they numerous men with decent strength, but Raul and Alia were also both far stronger than he could handle. He held his hide until he healed just a bit more, otherwise, his organs could spill out.
When he asked for Devlin back from Raul, he feigned stupidity and caused a battle to break out. He had destroyed a portion of the building holding Miur, as well, using explosives. If he had his strength, this could be a different story. It seemed the plan hadn’t worked, he was the only one somewhat damaged by the explosives along with the damage he suffered.
Raul’s strength was undeniable to Jack, he didn’t think it would be possible to beat him. Ordering his army to attack, he then dived inside, finally finding Devlin while trying to avoid Raul’s attacks. It had worked, he was before him. But Devlin’s joy of being saved was quickly overshadowed by Jack’s current status.
Jack dragged his bloodied body forward. Even though his regeneration abilities weren’t bad, it still wasn’t easy to heal such damage to his body. He used his claws to hold onto the wall and stand up and took slow steps toward Devlin, who was still tied to the chair, unable to move.
“Jack, it’s enough. Leave this place!” Devlin yelled as tears streaked down his face. Jack was definitely a loose cannon at times, but he had also been a good friend in the last five years, tending to his all needs and worries.
“You cursed creature, who are you to me, who was chosen by God for a divine purpose?” Raul said as he followed Jack with serene, but solemn steps. The explosion earlier had destroyed half the prison, but even amongst the numerous creatures that escaped, it seemed there was no one that could take on Alia or any of the elites amongst The Blessed.
Jack forced himself to take another step forward and patted Devlin’s head. He looked at his bruised face and forced a smile. Devlin, seeing the approaching Raul behind Jack, yelled his heart out, trying to warn him, make him turn back.
Jack didn’t think the day would come when he would die at the hands of a mortal human. Surely, this must have been a prank on him by the Gods.
“You would go so far just to learn about the rumour? Ridiculous,” Jack laughed and coughed some blood. Even though he seemed to be healing on the outside, his internal damage was not so easily healed.
“Are you ready to speak, foul fiend?” Raul asked, stopping his sword mid-air. “If you speak, I shall give you a painless death.”
“Hell does not refer to the location, but a person,” Jack muttered.
“Tell me who it is,” Raul urged, resting the sword on Jack’s back still.
Jack slowly turned around, breathing raggedly with a smile which adorned his young-looking face. Even though he looked to be a 16-year-old, his real age was five times that. He had experienced many hardsh.i.p.s and survived much, but he didn’t mind dying here, for a purpose. If Raul learned that it was Devlin’s big brother that was prophesied, it may not end well for Devlin.
“No.”
Raul brought down his sword with might and severed Jack’s arm clean off. He then asked again:
“Tell me.”
Jack yelled in pain after his arm fell on the ground with a thud. He coughed some blood and soon after his screams turned into laughter. Devlin tried to explain everything just as Raul raised his sword, but Jack was closing Devlin’s mouth with his other hand. Devlin’s muffled yelling followed right after as the Commander of The Blessed, Raul took another mighty swing forward, aiming to behead Jack in one swift motion after seeing the creature still didn’t feel like talking.
The sound of metals hitting one another was heard in the next moment, with a familiar face now appearing once more after years. Raul jumped back in surprise and in horror, “it” had escaped.
“Miur” Jack muttered as he lost the strength in his legs, almost collapsing when Miur held him up.
“You did good, kid.” Miur was not a man of many words, usually preferring to stay in the shadows and observe, but not this time.
“How did you escape, demon?!” Raul yelled with panic visible in his eyes. It was two years ago when this creature had stormed their base by himself, nearly annihilated the order of the paladins and was only stopped due to Devlin’s initiative while he was locked in a battle with Raul.
“Look behind you,” Miur gently spoke the world with a sarcastic tone.
Raul felt a presence behind him and swung his blade in a large arc immediately, attempting to cut the presence he felt there. It proved to be a mist-like Miur which was impervious to damage. Of course, illusory tricks couldn’t harm Raul, either, but it was enough.
“Other behind,” Miur whispered next to Raul’s ear and slashed his chest with five claws. He followed up with kicking him in a large motion, sending him metres away.
“Heretic!” Raul seethed as he flew away some distance.
Miur was able to create illusory copies, which he had also used in his fight against Hell when they faced off. He also slashed the rope binding Devlin with one swift motion and attached Jack’s arms. It would take some time until Jack was at his top form, but they had attached.
“Take him, leave,” Miur commanded. “We wouldn’t want our little prince to be slaughtered.”
Devlin looked at Miur with teary eyes, that even after he had ordered Miur’s surrender, he had still come to help himself. Devlin shouldered Jack to leave, which was halted by another figure, Alia.
“The demons, dead,” she uttered. More of The Blessed gathered around soon after, which caused Miur’s face to turn sour. It seemed that as of today, Knightdom would be annihilated.
Alia lunged forward in a bright flash of light as he targeted Devlin and Jack, aiming to kill them both. She was quickly parried by Miur’s claws, who stood right before the two.
“No one is to harm the prince.”
“It’s my brother!” Devlin suddenly yelled with all his might. “He is called ‘Hell’ in short! He is the one who will arrive!”
Raul raised a brow and just as he was about to mock Devlin for spewing such ridiculous lies, he heard semi-conscious Jack’s shout at Devlin to shut up, which caused him to contemplate, he was concerned.
“Leave the kid alive, kill the other two.”
Devlin felt his heart crumble. It was this morning when this was a city he was proud to be helping keep safe when he was now on a battlefield against the very people he protected. Was it all for nought? Even with all the stories of his big brother’s villainy, he still believed he was forced in some way due to the circ.u.mstances.
Alia and each member of The Blessed in the area attacked them left and right. Miur’s speciality was using the battlefield to his advantage and assassinate his targets. It was not his forte to stand his ground and endure attacks. He still killed The Blessed as they attacked and thwarted each attack from Alia, no matter how fast.
While Miur was kept stationary and was being slightly weakened, Raul managed to recover with the healing of their clerics. He was in top shape once more, only the slashes in his armour remaining. He started cackling as he walked towards the immobile Miur, he would be blessed even further after vanquishing such evil!
Alia and Raul coordinated against an attack at Devlin directly from two different sides. An attack that the two couldn’t dodge. Miur, in a split-second decision, kicked Devlin and Jack to the side, bearing the attack.
Alia’s attack arrived first, opening a large gash on his chest. Raul’s broad swing arrived right after, drawing a clear arc in the air. Before closing his eyes, the last thing Miur saw was his headless body still standing, with Devlin and Jack fallen on the ground, at least currently safe
“I have wanted to do this for the longest time,” Raul giggled and sheathed his sword.
Devlin, by now, knew enough that especially powerful vampires like Miur could only truly be killed by destroying the heart. So he threw himself on Miur’s collapsing body to protect the heart.
“Please, stop!” Devlin yelled. “This is cruel!”
“Move, cursed child!” a member of The Blessed tried to kick him away from the two collapsed monsters lying on the ground. The Blessed soldier kept kicking and punching Devlin, not using anything lethal as per the command of Raul.
Seeing as Raul and Alia both stayed quiet and watched, the man got even more aggressive and confident.
“We have protected this city for years, together. I have tried to stay within your rules as much as we could, please!” Devlin continued begging.
“I will break your arm if you don’t move, I am serious,” the man said again.
“Do it,” Raul commanded.
Devlin yelled in pain, his voice piercing the skies. “My brother did nothing! Why?!” cried Devlin. “You will have to kill me if you want to kill any of Hell’s friends!” he stood his ground. Even though he was the weakest character here, he stood still with his broken arm.
“On second thought,” Raul said with ice-cold words. “We don’t need you, either.” After a brief pause, Raul gave a terrible command with a smirk on his face. Truly there was no greater evil than a cause justified.
“Kill Devlin Reeveman, we don’t have much time until the Department arrives.”
Devlin braced himself for the life-reaping slash, but right before the blow landed, a horrifying beastly screech which filled the ears of everyone around. A large scarlet beast of immense size seemed to be getting closer towards themselves in the air. The scarlet beast awoke the primal fear inside anyone who heard it as they felt as if a child facing a starved lion.
In mere moments, the speed of the scarlet beast increased exponentially, and he crashed in the middle of the battleground like a meteor. When the dust settled, the man who has been beating Devlin was missing the upper half of his body, looking as if it was ripped off.
Raul and Alia could see a young man inside the scarlet beast. He walked towards Devlin, put his hands on his chest and transferred him the ability to heal which was an ability innately belonged to the vampires. It was stolen by this individual and now transferred to Devlin.
Raul clicked his tongue and then gathered as much confidence as he could. Even his heart was shaken when standing before the beast.
“Hell, I assume,” Raul spoke to the young man.
However, there was no response. It was quiet excluding the growling sounds coming from the scarlet beast covering the man.
“Brother?” Devlin barely could get the words out. “I am sorry.”
The innocent words of Devlin were heard clearly across the battlefield. It was so quiet that anyone at the place could hear their own heart beating. Hell pulled out Sword of Blood again, and heard the voice of Player Killer after so long.
Player Killer had a berating voice as he started speaking into Hell’s mind: “You haven’t contacted-”
However, Player Killer, a mighty being was cut short by Hell himself.
“Shut the f.u.c.k up,” Hell said with a grizzly voice and stabbed himself with the sword, his blood covering the weapon. There were no more sounds heard in his mind.
“If you accept your execution here, we will let your brother go,” Raul said, forcing a grin.
“You did this?” Hell’s eyes shot daggers at him, but started losing control soon after.
Hell held his head inside his hands and started shaking. Hell was barely articulate, at this point, not knowing what to do. He had never become so taken by anger. The fury burning inside him burnt so hot that he wanted to crack open his chest, just so he could cool down. He no longer had much rationality left in him.
The scarlet beast also went mad with absolute rage, smashing around as it became smaller and smaller, until it surrounded Hell as a hybrid between a full suit of armour and an unknown beast.
“Attack!” Raul gave the command. “Kill him! Kill him now!”
Low, guttural sounds were the only things escaping Hell’s mouth. Anyone that came close to him was cut into parts by his sword. Nothing seemed to be able to faze him. After killing tens of his subordinates, Raul had to step forward, in coordination with Alia.
Raul’s plan was obvious to Alia at a glance. If he was the big brother, surely, he couldn’t let his little brother be hurt. The same way they finished off Miur.
Raul from one side and Alia another, they attacked again, sure that it would be another monster that they would valiantly vanquish. However, as soon as Raul showed that his attention was turned at Devlin, Hell instantaneously appeared right before him.
A slash of inconceivable speeds was launched yet with another one of Hell’s skills and cut Raul in half. He was dead before he realised what was happening. Seeing Raul’s demise just as they would launch their attack, it caused Alia to freeze. He was dead, just like that.
Hell then appeared before Alia and raised her in the air with one hand. She crushed her windpipe and threw her body on the ground. It was an inconceivable scene. One man had attacked a battle-ready army and after killing the commanders, he started hunting the remaining members of The Blessed. He killed and killed, as much as he could.
After he was done with The Blessed, he stood there without moving, vigilant, but barely conscious. Anti-Monster Department arrived soon after that, just as Raul had suspected, with their number one field agent; Magnus Reid.
