The entire eagle team thought Wan Yi Jun might have followed Zhi Lan, but he went to the rooftop of the police headquarters.
He just wanted to go somewhere away from these suffocating thoughts inside his heart.
Letting out a sigh, he picked up a cigarette packet and took one to light it.
He has never been an ardent smoker, but sometimes, rarely does he need the help of a puff of smoke to calm the chaos in his mind.
Though he pretended not to care, he simply couldn’t stop himself from fretting over Cai Hong’s words,
To avenge Han Ze Min’s dead girlfriend?
Anyone who had met Wan Yi Jun and Han Ze Min in their childhood could easily figure out that Cai Hong was talking about Tsuki,
But the most confusing thing in her accusation was regarding the ‘girlfriend’.
When and how did Tsuki become Han Ze Min’s girlfriend? – That single question messed up his brain more than anything else.
Three of them grew up together, and obviously, the boys had feelings for the only girl in the group.
Well, truth to be told, he grew up with Tsuki and never really felt anything for her other than a friend. However, the moment Han Ze Min began to get closer to Tsuki, that was the first time he felt jealous towards his cousin.
It felt like Han Ze Min was trying to steal his precious thing, and like a green-eyed monster, he held onto Tsuki, just to make sure that his cousin never had an opportunity to confess his feelings.
It was true that both of them loved Tsuki, but unfortunately, she left this world without knowing about the feelings that bloomed in their hearts.
It was something that was buried deep in his heart, but recently everyone in his life has been hellbound on reminding him of the painful past he tried hard to forget all these years, along with his first love.
But why did Cai Hong address Tsuki as Han Ze Min’s girlfriend? Did Tsuki secretly accept his love?
“I kinda guessed that you will be here,” All of a sudden, Han Ze Min’s jovial voice pulled Wan Yi Jun from his thoughts,
Taking a long smoke, Wan Yi Jun stared deep into the starless sky without turning back to face Han Ze Min.
Obviously, he assumed that Han Ze Min came here to give him the context behind Cai Hong’s words.
After Tsuki’s death, the affection and love between the cousins got ruined beyond expectations. They grew apart within these years and fought with each other like rivals.
If it wasn’t for their family’s continuous efforts, both of them would have killed one another very long ago.
“It seems like the mister perfect Wan Yi Jun is not that perfect.” Han Ze Min smirked and casually leaned onto the rooftop’s railing as his eyes fell onto the burning cigar on Wan Yi Jun’s long fingers.
“Smoking is injurious to health, don’t you know?” He asked and snatched the cigar from the other,
“Why are you here?” Wan Yi Jun cut the chase without wasting any time. He doesn’t want to
“This man is nuts,” He muttered under his breath as he stood up from his chair to greet his superior officer.
Shen Junru, who was equally surprised to see Wan Yi Jun at the office, tilted his head and glanced at Bing Wen in confusion.
Well, Wan Yi Jun’s demeanour looked much better than before as if he took some effort to groom himself into a ‘human’
“Did he go for a date?” That was the first doubt that popped up in Shen Junru’s mind. There were no other possibilities for them to associate with a workaholic like Wan Yi Jun, leaving the office in the middle of the work.
Bing Wen who witnessed their captain’s flustered emotions during the phone call, even did some guessing, a level higher than the rest of the team and bet that Wan Yi Jun went to meet his girlfriend.
“Captian, why are you here? I thought you went home?” Shen Junru asked while hiding his surprise with an emotionless face.
“Yes, I went home. Take this,” Wan Yi Jun said something vague and extended the carry bag towards the other with a slight hue of shyness on his handsome face.
“What’s it, captain?” Shen Junru unknowingly asked as he took the bag and peeked a little inside to find some bento boxes and a huge thermos flask.
“Some dumplings and soup.” Wan Yi Jun replied while trying to hide his reddened face from his teammates. Though he has brought meals for his teammates, it was the first time he brought some food from home. “Eat it before it gets cold,”
“Captain, you are a lifesaver. I didn’t get any time to eat lunch, and I was about to faint from starvation.” Bing Wen’s widened eyes almost welled up with tears when he heard his captain’s words.
They were basically starving themselves due to the investigation procedures and Bing Wen’s day was spent in front of the computer screen, unlike other teammates who go out.
Just as Shen Junru opened the thermos flask, the enticing aroma of beef soup with herbs entered his nose, making him salivate a bit.
“We don’t have any bowls. Should I take the coffee mugs?” Bing Wen asked while glancing around the office room, unable to control his appetite.
“No need. Captain even brought bowls from home.” Shen Junru said in a slightly elevated voice and took out the small ceramic bowls from the paper bag.
Watching Shen Junru take three bento boxes and bowls from the carry bag, Wan Yi Jun couldn’t help but wonder how much effort did Ming Yue put into packing food for him.
When did she even make all of these things?
“No, I have a cook.” Even though he had a heavy meal in the afternoon, Wan Yi Jun unknowingly reached out for a dumpling from the box.
“Good lord, it seems like hospitality and affection runs in your family.” Bing Wen stated in an exhilarating tone when he recalled the coffee, which Han Ze Min bought for them in the morning.
“This is delicious.” Shen Junru, who took a sip of the hot soup, said with a wide smile as if his spirits got lifted up in a glimpse of a moment.
“This, too. It seems like your cook got magical hands.” Bing Wen said in a muffled voice as he devoured an entire dumpling in his mouth.
“Leave some for others, too.” Wan Yi Jun instructed the others as he walked towards the cubicle with a smile blooming on his lips.
Ming Yue was indeed right by packing food even if he asked her not to do so.
“Got any leads?” Wan Yi Jun asked as soon as the team members sat down for their daily briefing session.
“And that’s weird.. Because Nobody leaves a blank slate unless they have something to hide.”
