Notebook of Fortune - Chapter 51
“Xiao Jiu… That’s my place. It may not smell too good, why don’t we switch seats?” said Wang Qing arduously, not expecting to see a beautiful girl.
He certainly didn’t want such a beautiful girl to sit next to Shen Zhe!
“That’s fine. This seat is good…”
Xiao Jiu smiled using court etiquette.
“Okay…”
Wang Qing was crestfallen after his offer was declined. He shook his head and returned to his new seat.
He would have driven Shen Zhe away instead of moving to the new seat if he had known that a beautiful girl was coming. That way, the girl would’ve sat next to him…
“Silence!”
The teacher was a grave looking old man in his fifties.
“You’re about to graduate. Some of you will become real Mages and Martial Artists, and some will strive for survival, never to be known. This class, Animal Taming, was added to widen your career choices. It’s not compulsory and you only need to learn the basics.”
He was Tian Lianshan, a teacher of the Green Abyss Academy.
“Animal Taming?” Shen Zhe reared his head.
He was rather interested in how animals were tamed.
“We all know that beasts are naturally powerful. Some of them are stronger than cultivators even though they don’t have any training. That’s a talent we can only envy. However, if you can make use of their power, you will be much stronger than yourselves as individuals!”
“This is what Animal Taming is about!”
Tian Lianshan smiled and said, “It’s part of biology. To tame an animal, you have to learn their characteristics to better communicate with them…”
He elaborated on the details of beasts and how to communicate with them for ten minutes.
Shen Zhe yawned hard as he listened on.
Academic stuff didn’t appeal to him at all.
His head fell on the desk again after deciding to nap.
While he was drowsy, somebody nudged him. He frowned and saw his new classmate. The girl said in a low voice, “Don’t sleep on the desk. It’s disrespectful for the teacher!”
It did make sense. However, Shen Zhe looked around and said helplessly, “But I don’t see a bed around here…”
Xiao Jiu was stunned. “You know that’s not what I meant…”
“I’m telling you not to sleep during class, which is disrespectful. Am I asking you to lie on a bed instead?”
“I know many students with good grades prefer their own strength over external aids. They are not fans of pets. However, this class is really sophisticated and taming a strong beast can help you significantly…” said Xiao Jiu.
She had seen a lot of geniuses who were determined to become Mages or Martial Artists. Those people weren’t interested in taming or refining at all, because they never had enough time solving the questions they already had.
She thought that Shen Zhe was one of such people.
Ignoring her, Shen Zhe went to sleep again.
He was too sleepy to talk to anyone at the moment.
She wanted more time but it wasn’t possible; this guy had abundant time, yet he dedicated it to sleeping…
Xiao Jiu frowned while puzzled over the matter.
The new student was exactly Xiao Yurou, the Ninth Princess of the royal family and the best genius of the kingdom who had only three months left to live.
Despite her good grades, her body was too weak for her to illuminate the stars or to become a Body Practitioner.
At the end of her life, she intended to experience the life of an ordinary person, so she went to school under the name Xiao Jiu.
She had thought that everybody in that sanctuary would be working hard, not wasting one second. However, Shen Zhe was the first person she met…
“There are usually three approaches to tame a beast. Firstly, intimation and gratefulness…”
Mr. Tian Lianshan continued his lecture.
Seeing that Shen Zhe had fallen asleep and was even snoring, Xiao Yurou ignored him and focused on the class, although she had learned all of it when she was nine.
Soon, the class was over.
Tian Lianshan went to Shen Zhe’s seat, apparently in a foul mood.
The guy had been sleeping since the beginning of the class and never woke up even once in the next two hours. That was beyond outrageous!
“True, it’s not a compulsory class, but… you shouldn’t have snored so loudly!”
“Cough! Cough!”
Tian Lianshan coughed with the guidance book in his hand.
Hu! Hu!
Shen Zhe gave no response.
“Wake up…” Xiao Yurou poked Shen Zhe with her elbow.
“What now?”
Opening his eyes angrily, Shen Zhe froze when he was about to yawn, once he saw the teacher before him. His lips twitched as he said, “Sir…”
Would he be beaten up again?
Shen Zhe was greatly relieved after remembering that he was still wearing the leather armor.
Tian Lianshan looked at him and said, “What do you think of my class?”
“Well…” Pondering for a moment, Shen Zhe said, “It’s phenomenal, but I think it’s too short…”
“Too short for you to sleep?”
His eyelids shivering, Tian Lianshan snapped, “Fine, if you despise Animal Taming, tame any beast for me! As long as you can do that, you will be free to sleep during my classes! I can even acknowledge you as my teacher!”
“Zhi! Zhi! Zhi!”
Right then, the previously sound asleep Blue Fox woke up and craned its head from Shen Zhe’s pocket, looking at the old man in confusion.
“Is this… a Blue Fox?”
Tian Lianshan was too shocked to continue scolding.
Shen Zhe changed his face and yelled, “What are you doing? Get back inside!”
Hula!
The Blue Fox lowered its head and hid in his pocket again.
“You’ve tamed a Blue Fox?”
Tian Lianshan was rooted on the spot and almost passed out.
The Blue Fox wasn’t very strong but it was smart enough. If trained well, it might grow stronger than many beasts with great talents!
It was more difficult to tame a Blue Fox than to tame a strong beast like a Silver Lion… He had scolded Shen Zhe because he thought he knew nothing. Little did he expect that Shen Zhe was actually an expert!
Even he couldn’t have tamed a Blue Fox!
“Sir, you’re wrong…”
Shen Zhe shook his head.
“You must be kidding. I am a low-key man. How can I expose myself for such a small incident?”
“…”
“Bro, you think we’re blind and deaf?”
The fox had revealed its head and squeaked…
Tian Lianshan looked at him in confusion and then nodded his head.
The student had indeed put a lot of thought in preserving his dignity!
He just said that he would acknowledge Shen Zhe as his teacher if he could tame a beast… But Shen Zhe had truly tamed one…
Wouldn’t he be greatly humiliated if the fox was exposed?
The student had obviously taken it into consideration and intentionally denied it to save his face!
What a careful and considerate kid!
Thinking about that, he said in compliment, “You are a great student. Come to my office if you haven’t rested well. Sleeping on the bed there will be more comfortable…”
“Huh?”
“What’s going on?”
Shen Zhe was seated in the last row of the classroom; not everyone had noticed the fox. They thought that Shen Zhe would suffer from at least three slaps…
However, things didn’t turn out as they expected…
Shouldn’t teachers beat the students as a lesson for sleeping in class?
Even so, he was invited to the office where there was a bed… What was that about?
Why? Was sleeping in the classroom not comfortable enough for him?
The eyes of Ling Xueru, Cui Xiao and the other students were widely opened; they were completely astounded.
Had Mr. Tian Lianshan been possessed?
Ignoring their shock, Mr. Tian looked around and asked, “Who is the monitor of this class?”
“Me…” Ling Xueru stood up and raised her hand carefully.
“OK. Give this student full marks on Animal Taming. We must encourage such talents…”
Nodding his head in satisfaction, Tian Lianshan remembered something else and said, “Right, I remember that the last place of the school is in your class. His name is Shen Zhe… Is he here? He should learn after this student here! That way, your supervisor will have less trouble…”
“Sir…”
Raising her hand carefully again, Ling Xueru said with a shivering voice, “He… He’s exactly Shen Zhe!”
Tian Lianshan: “…”
