Number One and Rising - 3 Lunch for five
The lunch room was packed and busy as always. People following their groups and talking about class’s. Elias sat down at a table in the very back next to his class mates. He never ate the lunch here at the school and instead munched on a sandwich that he had prepared that morning. The food wasn’t bad, it was quiet the opposite. Cecilia savored a big juicy burger and everyone else was eating there respected favorites on the menu.
“Hey Elias, why do you always bring your lunch, i’m sure the food here beats lunch meat.” Elias looked at them, “I don’t like eating things that are Magically created.” He nodded at the back of the cafeteria. As they looked they could see one of the older lunch ladies outstretch her hands and food appear on a plate. Randy placed his food back on his plate, “I think Ill ask my mother to start packing some lunch for me from now on.” Everyone followed his lead placed their forks down on the plate.
It was around that time that Cecily bumped Elias’s shoulder and pointed over at a table across the Cafeteria. It was Victorian, he was looking at Elias menacingly. Elias took another bite of his sandwich and activated his magic, even if the room was crowded he could still use it accurately to find the person who he was looking for. He eyed someone from class five, a guy who has a skill called Nightmare. Elias studied his magic and after he was done replicating it he looked back at Victorian.
He activated the magic the moment their eyes locked, and he could feel the magic flow into him. Victorian got slack jawed and he got pale. The magic had taken effect and he retreated instinctively. As he was still sitting down he fell out of his chair with a yelp and landed on his back. Elias released the magic and got up from his place on the table, “Hey, since were done here let’s head to the practice field.” Everyone nodded and got up with their plates. The last thing Elias saw was Victorian on the ground being laughed at by his classmates with his two henchmen from before trying to get him up, this put a smile on his face.
The yard was a large open field littered with crags, boulders, and walls that were all set up to train students in their combat prowess. There were around ten of these fields in all spaced out so each class can have some privacy while. practicing. Around the fields were runes made to keep the students and the school safe in case of accidents, and these would regularly break out among apprentices with no battle experience.
The Students were standing together as Raleigh came out from the main building. He looked rather aggravated and stomped out. When he noticed everyone looking at him he loosened up and sighed, “Sorry i’m late, I had to deal with something.” “What was it,” Randy asked curiously. The man sighed again, “False claims, nothing for you to worry about,” he eyed Elias with Curiosity, “lets start the lesson shall we. First up, a demonstration of each of your skills. Brody your up.”
Brody took off his glasses and handed them to Randy. He walked up to one of the boulders unbuttoning his shirt with each step. He got close to the boulder and his body expanded into the buff bodybuilder from before. He eyed the boulder and he raised his fist and punched it square in the middle. A shock wave emitted from the area of contact and it blew dust every where. When the dust settle the boulder sat unscathed. Walking back to the group the boy reverted back to his self and snapped his fingers. About the time he did the boulder spit into two and rolled over on its side like he had just cut it like an apple.
As every one clapped at his showing he took his glasses from Randy and placed them back on his face. It seems that he not only Exaggerated his strength, but also his all around ‘Wow Factor’. It was a brilliant way to show off, but his strength was much more intriguing. Such power came at a cost, he could only have split that boulder in the spit second he used Exaggerate. Despite that, sometimes all you need is that one second to end a fight. Raleigh clapped, “A great showing of your power, I could not have demonstrated it better myself. But such power comes at a cost doe’s it not.” A second passed and Brody fell to the ground, and the others rushed over. “Great power comes at a cost people, hell be fine, let him nap it out. Next, Emily.”
Emily walked away from everyone to give herself space. She took a deep breath in and exhaled. Her body glowed violet and a great pair of black wings grew out of her back and flapped creating a gale that threw most of the student of there feet except for Elias and there teacher. The wings were pulled back and left to rest behind her back. She walked over to another bolder and prepared her self, the wings came out from behind her back and sliced the boulder leaving a huge X carved into it’s face. Every one clapped and she got nervous and the wings got flustered.
Next was Randy, he walked up to one of the boulders and did something Elias had not expected. As he swung at the boulder he changed the makeup of his own body. He collected with the bolder and he left an indent in it, but he wasn’t done. He dis the same thing with his other hand and continued at a fast pace. Elias could tell he was using the weight of his changed arms to gain momentum and not tire himself out. He could tell he had some training in martial arts and boxing. He even changed his legs to keep himself balanced. Panting Randy looked up at his work, he defaced the entire boulder and it’s shattered pieces scattered on the ground.
“Randy, I didn’t know you could change your own body yet.” Raleigh walked over too him and patted him on his back. He grinned, “Well it’s because I studied some Reality magics. I wondered If I could somehow mix the two. It seemed to work.” Raleigh stopped patting and looked at him, “Wait, you haven’t tested it until now. What would you plan had been if you just shattered your wrist hitting that boulder.” He got up and gave a thumbs up, “I would have played it off like it was nothing and sneak off to the infirmary.” Every one looked at him and Elias just face palmed.
Next was Cecilia, she looked at Elias and closed her eyes. She faded out of existence, different from this morning she had covered her entire image becoming completely invisible. Elias could still follow her magic, she moved to the boulder Randy had just got done with and placed wards over the surface of the boulder. She moved back to the group leading a line a magic connected to the wards. She faded back in and everyone looked at her, she was holding an imaginary detonator in her hand and she pressed it’s button, “Boom.” Red circles appeared around it each spinning wildly until they exploded in an inferno causing a huge shock wave.
This managed to knock Elias off balance, which was an accomplishment in of itself. After the dust had settled the Boulder was no more, it was scorched and crackling, huge chunks of it here and there. Everyone clapped and cheered, the blast had managed to waken Brody who was sitting upright in a daze. Raleigh looked at her and grew a great big smile, “Tremendous, outstanding, that was a brilliant display. Everyone, I bet you couldn’t tell but the war she just used was a rather simple attack ward. There made to be mines, traps, but she coupled her own abilities to use a time consuming spell in her advantage. I expect good things.”
She walked back to Elias’s side, “Hey, good job, not half bad.” She looked at him and grew red, then became invisible, “T-Thank you.” Raleigh looked at Elias, “Now, Elias your turn. I don’t believe we have ever talked about your ability in class have we. Show us what’s up.” Elias walked up to a bolder and devised a way to show them a little bit oh his true power. Everyone sat patiently as he prepared his plan, they were just as anxious as Raleigh to find out what his powers were.
