Office Diaries - Chapter 118
“I don’t mind…”
Yanee was having a sister appreciation moment so she wouldn’t mind the little things.
“Well, if you’re sure, then inform the manager that you don’t mind. I will send you your modeling fees later, okay?” Ami said and Yanee quickly protested.
“What fees are you talking about?”
“Your catalogue modeling fees,” Ami told her, her voice amused.
“I don’t need it okay?”Yanee countered but Ami laughed.
“Well, I knew you would say that and would be stubborn about it,” Ami agreed.
Just as when Yanee thought her sister would back off with payment, she realized she was wrong.
“We’ll just chalk it up to me owing you. You have a free wedding planning and events coordination that I will personally handle, okay?” Ami told her making her panic.
“What are you talking about? Who’s getting married?” she asked.
“Oooooh, little sister, did you honestly believe I didn’t know that you’ve recently harvested a potato?” Ami teased and Yanee could very much visualize how she looked like.
Evil. Evil. Evil.
Ami’s pair of devil horns, fangs, and little bat wings were out.
“What potato harvest are you talking about,” she grumbled but it was futile to deny it, she knew. After all, she was the one who told Ami about the potato when she was depressed about him.
Also, Chummy must have already told her about Tohru.
“The potato from the interview, your boss, your boyfriend, and now, your future husband,” Ami answered in a sing-song tone of voice making Yanee panic.
“What are you talking about? We just started dating yesterday,” Yanee hissed on the phone and stopped as she realized she spilled the beans.
“AHA! I knew it!” Ami gloated.
Urgh…
Evil. Evil. Evil.
“In any case, the events planning and coordination is on me, got it?” Ami reminded her seriously and Yanee didn’t have the mental strength to rebut that. “I already told the manager I will take everything you tried on today. Also, get the account number from the manager. I will wire her the fees.”
Huh?
“But you already wired me three hundred million. Why would you still wire them the money? I will pay here,” Yanee insisted.
She didn’t know what Ami’s thinking but it seemed it’s related to the business. But she already had the money with her. It’s stupid not to use it to pay. But Ami laughed.
“Don’t fret little sister. You may use the money I sent you to pay for the kimonos today. But I still need their account number since I will be ordering more from their store soon,” Ami said enigmatically but Yanee could also hear confidence in them and she realized now why.
Her sister was a hundred percent sure she’d be able to sell kimonos after the expo. Yanee couldn’t help but admire her sister’s grit again. She wondered when she’d be able to develop the same confidence as she had— not just at work but also personal relationships.
“Alright. I’ll do that,” Yanee agreed and she ended the call, but not before Ami teased her one last time before hanging up.
“We have a grilling session about potatoes when you return little sister. Be prepared.”
Urgh…
Yanee could already imagine what would happen when she returned to Tokyo. In spite of being an infamous dragon demoness, Ami was a closet romantic who drank romance web novels by the tank. It’s why she became an events planner in the first place.
Placing the phone in her pocket, she gave out a small sigh as she thought of the coming hot seat interview with Ami.
Unbeknownst to Yanee, as soon as she left to talk to Yanee, the ladies began gossiping amongst themselves.
“How was it?” Mrs. James asked and Shiori, the manager giggled like a girl.
“Ami Lee was surprisingly easy to talk to,” the manager informed them, and when they looked at her with expressions eager for gossip, she told them what they talked about.
“I offered her a discount if she could advertise out kimonos and she agreed. She would be opening an account in our store so she can order kimonos anytime and no matter how many.”
Mrs. James and Marian looked amazed.
Normally, people didn’t need to open an account as they could just pay per order. But it would be difficult on the side of the store since the authentic kimono shops were no longer that popular. Industrial ones made of cheap materials were everywhere. If the shop received orders it would take time as authentic materials plus the fees of the artisans needed to be covered. If the customer had an open account, the store could easily utilize the budget and get everything done quickly as they could buy more materials and hire more artisans.
“Oh but you took time talking to her, right?” Mrs. James asked and the manager grinned.
“Aha! It’s because I mentioned giving Yanee a bridal kimono for free for the advertisement,” the manager answered. “As it turned out Ami didn’t know her little sister has a boyfriend already and asked me about little Tohru.”
“Oh! That’s why it took so long,” Marian clapped her hands in understanding.
“Yes. I asked her also if our store can use Yanee’s pictures for our catalogue,”Shiori continued but she looked hesitant.
“Did she say yes?”
The manager this time shook her head. “She’s actually surprisingly very protective of her sister. She said she didn’t mind personally but we can’t use the photos unless Yanee agrees to it.”
“That’s sensible,” Mrs. James commented with approval.
It seemed just like she was with her children, Ami Lee also would rather not make decisions for her sister. It’s another good point for her future in-laws.
A few seconds after, Yanee emerged from the backroom to join them.
“Everything’s settled with your sister?” Marian asked and Yanee nodded with a smile.
“Manager, my sister asked me to get your account number. Also I will be paying for all the kimonos today,” she said and the staff was quick to cater to her.
In reality, as soon as the manager finished talking to Yanee, they had already started packing all the clothes that Ami requested so it didn’t take long.
“As for Yanee’s bridal kimono, just tell us a month or two in advance so we can start working on it,” Shiori whispered to Mrs. James who smiled.
“I will tell Tohru to hurry up then,” she said and they giggled like young girls again.
But when Yanee turned to them, they all stopped giggling and wore elegant expressions that made Marian burst out laughing on the side.
“What happened?” Yanee asked Marian.
“Nothing. The baby just suddenly started moving,” Marian said innocently, and the older ladies wanted to laugh again at her bȧrėfaced lie.
Babies started moving between sixteen weeks to twenty-five weeks. But even if Marian was already almost twenty weeks in her gestation, her tummy was small and she still hadn’t felt her baby move.
“Oh! Really?” Yanee looked excited as if she heard something so amazing that Marian smiled.
“Yeah, but he stopped now. I was just surprised earlier,” Marian lied again, but she was uncomfortable with it so she decided to change the subject. “Did you ask Ami about your photos?”
Yanee looked surprised at the sudden change of topic but answered nonetheless. “She said it’s up to me. If I’m not comfortable with it I don’t have to agree.”
“So what do you think?” the manager looked at her expectantly and Yanee smiled.
“I don’t mind. If you think you can use the photos then go ahead,” she said and the manager was delighted.
She quickly asked Marian to send her the photos in the backroom. Earlier, Marian both used Yanee’s phone and her own phone to take photos. But Marian’s phone had a very good quality camera on HD so the ones she had on her phone were given to the manager.
“Oh my…”
Yanee was so embarrassed as she watched the staff put her photos in their computer and looked at them. She suddenly regretted agreeing to the manager to give her photos. She wondered if she could change her mind, but seeing their enthusiastic faces, she just bit her lip and let it be. It’s not like people would recognize her anyway.
Somewhere in another part of the city, a handsome young man sat behind a huge desk in his office. A soft smile curved his lips as he browsed through his phone. Earlier his sister sent him many photos of his honey wearing different bridal kimonos that tickled his heart. He grew up in the United States and didn’t really have any religion.
He wondered now if he’d have a western type of wedding with Yanee when they got married or just have a Shinto one even if he didn’t practice the religion since she totally looked awesome in the bridal kimonos.
Ah…
Because they were supposed to be reporting something and their boss totally forgot that they’re in the middle of work.
