Office Diaries - Chapter 133
“Grandma! Grandpa!” Sam squealed as he jumped out of the car and threw himself in his grandparents’ waiting embrace.
It was already nine in the evening and they all had just returned to the place after having a meal outside. It was the first time they would be staying long with the new in laws’ place and the young boy hadn’t stopped asking questions, totally excited about the whole thing. Sam had always loved the elderly couple who treated him like their real grandson when they first met him years ago. Now that they really became his grandparents, the boy was very delighted and couldn’t wait to arrive at their house to see them.
“Sammy!” the obviously doting grandparents squealed back as they caught the active boy in their arms.
“My, our baby boy has grown!” Mrs. So exclaimed as she lifted Sam up and planted a kiss on his cheek.
“Grandma!” The boy did the same much to his grandparent’s delight.
“Hey, hey, it’s my turn,” Mr. So said as he eagerly took Sam from his wife.
Like he did to his grandmother, the boy planted a kiss on his grandfather’s cheek and gave him a hug.
“Oh, our Sammy’s become heavier!” the old man crowed with pride as he shifted his grandson in his arms so he could look at his face. “Did you follow grandpa’s advice and ate a lot?”
“I’m a big boy now grandpa,” Sammy announced proudly.
“Ah, yes you are. That’s why you should go down now. Grandpa might be having difficulty carrying you,” Jena buŧŧed in worriedly as she and Alvin joined the group.
“I can carry him just fine,” Mr. So stated with a grin as he saw her.
“Jena!” Mrs. So said as she enveloped Jena in a hug.
“How are you ma’am?” the latter asked shyly and Mrs. So tapped her arm affectionately.
“It’s mom now right?” she said with a grin making her new daughter-in-law blush.
“Hey, what? No welcome kisses or hugs for me?” Alvin complained with a pout, frowning at his parents, and his father snorted as the old man eyed the possessive hand his son had placed permanently on Jena’s hip.
“We’ll do that son when you’ve stopped molesting your fiancée in front of us long enough for us to give you a proper welcome.”
“Dad!” Alvin whɨnėd, a little shocked but laughed as he watched Jena’s face turn red like an overripe tomato. “Don’t mind my dad. He could be a little scandalous when he wants…”
“Oh phooey, Jena already knew that right?” Mr. So grinned as he put Sam down on the floor and opened his arms wide in a welcome.
“Welcome to the family at last,” the old man said happily and Jena hugged him in return.
The old president and his wife had been nothing but good to her and her son in years and now they’re family— well, almost.
“Thank you sir,” she answered and the old man shook his head.
“It’s Papa or dad now, just as what that bloke calls me,” the old president said as he pointed at his son who was not able to do anything but scratch his head and crouch to pick Sam up.
“Will my other grandma and grandpa and my aunties come too?” the boy asked and Alvin nodded.
“Yep! Tomorrow before the ceremony,” he answered making the boy smile.
He and Jena would wed tomorrow and the couple had chosen Alvin’s parents’ huge residence as the venue. The ceremony would take place in the garden and the reception would be inside the house. Jena didn’t want an extravagant celebration and Alvin was just willing to follow whatever she wanted.
The old couple had other ideas, however. With Alvin being the president of a huge company and everything, they had coerced the couple into inviting important business colleagues and acquaintances. In the end, the wedding would have a rough estimate of three hundred attendees on Alvin’s side alone.
Jena, on the other hand, didn’t have that many people she was close to and so she just invited her immediate relatives consisting of her parents and three siblings.
“Jena, are you sure you don’t want to add more to the guest list?” Mrs. So asked worriedly and she smiled at her as she nodded.
“Yes ma— mom,” she answered shyly, the word ‘mom’ pertaining to the old president’s wife still alien to her lips but her effort obviously pleased the elder woman.
“Okay, I will update the caterers,” she said as she excused herself to hurry towards the telephone.
It was Mrs. So who volunteered to coordinate the wedding and she’d been on it since the day her son and Jena got engaged a week ago.
“Let’s get inside and have you take your rest already,” Mr. So said as he ushered the three in the mansion.
The old couple insisted on putting Sam to bed, shooing the couple away and so Alvin and Jena were forced to go to their room to rest for the night.
“Are you okay?” Alvin asked as he stepped out of the shower.
He had nothing on except for the skimpy towel wrapped around his narrow hɨps, and a smaller one he used to dry his hair. They were given his old room and Jena was currently sitting on the side of the huge bed staring out into space.
Studying her profile, Alvin couldn’t help but be overwhelmed by her beauty yet again. Even after eight years, the effect she had on him hadn’t changed. He was still as awestruck and as love struck as he was that night on the dance floor.
“Jena?” he called again, this time as he placed a hand on her shoulder.
“Are you okay?” he asked once again and watched as an array of emotions crossed his fiancée’s face.
“Sorry…I was just thinking,” she answered shyly upon seeing his state of undress as he sat next to her.
“Is it too much to hope that you’re thinking about me?” the young president teased making the other turn crimson and he couldn’t help but feel happy. “So, you were thinking about me,” he stated smugly and Jena tapped his arm in annoyance.
“I’m thinking about you and your family!” she protested and Alvin smilingly pulled her against him.
“You mean our family?” he corrected her softly and he smiled against the top of her head when she nodded.
“You have very nice parents. Sam and I are so lucky,” she whispered fondly, thinking of the old president and his wife as she snuggled against him.
Her future husband’s skin felt cool against her cheek.
“You have nice parents too— and nice siblings!” Alvin countered smilingly as he remembered the time he visited her family five days ago and the Wangs all fussed over him like mother hens, delighted with the new addition to the family.
The young president had the time of his life being doted on in return. “They called me handsome,” he said smugly and he was rewarded by a playful slap on the ċhėst.
“Don’t let those words get into your head,” she scolded just as he shifted on the bed. “Let’s sleep. It’s a busy day tomorrow,” she reminded her husband-to-be as she lay on the cushions and covered herself from head to toe.
Alvin grinned at his totally wrapped up bride, finding her shyness very cute. He had an idea that she worrying over sleeping together since this was the first time they would since he pushed her into marriage.
Yes, when Jena said she’d let him into hers and Sam’s lives, Alvin didn’t waste time on just being in a relationship. He had coerced her into agreeing to marry him in a matter of two weeks.
His logic? Why waste time in courtship when they could be spending those times married already? He knew he was really pushing his luck and thank God that she loved his parents. They really played a big role in her decision.
Anyway, during those two weeks that they formally dated until a week ago when they got engaged, he had been a true gentleman. Even though he was dying to make love to her, he had controlled himself and made do with those kisses they shared.
With a sigh, he stood up and got himself dressed. There’s no need to keep her awake, thinking he’d ravish her in the middle of the night if he’d sleep like usual: nȧkėd.
Having dressed in his pajamas, well, just the bottom at least, he joined his fiancée on the bed and gathered her in his arms. With her resting on his shoulder, his arm wrapped around her waist, he whispered a silent goodnight against her ears as he closed his eyes to sleep.
“Good night Mrs. So…”
