Office Diaries - Chapter 134
In the wee hours of the morning, Jena opened her eyes and saw darkness saved for the moonlight coming from the open window. The weight on her hip startled her awake until she remembered where she was and who she was with and she relaxed. The hand on her hip snaked around her abdomen, and if it was possible, Alvin pulled her closer against him.
Tickled by her husband-to-be’s breath on her nape, she shifted on the bed as she turned around to face the sleeping man. The soft light played on his handsome face and she couldn’t help but stare.
In sleep, Alvin looked more youthful, and yet the powerful aura his body exuded remained. Curiously, she reached out a hand and felt the surface of his ċhėst. It was hard and yet smooth to the touch.
Getting bolder, her hand travelled to his face, studying his features up close for the first time. She was forever shy with the young president that she’d never really taken the time to study his face. She took note of his closed upturned eyes, his long dark lashes, his nose, and full lips.
“Huh?” Jena frowned at the sudden familiarity and similarity of his features to someone but she couldn’t pinpoint with whom.
When her fiancé pouted in his sleep, her breath caught in her throat.
Sam. He looked similar to Sam.
“But…” she was confused, and then she remembered the time when they went to visit her family days ago.
One of her sisters dragged her to the kitchen for a tête-à-tête. She had thought that Alvin was Sam’s father because of their resemblance but Jena denied it, of course.
“I’m glad it worked out for you and Sammy’s father,” her big sis had said.
When she told her that it wasn’t the case, she did not believe her.
“It’s okay Jena. We understand why you still want to keep it from our parents. But just so you know, you can’t hide it for long with him and Sammy looking so alike,” her sister continued which made Jena perplexed but didn’t ponder on the matter as the wedding preparations kept them busy.
Now however, now that she was looking closely at her future husband’s face, she could indeed see the resemblance between him and Sam— and what a resemblance it was! The two looked more like father and son than Jena and Sammy were mother and child.
“What’s this?” Jena couldn’t help but wonder if fate was playing a joke on her or whether it was a gift.
With Alvin and Sammy looking alike, her son wouldn’t have to answer unwanted questions about his parents. At Alvin’s insistence, Sam would change his last name to So, and their son as her future husband said would be transferred to Alvin’s old school, the best elementary school in the country.
She was still contemplating on it when a hand clamped over hers, holding it against a hard ċhėst, trapping it there.
“I know I look totally hot. But if you continue touching me like that Mrs. So, I don’t think I can control myself and you won’t be able to stand long enough to attend our wedding,” Alvin whispered with a devilish grin and she slapped his ċhėst once more as she pouted.
“Sleep!” she ordered sternly but she snuggled close to Alvin anyway when the other pulled her close. It felt so comfortable in his arms that she found herself drifting off to sleep once more.
Tomorrow, she’d just think about things tomorrow.
The next time she woke up, it was already seven in the morning and Alvin was no longer in bed. She looked disoriented as her eyes scanned the area around her, trying to figure out where she was. When at last she finally, remembered what’s going on, she bolted out of the bed towards the bathroom and prepared for the day.
The ceremony was in the afternoon, but things were already a whirlwind of activities from the moments she stepped out of the room. The people Mrs. So ȧssigned to ȧssist her on her wedding ceremony preparations arrived on time. Since everything was already taken good care of, all she had to do was cooperate and by afternoon, she looked like a blushing bride that made people smile when they saw her.
The wedding ceremony wasn’t anything but magical. In the middle of the huge garden which flourished under the bright summer sky, a dais was erected for the couple. Alvin and Jena stood on the decorated platform along with the minister and Sam who stood as their best man and ring bearer remained by his new father’s side. Everyone who bore witness to their exchange of vows was touched, their eyes suspiciously moist as they continued to watch as the couple exchanged vows and rings.
“I pronounce you man and wife. You may now seal your vows with a kiss,” the minister prompted and everyone stood from their seats as they clapped.
“Oh,” Mrs. So sobbed and her husband patted her shoulder just as the newly wedded couple kissed.
Knowing their whole story from their son, she had been worried and shocked that such thing could happen, and yet if it hadn’t, they wouldn’t have their cute grandson. Now that the two were married, she was so deliriously happy and relieved that finally, his son was able to claim his family. All that’s left to do was for Alvin to tell Jena the truth and she hoped that it would go well. Based on her intuition and the obvious affection her daughter-in-law showed these past few weeks, she knew Jena loved Alvin too.
“Here,” Jena’s eldest sister handed Mrs. So a box of tissue. She too looked like she had shed some tears and the older lady was grateful for the offer. “Everything will be alright,” she continued kindly. “What’s important is that Sam finally has his real father with him,” she added which shocked the older woman.
“You know about it?” the old lady whispered cautiously and Jena’s older sister nodded as she smiled.
“It’s pretty obvious. I don’t know why my sister still denies it though,” she added thoughtfully and Mrs. So touched her arm as she whispered.
“Actually, your sister really doesn’t know,” Mrs. So said making the elder Wang shocked. “Come here, I will tell you,” the older woman said as she guided Jena’s sister from the garden to somewhere private.
On the other side of the garden during the reception, the newly wedded couple stood side by side.
“Are you hungry?”
The two of them had been walking around, stopping from one table to another since their wedding ceremony a couple of hours ago.
For Jena, those two hours felt like eons. Her mind whirled with new faces and tons of names to memorize. Since they couldn’t very well ignore their guests, she was forced to circulate and would continue to do so until they reached the last table.
She couldn’t understand. She thought there would only be three hundred or so guests but the throng felt like thousands in numbers. She was hungry, thirsty, and her feet hurt that it was hard to walk properly.
“Yeah. My feet hurt too,” she whispered with a pout and she mentally kicked herself for acting like a whiny wife just two hours after the wedding.
Alvin didn’t seem to mind, though. He found his wife’s complaining cute.
“Wait here, I’ll get you some drinks,” the dedicated groom said as he left her to get some refreshments.
Jena watched her husband and admired his broad back as he made his way to the buffet table. She smiled as he got sidetracked and cornered by well-wishers and chuckled at his attempt at escaping them.
Alvin was about to reach the table when Sam caught him and asked to be lifted. It seemed Jena’s baby boy already had enough of the party and was demanding his share of time with his new father.
Alvin glanced at her apologetically and Jena answered him with a grin. The man and child truly looked good together. Sam clearly adored Alvin and Jena most certainly adored her new husband too. She had no regrets on marrying him. She was in the midst of staring at them when a voice sounded nearby.
“Hi!”
Jena turned to her left, a shy smile plastered on her face at the group of strangers standing there.
“Hi,” she greeted back, her eyes inquiring, waiting for the strangers to introduce themselves.
“We’re Alvin’s friends from college,” one of the strangers said as he extended his hand for her to shake. “Sorry we’re late. But that meanie husband of yours told us about your wedding only last night,” he continued with an easy smile though his tone was that of scandalized and the others joined him in complaining against Alvin in a teasing way.
Jena decided then and there that she liked her husband’s friends. They were all funny. Each one of them introduced himself and herself to her and Jena tried her best to memorize their names as she had a feeling she would be meeting them often now that she’s married to Alvin.
