Office Diaries - Chapter 143
“Yes, they do!”
Yanee and Jena turned towards the door to see a smiling Nixie standing there.
“You’re here!” Jena called out in delight as she shifted on the bed.
Nixie hurried towards her as she scolded the patient. “Don’t move! You don’t want to strain your leg too much, no?”
Yanee had also left her seat to try and restrain Jena from standing up on her own. Jena smiled sheepishly and let Nixie and Yanee tuck her back to bed.
“You two worry too much. I’m not that fragile, you know,” she teased and Nixie rolled her eyes.
“Say that to your husband. Can you imagine what Alvin would do when he learns you have to stay here at the hospital longer because you strained yourself too much?” Nixie prompted and Jena smiled sheepishly imagining just that.
In spite of his easy-going and dignified demeanor, Alvin was King, not just of the dance floor but of worrywarts. Based on the women’s looks, Yanee already had an idea of what was going on and she chuckled.
“Alvin’s that bad, huh?” she asked teasingly and the women grinned mischievously at her as if they knew something that she didn’t. “What’s wrong?”
“Tohru’s worse than Alvin, you know,” they said and Yanee looked shocked.
“Really?”
She couldn’t believe it. Tohru didn’t look like it. But both Nixie and Jena nodded so it must be true.
“You better not get sick or you’re in for a ride,” Jena warned her with a giggle and Yanee smiled sheepishly.
So, he’s a panic potato…
Yanee didn’t want to see that.
“Anyway, do you have questions you want to ask me?” Jena asked her and Yanee inclined her head.
“Normally, we discuss life lessons from the story,” she answered and Jena smiled.
“Right. Little Tohru did tell us that,” Nixie agreed as she walked across the room to sit on the sofa. “Go ahead and continue your chat hehe,” she said as she took a magazine from the side and started browsing.
“Ah but the little brother said he will do that with her later,” Jena suddenly interjected surprising both Nixie and Yanee.
“He did?”Yanee was confused. Since her second interview, she had been discussing the life lessons with them. She was wondering what changed now when Jena put on another mischievous smile.
“Yes, because the original Panic Prince is worried Yanee will overwork so he made some changes this time,” Jena answered and Nixie giggled.
“Ah! He’s a sweet potato then,” she said surprising Yanee.
“Potato?”
“What? Isn’t that the nickname you gave him?” Nixie teased and laughed making Yanee groan.
She should have known the girls would gossip about that. But, she didn’t really care anymore.
“Alright, we’ll stop teasing Yanee now,” Jena told Nixie as she waved her hand. Go and take Yanee to the cafeteria or the garden. There’s a spot that’s quiet there for your interview.”
“What about you?”Yanee asked Jena who shrugged.
“The doctor and the nurses will come soon to give me a check— and lunch.”
Jena said the last part whilst wiggling her brows. Aside from her broken leg, the hospital found that her sodium level was high so she’s on a very strict diet. For someone who loved eating, this was a very pitiful thing done to her, and this was also why Jena preferred to have lunch alone. If they ate with her, she’d cry over jealousy when she saw what they ate.
Understanding her plight, Nixie laughed and stood up. “Fine, we’ll take our leave. We’ll be back after,” she said and she and Yanee left the room.
Yanee placed the recorder in her bag as she and Nixie trudged the length of the hallway. “Wow, this was probably the fastest interview I did. I just basically listened to Jena and didn’t get to discuss anything.”
Nixie laughed. “Scold your boyfriend later for worrying too much,” she said and Yanee too laughed
“I will do that, later,”Yanee promised and the two of them chuckled as they went to the hospital restaurant.
The hospital had a cafeteria as well as many different restaurants and cafes within in the building for the visitors and workers. The two of them went to a bit high end one so that it was not as crowded. It was almost lunch time so the restaurants which were more family friendly tended to be flooded.
“You must be wondering why I suddenly appeared here,” Nixie said as soon as they both placed their order.
Yanee shook her head. “Since meeting your group who were all busy bees, I’m no longer surprised with sudden changes,” she answered with a smile.
“That’s right!” Nixie clapped her hands. “Most especially us,” she added with a helpless smirk.
Yanee grinned at her. Among all the couples in the group, Nixie and Jason were the ones who traveled the most. Why?
“Jason has a concert here in Seoul?” she asked and Nixie sighed.
Jason Tan a.k.a JT, was one huge Asian superstar. He was an actor, singer, and model that traveled all over the globe. Since getting married, he took his wife who worked as his ȧssistant with him everywhere.
“Yeah. It was a last-minute thing. It’s for charity. The agent suddenly contacted us and he agreed. After all, he’s half Korean and he grew up here,” Nixie said. “We arrived yesterday and today’s the rehearsal so I have time to come here.”
Yanee nodded. “I see. It’s a good thing you’re able to find time too. I reckon since Jason took another event you’ll have difficulty finding free time soon.”
“Yeah, and you don’t have a lot of time too. You need to finish all the interviews as soon as possible so you can start writing if you’re going to join the AI Awards.”
At Nixie’s reminder, Yanee blanched and the former laughed.
“Trust the little brother to give you something so challenging, right?” Nixie giggled in between bites and Yanee agreed.
“It was a shocker. It’s my first time writing a book but,” she said with a shrug. “I’ve resigned to fate and will just do my best.”
“Good, good,” Nixie murmured her approval with a thumbs up. “It’s good to have a fighting spirit. It doesn’t matter whether you have prior experience or not.”
Yanee nodded. “It’s what my sister said too. In any case, this is a huge experience that I am learning a lot from. It’s rare for anyone to have the same opportunity so I will make sure not to waste it.”
Nixie nodded. “On that note, you’ve already done five interviews. In all of them, the girls worked for their husbands as their bosses, right?” she asked and Yanee nodded.
Yunjae and Jinho, Ashley and Alex, Marian and Liam, Ria and Michael, and the previous couple she interviewed, Jena and Alvin. All women worked as their husbands’ former secretaries, ȧssistants, or subordinates.
“But Jason and I, we’re a bit different. In a way, he’s my boss since I needed to cater to him. But technically, we’re business partners. He was my company’s endorser.”
“Oh…” Yanee’s eyes rounded as her hand reached out and placed the recorder on the table.
“Yeah. My company was just a baby compared to other corporations out there. We’re producing mobile phones and to pull sales in the very saturated market, we needed a very effective endorser,” Nixie explained.
“Oh, so you found Jason for that,” Yanee commented and Nixie chuckled.
“Well, our company literally begged for an audience. There were so many companies who were after him, you know? It was a tough fight. We bȧrėly able to secure an audience with him— actually, we got the chance by accident. As you know, it’s totally difficult to have an appointment with Jason. Even the big companies had to tread carefully around him.”
Accident?
Yanee wondered what kind of accident that was but she remained quiet. She had to agree that the difficulty level in securing an appointment with him was high. Jason rarely entertained endorsements during those times since he was in the middle of a world tour if she could remember the timeline well.
“My boss sneaked into the restaurant where Jason was having dinner, and he basically just breezed in the private room where he was and shamelessly handed my husband our proposal,” Nixie said as she giggled.
“Your boss sounded desperate,” Yanee commented as she imagined an old guy doing just that. “I wonder if he got thrown out by security or something.”
Nixie laughed out loud then. “He did! Well, almost,” she corrected herself. “When he handed the proposal to him, he saw the names of the people involved so he stopped his security from dragging my boss out and asked him some questions. The next thing we knew, our boss successfully secured an appointment with him the next day.”
“Wow,” Yanee was amazed that the technique worked.
“Surprising, right?” Nixie prompted and when Yanee nodded, she grinned as she leaned forward to whisper to her. “The most shocking was when did have the meeting, Jason seemed to have the hots for me instantly,” she added before laughing as if what she said was a big joke.
Yanee couldn’t see what’s funny about that though. After all, like the other ladies in the group, Nixie looked like a model or an actress herself with her beauty. It’s not surprising that Jason would fall for her at first sight.
“Oh, you must be confused, right?”Nixie asked, and when Yanee nodded, she took her phone and searched something from her gallery before showing it to Yanee who was surprised.
Yanee stared at a text-book photo of a nerd. Even the Dora haircut was so pitiful she wanted to fix it right at this moment. But why was Nixie showing this photo to her? Then it dawned on her. When she lifted her eyes from the picture to look at Nixie’s face, there was confirmation in the glint of her eyes.
“This was you?”
