Office Diaries - Chapter 148
“I can just imagine. You’ve bottled things up inside far too long,” Yanee commented.
“Much longer than I should have,” Nixie agreed.
Nixie used to be the type who didn’t really voice out her thoughts because she feared being alienated from her peers. But she realized that she shouldn’t have minded other people at all.
“Do you know what the lesson in the story is?” she asked with a smile.
“Oh, we’re doing that?” Yanee was surprised. She and Jena didn’t discuss life lessons after all.
Nixie nodded and laughed. “I was ordered by the little brother to ask you.”
“Really?”Yanee wondered why.
“Yes. He said it’s important that we discuss this before you return to Tokyo,” Nixie informed her with a teasing look. “The potato made it sound like a desperate lesson,” she added making Yanee pout.
But the truth was, she really didn’t mind. In any case, she had nothing else to do since it’s still early and the story was very short. Since the potato asked her to discuss the story then there’s no issue. In fact, it’s better.
“So? So? So?” Nixie prompted excitedly.
Yanee couldn’t help but smile. By now, the two of them had finished their meal and were now enjoying their dessert and coffee. She inclined her head and thought for a while.
“Don’t judge a person based on looks. Don’t say bad things to other people when you have your own faults.”
Also, trusting was still hard to do, Yanee thought but didn’t say it audibly. It’s the same as all the other stories. Trusting was difficult when someone had a bad experience.
“Anything else?” Nixie prompted again and Yanee shook her head.
Aside from those two she mentioned and the one she didn’t, she couldn’t think of anything else. But the way Nixie looked at her told her that there was something obvious that she missed and she couldn’t help but try and analyze the story again in her head as she searched for the missing answer.
But alas, she couldn’t come up with something.
“Did I really miss something big?” she asked Nixie who finally couldn’t help but chuckle as she shook her head.
She waved her hand again as if asking Yanee to relax before she spoke.
“Actually, it’s still related to the first thing that you already mentioned,” she told her, and Yanee’s brows arched.
“Don’t judge a person based on looks?” she asked.
She was a bit confused as she also couldn’t think of anything related to it other than the second one she already mentioned. She kept quiet as she waited for the other one to continue talking.
“I said it’s related to the first lesson you mentioned because it goes other ways as well. Instead of saying ‘don’t judge a person,’ just simply say ‘don’t judge’— period.” Nixie lifted her eyes from her coffee cup to stare at Yanee’s face. “That includes judging yourself.”
HUH?
“Myself?”
Yanee was taken aback. She was not expecting that. But now that it was mentioned, it was indeed also the case. When Nixie met JT, she was a total nerdy woman. She declined his love because she deemed herself unworthy of him…
HUH?
Yanee was startled once again as she realized something.
Wait a minute…
Her eyes widened at Nixie who remained studying her face with a knowing smile on her lips. “Did you understand it now?” she asked and Yanee’s surprised expression slowly turned into a warm one as she remembered someone.
It was that time when she was still in Kyoto with Tohru and she was distracted when she saw their reflection on the glass window they passed by. She felt so insecure back then since he was so handsome. But he erased her bad thoughts with his words.
“Honey, your skin is so beautiful. I may look lighter but you… you glow. Chummy said you had issues with your skin color, but to me, you’re so beautiful…”
“Do you understand now why the little brother asked me to discuss this life lesson with you?” Nixie asked teasingly and Yanee chuckled as she nodded.
It was for her. It was to remind her that regardless of what she thought of herself, she was genuinely loved and that she shouldn’t demean herself.
“Ah… the rainbows and roses of youth…” Nixie commented exaggeratedly making Yanee blush and glare at her.
“Don’t talk like an old lady,” she scolded Nixie jokingly.
The other was only a couple of years older than her. But Nixie looked like she hadn’t had enough having fun yet so she quickly changed the topic.
“By the way, what happened to Han?” she asked.
Nixie pouted, realizing that she wanted to change the topic and she gave her a pout back.
“I’m curious, okay? I mean he ended up being your husband’s manager. I mean he’s your first love and all. Didn’t it feel awkward after that reunion?” Yanee asked.
Well, she was not really lying when she said that she was curious. It was a very awkward situation in her opinion. Nixie confessed to Han when they were younger. JT was pursuing her. But his manager ended up being the person who rejected her.
Hearing her question, Nixie giggled as if she heard a big joke she was the only one privy too, and Yanee’s curiosity became bigger.
“What happened? Did JT find out? Was there any jealousy?”
Yanee sounded like a paparazzi but she was really curious. Nixie laughed at her expression but she didn’t care. She wanted her answers.
“What do you think happened?” Nixie asked her and Yanee wanted to pull her hair.
“Big Sis, don’t kill me. You always ask me these little questions when you already know I’m dying to know the answer,”Yanee confessed, looking all pitiful so that the other wouldn’t leave her hanging for long.
This made Nixie laugh more.
“Well, as you already guessed, of course there’s jealousy,” Nixie answered, confirming Yanee’s guess. “But it’s not really what you think it was.”
HUH?
“JT was not jealous of Han?” she asked and Nixie grinned as she continued her story.
