Office Diaries - Chapter 156

The flight from Seoul to Tokyo early next morning came and Yanee couldn’t even remember much of it. One was because it only took an hour of travel, two was because she was thinking so many happy thoughts— bubbling with it that she didn’t realize the plane had already landed until she felt the plane stop.

Why?

Yanee smiled as she took out her phone and looked at the photo Jisoo sent to everyone last night. It was a photo of a teary-eyed Yushin posing with a smiling Jisoo as they both held the ultrasound of their baby.

It seemed that when Jisoo returned from her hotel room yesterday afternoon, she had sneaked behind her unknowing husband as he prepared for the function. But as soon as Jisoo showed him her laboratory report, the shocked daddy-to-be picked up his wife and rushed her to the hospital for an impromptu scan. They both never attended the function in the end.

And then they took this lovely photo afterwards…

Yanee was so touched. She appreciated men who could look this happy that he cried upon learning that he was going to be a father. It was heartwarming.

Still smiling, Yanee stood up to take her small luggage from the overhead compartment and marched out of the plane with the other passengers. As soon as she stepped out of the immigration, the phone she carried in her hand rang and she smiled.

“You’re just in time,” she told the person with a smile.

There was no one else who’d call her at this time except for the potato.

“Of course, I’ve actually been here since two hours ago,” Tohru answered with a laugh.

Eh? Two hours ago?

“Aren’t you excited?” she retorted, sounding torn between laughing and shaking her head in disbelief.

“Of course. I’m picking up my honey so I have to be early so I can see you earlier,” was his greasy reply.

Yanee finally laughed while shaking her head. Did he think that by coming early, the plane would arrive earlier? This guy was hopeless. But she knew he was just sweet-talking her. This type of talk was still up to her whether to buy it or not.

Of course she’s definitely buying it, though.

“I’ll be out soon,” she told him, and sure enough, she was out with her bag in tow. “Hey there!” she called out as she ended the call and slipped her phone in the pocket of her vest.

Tohru James stood several feet away from her, but they were fast closing the distance as he welcomed her.

“Hey,”he greeted back as he reached her and quickly lowered his head to give her a peck on the lips without warning before hurrying to step bag lest she hit him which she did.

“Y-You…” Shocked, Yanee looked around and saw some people giggling at them and she let out a frustrated sigh.

“Don’t be mad, honey,” he apologized cutely, earning him a glare.

“Why not? This is Japan!” People didn’t do PDA there!

Tohru laughed at her troubled expression and squeezed her arm. “Relax, honey; we totally don’t look like Japanese. What’s wrong with kissing foreigners?”

Well, it’s true that the two of them didn’t look local. Yanee looked more Polynesian, while Tohru had more of his father than his mother in him. With his coloring alone, nobody would mistake him for a Japanese man.

“I don’t care,”Yanee murmured as she pinched him on his side.

Tohru grunted but didn’t complain anymore as he led her towards his car. Instead of going to the office, this time, Tohru drove her to the apartment she shared with Ami. Yanee was no longer surprised that he knew. Considering everything that she learned about him from the sisters, and from the snippets of confessions from this guy, she already had an idea that he knew everything about her.

���Come on up,”Yanee invited as they reached the place.

Normally, she didn’t need to invite him over. This potato was thick enough to invite himself up to her apartment so she did it to save the frustration. In any case, it’s still early in the morning and Ami was still there.

Or so she thought.

Yanee and Tohru arrived at an empty apartment.

“Er… Sit there first,” she told him indicating the sofa.

Tohru miraculously followed without complaints as she put her back in her room and called her sister.

“Yep?”Ami answered after three rings.

“Where are you?” Yanee asked.

She usually knew her sister’s schedule unless there was an emergency. She was right.

“I’m at the hospital,”Ami answered but before Yanee retort in panic, she interrupted her. “It’s not me. I’m not the patient. There’s just a bit of an accident at one of the venues and one of the staff got injured so I’m with him now,” she explained, and Yanee was relieved.

Oh…

Yanee was no longer surprised that she was gone. Usually, when they had an event, they started setting up the venue the day before the event of very early in the morning of the event.

“Alright. Do you need anything?”

“Yes. I forgot my wallet! I was going to call my ȧssistant to go to there to pick it up but she’s at another venue now and can’t do it for another hour. I’m already starving. I haven’t had breakfast yet,” Ami answered and Yanee quickly agreed.

She ended the call, took her sister’s purse in her bedroom and returned to the living room where Tohru remained seated as he scrolled his emails on his phone.

“Is there a problem with your sister?” he asked.

Yanee was aware he might have heard snippets of her conversation with Ami and she explained to him what happened.

“Let’s go then. I’ll take you there,” he offered, and Yanee thanked him as they walked back to the parking lot.

“Are you not tired?” he asked as they drove to the hospital where Ami was.

Yanee shook her head. “Not really. I slept early last night. In any case, I will rest early today too so I can start working on my notes tomorrow.”

“If you’re sure,”Tohru commented and they rested in silence until they reached the hospital. “Have you eaten?” he asked as they got out of the car.

Yanee nodded. “A bit. I had an early breakfast on the plane but I feel a bit hungry now.”

“If your sister still hasn’t had breakfast, let’s take her somewhere to eat,”Tohru invited and Yanee inclined her head as if thinking.

“Are you sure? You won’t be able to eat though. She’d bombard you with questions,” she warned and Tohru grinned as if he didn’t mind the challenge.

“Let her ask her questions,” he said confidently.

Yanee just shook her head with a smile. In reality, she was a bit nervous since it would be the first time Tohru would meet her sister. Ami was very protective of her since that incident with her ex and she worried that her sister would be a bit antagonistic towards him.

Then again, she thought that it’s a good idea to let them meet each other since Ami already knew about him. She had no plans to hide him from her family and would introduce him to her folks just as he introduced her to his family. To let him see Ami in advance was actually good so she had someone backing her when she brought Tohru to meet her parents in the future.

Yanee inquired about the directions to the ward from the nurse’s station before proceeding towards the elevator.

“You keep asking about me, how about you?”Yanee suddenly asked Tohru as soon as the door to the elevator closed and they moved up.

“I’m okay. Dad will return to work next week so I won’t be as busy,” he answered reassuringly with a smile.

“Has he rested enough?”Yanee asked. She knew the family asked the older James to take a longer vacation when he got sick so he could rest enough.

“Yeah. He’s a workaholic. Staying at home doing nothing stressed him more,” Tohru answered with a helpless chuckle. “But don’t worry; he won’t be doing a lot of things at work. I already arranged additional ȧssistants for him.”

“That’s good,”Yanee agreed just as the door opened and they stepped out of the lift.

As soon as they did, one of the doors of the rooms opened and Ami stepped out. Tohru’s and Yanee’s eyes immediately caught sight of her. It was hard to miss her actually considering that even if she was a shortie, she was the only one who sported a messy bun of blue hair that they saw. Tohru was even amused as the rumored dragon lady was wearing a sleeveless Hello Kitty shirt and shorts.

“Sis!” Yanee called out and Ami quickly looked in their direction.

“Hey!” Ami brightened up upon seeing Yanee, but both Yanee and Tohru almost spat out as her smile quickly dropped and her nose flared upon seeing Tohru with her.

This quickly removed the cute impression of her as she released her intimidating aura towards him that even Tohru’s steps faltered a little.

Yup, she was a dragon lady sister-in-law.
