Office Diaries - Chapter 164
“Tohru James? Like the Tohru James?” Mrs. Lee asked wide-eyed.
Er… Yanee was not sure about “the” Tohru James thing but she nodded anyway.
“Oh my…” Mr. and Mrs. Lee exchanged looks of wonder and Yanee felt like there was something weird about it.
“What’s going on?” she asked.
Her parents totally looked like they discovered something so shocking that she became curious. Tohru mentioned meeting them at a party two years ago. But he didn’t tell more details so she had no idea if they had more connection than being at the same place, invited at an event by the same host.
“What’s going on?”Mr. Lee snorted. “That’s what we’d like to know too! Who’d believe Niji would send their superstar to a smaller company without anything in it? Something must be brewing.”
Er…
Yanee and Chummy exchanged looks with the latter’s lips twitching as she tried her best not to smile. Yanee glared at her to make sure she wouldn’t although she too was having a hard time controlling her expression.
Who would have thought that her father had a very sharp sense to realize these little things? But of course, he’s also a good businessman. It’s a prerequisite to have a good sense. Something must be brewing? Of course, there’s something. Yanee was that “something”. However, she was still unsure how to open the topic. She opened and closed her mouth several times trying to say something but couldn’t come up with anything.
“Well,” Chummy suddenly began and everyone’s attention was on her.
Yanee felt nervous too. What if she said something wrong?
“Our company is small but it’s actually good and we’re doing well except for the literary department. It’s actually doing badly. Since Niji took over, they probably sent their top dog to do overhaul the department and resurrect it,” Chummy stated with an innocently look that made even Yanee want to believe her.
Well, this was actually what they originally thought before the potato confessed to her. They thought he was sent there so that he could do magic in the dying literary department and start earning for the company. They knew better now, of course.
“Well, that made sense,” Mr. Lee agreed with a nod. “Ah is that why you two were transferred to the literary department? It’s because of him?”
Yanee and Chummy exchanged looks again before they nodded. Seeing them answer positively, Mr. Lee suddenly looked relieved and then thrilled.
“Then, that’s great!” he commented his approval.
“It’s great?”Yanee prompted. She knew she sounded like fishing for praises for her boyfriend, but her dad didn’t know that so she wondered what he’d say about him.
“Yeah. That boy is amazing at his job. Even if you two dislike your work now, you will learn a lot working with him so you have to persevere and just familiarize yourself with the ropes. It would be advantageous for you in the future.”
Well, Yanee reckoned that putting ‘worked with Tohru James’ on her resume would boost her work experience a lot. Her father was correct when he said that the potato was a superstar.
“Well, this project is actually for the Ai Awards,”Yanee confessed and her parents looked delighted but at the same time worried.
“I’m so happy for you! But are you alright? You never liked novels so isn’t this putting great pressure on you?”
Mrs. Lee took her arm as she studied her face. Yanee smiled at her reassuringly. Well, it was true that she felt somewhat pressured. But with everything already arranged for her and with Tohru and Chummy ȧssisting her, she also felt that she could try her best.
Besides, the big sisters trusted her with their stories. Yanee was inspired to do justice and write them beautifully.
“I’m alright. It’s a big task but I’ve decided to do my best. Besides I have Chummy and my boss to guide me. Also, don’t I have the best romance critique at my disposal?” she asked as she rolled her eyes making her parents laugh.
“Don’t make fun of Ami too much. Be happy she’s addicted to reading romance novels that she could help you out,” her mother told her as she laughed but Mr. Lee suddenly looked unhappy.
“If only she applies what she reads in real life,” he grumbled. “She’s already thirty and she’s still unmarried. How can we have grandchildren from her? She’s totally picky!”
Yanee and Chummy laughed at Mr. Lee’s complains. Well, it was true that even if Ami’s a hopeless romantic, it was a fact that her parents were troubled about her lack of love life due to the fact that she refused to marry anyone that was not her Prince Charming. As to how to find him, Ami also had no idea. She was just very picky.
“What are you guys laughing for? The same thing applies to the both of you! You’re already twenty-seven. Have pity on your parents! We want to see our grandkids before we die,” Mrs. Lee told them with a pout.
“I’m not included! I have a boyfriend,” Chummy declared and the elderly couple who was friends with her parents too was delighted for her.
But this made the couple suddenly turn their attention to the only daughter present in the room, their eyes scrutinizing her. Yanee folded.
“Why are you looking at me like that? I have a boyfriend too,” she suddenly declared, and of course chaos ensued before she was able to sort her thoughts out long enough to think about how to tell them.
“When? And with who?” her parents demanded.
Although they looked happy, they were also worried.
“Is he a good guy? Are you happy?”Mrs. Lee asked, and Yanee felt warm realizing that her parents didn’t ask the typical questions like “Who is he? Where did he come from? What is his job?”— Things like those. But they asked if he was good and if she was happy instead.
She really loved her parents.
“He’s a nice guy. He’s very thoughtful.”
