Office Diaries - Chapter 185
The next day came, and Yanee woke up feeling light and refreshed.
That’s odd…
It was a bit strange as she usually woke up already high strung. But then again, she remembered what happened the day before and a smile tugged at her lips.
“Ah, look at what we have here— the princess is finally awake,” Ami said at the doorway and Yanee chuckled as she rubbed her eyes. “You must be so happy to finally becoming legal.”
“Yah!” Yanee jokingly struck her tongue out at her sister.
It was true, though. The reason why she probably had a goodnight’s sleep was precisely because she had no more secrets to hide from her parents— not that Tohru was a secret. She just couldn’t find the right time to tell their parents about him. Since it was already done, and her parents seemed to be satisfied with Tohru so far, she had less worry..
“What time is it?”
“It’s half past nine. You have to step up or we’ll be late,” Ami said before leaving her alone.
Knowing her sister’s packed schedule for the day, Yanee didn’t waste any more time. It was enough that Ami didn’t wake her up earlier. Despite her more flexible schedule, Ami knew Yanee stayed up until the wee hours of the morning working on her manuscript, and so, she truly appreciate her elder sister leaving her alone to rest until it’s already almost time to go.
The salon was not the far. It was only a ten-minute drive from their apartment. It was one of the popular ones that used all natural ingredients in their products. Also, all the staff were professional and tight-lipped, taking care of their clients’ privacy, so she and Ami liked the place so much and became VIPs there.
“So, were mom and dad terrible last night?” Ami asked while they were having massage.
“Of course, not. They just asked a lot of questions, but they were fine in the end,” Yanee answered before turning to her sister with a curious expression. “By the way, sis, I’m truly wondering why you did not grill Tohru the way mom and dad did.”
After the fiasco in Nagoya, Ami was very protective of her when it came to relationships to the point she scared off her male coworkers who were overly friendly towards her when she first came to Tokyo to work. Among her family, she was expecting Ami to have more reaction. But she did not do anything aside from teasing him when she and Tohru went to the hospital to meet Ami.
Ami looked amused. “Did you want me too? It’s still not to late to do it since you requested it,” she teased, and of course, Yanee shook her head.
“No. I’m just wondering, okay?”
“Do you like him?” she asked, and Yanee shyly nodded. “Then what’s there to grill about? It’s not like he’s completely unknown. Chummy told me about him, and he sounded decent. Since you like him, and he seems to genuinely like you, there’s no need for me to say anything.”
“Really? I mean you’re the elder sister,” Yanee prompted and Ami chuckled.
“Little Sis, even if we’re sisters, your love life is not my business. You’re the one who will spend your life with the man, it’s not my place to say anything.” Ami looked thoughtful after that. “The only reason why I was strict when you first came here was because you arrived here so broken.”
Yanee was stunned speechless, but she did not disagree to her words. It was the truth, after all. When she came to Tokyo, she was still hurting from the things that happened back in Nagoya. She still hadn’t gotten over the fact that she was a third party, even if she didn’t know, and that her ex even accused her of fooling him when he found out about her family background. Who lied to who? But at that time, she was not in the correct state of mind to think or make decisions for herself. This was why Ami was fierce.
Now that she had recovered, Ami had given her enough space and respected her enough not to meddle with her relationship.
A soft smile curved Yanee’s lips as she looked at her weird, but very pretty sister. “Thanks Big Sis,” she murmured. “I hope you find someone you like too,” she added making Ami laugh.
“Oh, please, I only like making money for the time being. No need to worry about my love life. I’m still waiting for my Prince Charming to come.”
Yanee fell silent. Even if Ami said her usual lines, since her conversation with her parents about her sister not believing in romance last night, and Tohru’s agreement, even calling it Ami’s occupational hazard, she felt strange. Sure enough, now that she heard about it, she had to agree that Ami did sound sarcastic when she said that. She only realized it now. She used to think she was a hopeless romantic person.
Yanee now was curious about the story behind her sister’s outlook on romance. But she knew that it was not yet the time to discuss it. She and Ami had too many things on their plate. Maybe, after she finished her project, and when Ami’s schedule’s free, she’d like to sit down and have a serious heart to heart talk with her.
After three hours of treatment at the salon, Ami and Yanee emerged from the building feeling so fresh and pretty. The two of them dined at the restaurant next to the building, and Yanee told her about the Song couple. Ami didn’t mind talking to them at the expo, since she would go there to talk with possible clients who’d come to her booth anyway.
After that, Yanee returned to the apartment via cab, as she refused Ami’s offer to bring her back. Upon arriving home, Yanee started feeling sleepy, and was thankful she did not insist to Tohru that she could work after lunch. She decided to take a nap. She set the alarm for two in the afternoon, sent a message to Tohru, and fell asleep.
