Omni-Mastery - Chapter 505: A Fortress At Both Ends? Double Siege Battle!
‘As expected.’
Fear has already proven its ability to crush a headless chicken, but things were different when its head was still attached.
Of course, if this had only been a battle between normal humans, it wouldn’t have made much of a difference if there was someone with a brain in the enemy’s midst. However…
‘The Demons’ diabolical methods are always ready to fill in the gaps!’
Despite stretching both myself and my items out in a fight of desperation as I approached my desire, a leveled playfield, now that they were in a pinch, the Demons had a way of responding just like always!
Knowing that the cannon fodder that had already lost more than half their numbers would only continue being trimmed down by me and the Dragon Clan’s soldiers, the Demons’ leader had decided to use them in a much better way.
“Just what is that?!”
In contrast to the physical barrier that he made by piling up the Corruption ‘Zombies’, this time, he used a shaman-like ability to create an energy barrier using nothing other than the Demons’ essence.
‘Or is it their Corruption Energy?’
Just as the case was with the inexplicable things that the shamans had performed, I couldn’t iron out the details of the complex machination playing out in front of me.
To begin with, I had targeted any and every demon that had the word ‘shaman’ in any part of their titles, all to avoid a situation like this. Yet, it seemed like no kind of early preparation could directly decide how the battle ended.
The cannon fodder Demons that once ran in fear now ran to offer themselves up as batteries for the new energy shield protecting the advanced Demons. If I wanted to solve the mystery of this ability, I first had to figure out why that happened.
Fear was the strongest blade that I had utilized in this battle, but it was nullified just like that. If I could compare it to anything, it was almost like they were turned into zombies just like their already sacrificed counterparts…
‘It has to be his Corrupted Element… right?’
The only answer that I could come up with was to chalk it up to the bizarre abilities that Elements manifested once they were tainted by Corruption Energy.
Unlike the normal Elements that you could already guess their use just by hearing their names or witnessing them once, such abilities were as insidious as the demons that used them.
‘Something like domination or forced refinery, maybe a combination of both.’
Since the ‘Eye of Knowledge’ didn’t help that much in a situation like this, I could only guess. However, even if I did know for sure, it wasn’t like I could use that information to my advantage.
‘That’s why I should actively look for a way to use the Light element.’
It wasn’t capable of completely nullifying the ability of a Corruption Element, but it had the innate ability to weaken it. Acquiring a linked method for the Light element was becoming more and more urgent.
“Fall back!”
However, that didn’t mean that I was helpless in front of this situation. As I called back Dragon Clan’s army before they wasted any more of their energy, I quickly got to testing the useful part of my hypothesis.
Swish!
My Weapon Energy-covered swords waited no further as my thoughts came to a conclusion. In the end, this was a battle of energy draining!
The energy barrier that the Demons created had the ability to consume my Dragonoids by sacrificing its own particles so any form of offense other than pure physical attacks was useless. In addition, the corpses of the drained Demons acted as a very useful meat shield. In short…
The Demons had basically created a fortress of their own. Both sides had to use the same methods of siege warfare!
The situation had completely turned into a nonsensical one, rather than acting on the confirmed roles of the attacker and defender, both sides were now capable of doing either. So, there was no telling how things would go.
In our case, the Demons would lose whatever little advantage they had left if they still chose to attack and it would turn into a battle of durability.
On the other hand, if we tried to attack in this situation, we would consume our stamina at an even faster rate and quickly become helpless prey.
At the same time, we couldn’t afford to wait it out till the other side acted. After all, the Dragon Clan’s army was barely holding on to their structure, a prolonged war of nerves would only end in their collapse.
Countless codes of action flashed through my mind before being eliminated one by one. Just like the situation was at the beginning, it was once again a desperate confrontation. Only a few of them could be adopted!
Had it not been the continuation of an already exhausting battle, a lot of things could be done. However, even if that wasn’t the case, I had no plans of giving up as it was the case from the beginning.
Especially not after investing both effort and resources, not after the rays of hope were starting to touch us with their warmth!
Swish! Swish! Swish!
Going all in, that was the only option that made sense to me!
Thud!
Knowing full well that the impact would be nullified by the energy barrier, I still unleashed my rain of swords, one attack after the other.
In such a situation, I just had to push forward and show them how deep my energy reserves are!
‘Does it make sense to save up after already using that much?’
If rational spending didn’t work, then I could only spend every last penny I had. The potions that I obtained from the System Space were exactly meant to be used at times like these.
‘You will regret the day that you decided to cross me over.’
At this moment, alongside my ultimate desire for survival, a wish to crush all the cockroach-like demons started forming in my heart…
