One Path One Chance - Chapter 14 Lich Tree Cave 3
It wasn’t hard to get him into the dumpster.
In this life, I am stronger, but on Earth, I used to exercise every day, to get away from home.
It was a great way to pass the time and avoid getting yelled at.
I don’t know how other people live, but I think it’s written in my mother’s DNA to yell at me, even if I haven’t done anything at all.
James: Let’s go in!
Me: I am coming.
As we went into the room, I saw two other rooms with wooden doors. Mesla was already there, trying to open the second door.
Me: What now, seems empty, only walls, always like this?
James: Well yea, don’t expect much more, only a few tables and shelves, they don’t sit or rest only stronger ones, but they got a small throne to sit on. They don’t grave for gold, rather materials for experiments.
I nodded and looked for a good corner to sit in. James already put Ains, next opposite wall from the door and waited near Ains.
We had to wait for a while until Mesla spoke, this door has a trap, I will try to open this room later, let me check the other door first.
I looked at Mesla and wondered, how hard can it be to find out if the door has a trap or not, but because James was too far, I couldn’t ask. I didn’t want Mesla to hear me.
This time I observed Mesla carefully examining the door. I saw his hand shining slowly, I guessed Mesla was using wind to find out where the trap is or trigger it, but I couldn’t tell more.
After a while door suddenly was engulfed by blood and withered away. And looking at Mesla, he signaled for us to come, while he went in first.
When I looked at James, who left Ains and was taking faster steps to catch up, I followed up. I wasn’t the brightest person, but I was smart enough to increase my speed as well to see what inside other room.
We were greeted by another almost empty room, we saw three old wooden shelves, against all three walls, except the one where we entered.
James: This is where he put his materials.
I nodded and looked at what Mesla was doing. I saw him running through shelves, I saw some things, but everything seemed withered.
Mesla: No luck all withered, this is a very old hiding space, I will break shelves and you guys go over the floors and see if there is anything that is pushable or possible to open.
I asked: James, why aren’t there any bones?
James: Probably used up, but you are right about that, and if you think carefully what before happened I think you can guess the answer.
Me: I see, those bones spears or arrows were a spell. James: Yes, or by now we would be fighting it.
After I asked my questions, I tried to help to search for anything that my open secret place, but we didn’t find anything.
Since we didn’t find anything, Mesla went back to another door and continued to try to open it safely.
After a while, Mesla stopped and told James: Just blast it open.
James smiled and signaled to Mesla to get behind him. After Mesla went away, James created a fireball with two hands mimicking Dragonball energy blast movements and shot the ball against the door.
The door didn’t catch fire, the fireball vanished after making contact with the door, we all looked door dumbfounded.
Then we heard a groan and all looked at Ains as he was pushing himself up and yelling why we made so much noise.
James asked: Are you alright?
Ains: Yes, bad luck, when Chris used Evets body, I stumbled and touched the weird root, and got gas shot in the face with it, and everything went weird.
Me: We sure got bad luck.
Ains: Yeah, don’t take it to heart Chris, everyone who goes to scout is already prepared to half die.
Mesla: It’s good that you are better, try with your metal spells to open this door.
Ains: Sure, give me a sec, let me drink a bit.
We waited after Ains until he was ready. When he was ready he moved near the door, took his sword put on the ground next door and focused his hands on sword and sword liquefied, went inside the door and withered away.
But a moment later we saw Ains’ weird look.
Mesla asked: What’s wrong?
Ains: It withered even metal away, strong spell, possible stage 2.
Mesla: Better for us, we wasted a lot of time here already and this place seems very old, last time we didn’t even get here, at least current progress is better.
After listening to Mesla nagging we went in one by one, we saw a table and chair. I looked at James and pointed my finger at the chair.
James smiled and said: Stage 2 Blood skeletons, pick past habits.
I looked at James, who seemed like an idiot. I didn’t want to tell him anything more, or he will get angry. Because of that I breathed in and out and looked around. We didn’t find anything.
Like before, Mesla ordered us again to check everything.
After a while, I got pissed and said: It’s empty, and the only place we didn’t look through inch by inch is the first room.
Ains got up from the ground and said: Chris is right it’s stupid to crawl around here anymore, let’s check the first room and if we don’t find anything we can come and look through both rooms again.
Mesla nodded and James agreed as well, he was bored.
We went back to the first room in the middle room, it didn’t take for us to find a clue, to be exact, Ains found it.
We found our clue at a ceiling. We saw in the middle of the stone ceiling a small area losing color. James told me that it is showing us a normal ceiling, but the spell is losing its energy slowly, that’s why we see weird color.
I asked: Why doors are fine then?
This time Mesla spoke: High chance that some skeletons above have ruined the spell.
