Orc Hero Story: Discovery Chronicles - Chapter 77.2
Frizcop: Thanks, Namir! I appreciate your support ^^!
“Belmont! Galmont! Damn it!”
“Buganvilia, get a grip! If you hesitate here, you’ll die! Remember our promise from that day? You’ll find a wonderful husband and have a precious baby! Stay strong!”
The situation in the battle was far from favorable. Even with Thunder Sonia and Nemesia, the two elven mages, using their powerful lightning magic, they only managed to scorch the monster’s skin. Similarly, the sword strikes from fighters like Nazar and Romulus barely caused significant damage. The strong blows from Barabara do Banga targeting the monster’s joints were all successfully blocked. Yes, blocked. Despite the apparent chaotic frenzy, the monster possessed intellect and knowledge. There was a clear sense of purpose: the desire to immobilize everyone present for as long as possible, driven by the will of Sage Caspar.
The giant’s magic emerging from its massive hands amplified human magic many times over, and his method of attacking the weakest first was a fundamental human tactical approach. Furthermore, he used his massive body to strike at their members. Although it seemed somewhat inexperienced, it didn’t fight recklessly but rather mixed in changes of pace, effectively wearing down Thunder Sonia and the others.
No one knew it, but everyone present could feel it. Perhaps it was the first time Sage Caspar had taken this form. However, the act of transforming to fight was not new to him.
Maybe Sage Caspar was thinking ahead: after taking his time to immobilize everyone present, he could defeat a few and then escape. If they kept fighting, the guards assisting important figures to escape the danger zone and the soldiers defending this area would soon arrive in force. He might try to settle the battle before that or even cut through it.
Their current location was just outside the city walls. Ideally, they would immobilize the monster here and defeat him. However, Sage Caspar seemed to understand this as well, occasionally showing signs of wanting to head towards the castle, which was frustrating.
“Damn it, we can’t pursue Poplatica like this! They’ll end up escaping!”
“Should we divide our forces?”
“Don’t be foolish! Do you think we have that luxury? Oh, damn, if only the escorts had arrived earlier!”
Thunder Sonia’s complaints fell on deaf ears. The royal guards were all experienced professionals. Once they were all gathered, they would surely be able to stop this monster.
“After the kings have evacuated, the guards should send some people back. Until then, we must at least keep it confined to this area…”
“But even with this many people…”
Only a few minutes had passed since the appearance of the monster, and despite being well-prepared for external attacks, Stormhill Castle had not anticipated the sudden appearance of a giant monster within its walls. The soldiers guarding the outside of the castle would take time to arrive.
Furthermore, their opponent was none other than the Human Sage Caspar. He was not just any mindless demonic beast. He was an experienced mage and one of humanity’s renowned champions. Despite his shifting appearance, his cunning tactics remained intact.
In contrast, Thunder Sonia and her team faced an opponent who fought in an unknown manner, and their teamwork was, at best, improvised. They already had casualties, and even the human soldiers hesitated to face the monstrous entity they had never seen before.
“Damn it, he’s not stopping!”
The monster continued to move away from the castle. The further it got, the harder it was for the guards to pursue it. Their duty was to protect the castle. It was not about neglecting the people in the town below, but considering the possibility of the enormous creature reversing course, they needed to leave a significant number in the castle.
“Let’s go after him!”
Thunder Sonia and her group, who weren’t held back like the others, pursued the monster. However, there were still people in the path of the monster as it trampled through the city. Could they use large-scale magic? Would their actions create a rift between humans and elves? These doubts briefly crossed Thunder Sonia’s mind.
Thunder Sonia was considered the mother of all elves. Even if she had to face humans, she couldn’t unleash magic against her allies.
“Thunder Strike!”
Maybe Sage Caspar had those thoughts, but Thunder Sonia didn’t hesitate. An elven archmage didn’t waver in the face of an enemy. Thunder Sonia’s lightning bolt shone. It scorched the monster’s surface, and what strayed from the beam hit a residential building, partially destroying it.
“Um, Lady Sonia, if you use magic in the middle of the city, people might… um, those humans…”
“Silence! We’ll think about that later!”
However, Thunder Sonia’s disciple and one of the renowned elven mages, the ‘Little Elven Mage’ Nemesia, was hesitant. It was natural. If an elf unleashed large-scale attack magic in the middle of a human city, it would undoubtedly cause problems later. However, for a brief moment, the monster’s movement slowed down.
“Attack!”
A group of humans rushed forward. It was a unit different from the ones guarding the castle.
“Defense unit! Captain Hugo!”
“Yes! Your Highness Nazar, I’m here! What in the world is this monster?”
“Explanations can wait. You guys do your best to surround it! You’ll take command of the entire army, and I’ll deal with him directly!”
“Understood!”
Humans excelled in group tactics, but only when dealing with known opponents. Faced with an adversary of unknown abilities, knowledge, wisdom, and numbers, they were weak. Each unit attacked the monster with magic, bows, swords, and more, but they were scattered and easily pushed aside.
The monster continued down the main street, trampling over people. His destination was likely outside the city. He seemed to want to escape and ignored the soldiers’ attacks. If they couldn’t win, they would let him go. If he sought refuge in the forest or the mountains, they could organize a hunting party later. This was how humans had always dealt with more powerful beings.
“Your Highness, the demonic beast is heading for the outskirts of the city! Should we let it go?”
“No, we must finish him here!”
“But…”
Nazar also wanted to explain that it was once human and might have important information. However, in this emergency, he didn’t have the luxury of going to each soldier and explaining the existence of Poplatica or the story of Sage Caspar betraying them and siding with the enemy. Furthermore, he had no confidence in answering possible questions or arguing against potential objections. So, like a rash commander, he had no choice but to say this.
“Keep up the attack! Stop his movement!”
If there had been an experienced commander here, someone like Houston, who had gained fame in the Orcs Wars, things might have been different. He could have boosted the soldiers’ morale with well-crafted lies or devised an effective plan and put it into action. However, Nazar had little experience as a commander.
“Ugh…”
While this was happening, the monster had moved halfway down the main street and was approaching the gate that led to the outskirts. The people in this area had gathered around the gate. The gate had become a bottleneck, and they couldn’t pass.
There were no more options. That crowd of people would be trampled, and Caspar would escape. Just as Nazar was about to be overwhelmed by his own helplessness, it happened.
“Graaaaoooooowwwww!”
A war cry rang out.
