Orc Hero Story: Discovery Chronicles - Chapter 79.3
No matter what kind of creature it was, death comes to all. Even if it was an imaginary creature, as long as Caspar believed in it, death would come. The blow to the neck was undoubtedly fatal. It severed an artery, creating a torrent of blood that painted everything around in red. One or two buildings were toppled, and soldiers were swept away by the stream.
Caspar’s limbs lost strength. His knees buckled, his elbows gave way, and his torso sank to the ground. Caspar realized that death was near.
At that moment, Caspar fixed his gaze on an Orc who remained calm amidst the torrent of blood.
—De… ne… neew… newt… —Accepting death, Caspar cast a spell. Magical energy swirled within him, altering his body. He quickly shrank until he became an old man. Both tendons were cut, numerous holes riddled his back, and scars around his neck reached the carotid artery. When Caspar placed his hand over the wound, it healed instantly. Advanced Healing Magic, but it couldn’t do much. He had lost too much blood. Healing magic did not restore lost blood. He was dying. He was going to die right now.
Bash and Zell approached Caspar. They looked perplexed. They probably hadn’t realized that they had been fighting against a human.
“What… is happening?”
“Mister, isn’t this the Human Sage, Caspar?”
Ah, it didn’t matter. They wouldn’t care about such trivialities. There was only one thing Caspar needed to tell Zell.
“Lady Zell.”
“Huh? Um, what’s happening…?”
“Listen well… I shouldn’t tell you this, but… There is a witch in the Dynancy Forest. It might be… good to visit her…”
“What do you mean? Why so sudden?”
“She’s a witch… The results may not be as expected… but… it depends on… you…”
“Depends on me? But that’s too much. I can make quick decisions in anything, but deciding without any information is absurd!”
“You… could become… Sir Bash’s wife…” With that, strength left Caspar’s body. There was still one thing he regretted. His son made him a little anxious, but he was still a dragon: the most powerful creature. It was time for him to leave the nest, and somehow, he would manage to survive.
“Huh? Me, become Mister’s wife?”
Zell did say she wanted to be Bash’s wife. But you couldn’t trust the words of a fairy. It seemed improbable that a fairy, without reproductive functions, understood the implications of such an idea. However, Caspar chose to believe. As someone who had achieved an impossible love between different species, he chose to believe.
And so, he conveyed that feeling. There were no more regrets.
“That’s right…” Looking at the sky, Caspar felt as if he saw a dragon flying. As a child, he had wanted to become that noble creature he once saw. But by the time he could become one, his desires changed, and after fulfilling that wish, new ones kept arising.
His last wish was to “meet his wife once more”. It was a wish contrary to the natural order. In the end, it didn’t come true. He thought it was for the best. If it had been granted, something would have twisted.
He fought one last time against the killer of his wife. Revenge was pointless. Fighting was pointless. And he lost. But it felt more purposeful than fading away without doing anything. If this allowed him to go to his wife, it would be a decent way to end his life.
“I’m going now…”
It was an unusual but fulfilling life. Thinking so, Sage Caspar breathed his last breath.
Frizcop: Wow, what a sad chapter.
