Origin System - Chapter 2 Tang City
A long line around 500 meters stretched out from the city gate. A loud commotion was happening at the front of the line causing the people after to slow down.
“Hey, what’s happening up there?” asked Jiang Chen to the person in front of him.
“Oh, apparently, they caught a demonic beast trying to sneak into the city. They’re killing it right now so I don’t think it would be long before we start moving again.”
“Thanks.”
It was about an hour before Jiang Chen reached the city gate and was blocked by the guards. All the guards that were positioned around the gate were ordinary people that were at the 2nd to the lowest level in the military indicated by the single arrow pointing up on their chest. These symbols were agreed upon by the entire continent as a way to identify the higher-ups in the army.
Jiang Chen glanced at the body of the demon. The outer shell was slowly peeling away to reveal a gruesome body. The blood was corroding the ground underneath it, producing a hissing noise in the air. Some people ahead of the line were trying to get over the temptation to throw up since they had never encountered a demon before. If they did, they wouldn’t be in this line due to the fact that they were regular people no cultivation nor background.
“Please, just let me through.”
The man who was in front of Jiang Chen begged the soldier to be let in.
“I’m sorry, but the rules are the rules. I can’t let anyone in without collecting the fee. Now, if you will leave the line so I can continue doing my job.”
Jiang Chen wanted to help out the man who was in front of him so he acted like he was going to rush into the city.
“Stop, it’s 5 copper coins to get in.”
“Sorry, I don’t have any copper coins on me.”
“Another one? Then, can you step out of the line for me?”
“Do you have any other way to get in?”
“The only other way to get in without paying is being a cultivator.”
The guard’s face instantly paled and his hands started to sweat. The aura of a cultivator started to surge out of Jiang Chen. Although it was really small, to an average person, it was like a knife was at their throat. Jiang Chen glanced at the man who was right next to the guard and he seemed to know his intention since he slipped into the city. The guard saw the man’s action and didn’t stop the man. To say it better, he couldn’t with Jiang Chen’s aura.
“Sorry for the disrespect. Welcome to Tang City,” said the guard as he stepped to the side and bowed with sweat beating down his face.
Jiang Chen walks through the gate and saw a street that was so wide that 3 carriages can walk side-by-side at the same time. Many people were bustling on the street and shouts were being tossed around like a cabbage in a supermarket. Jiang Chen walked to a sign that said “Inn” and opened the door. The entire place resembled gave ancient feeling with wooden chairs and tables.
“Welcome to Heavenly Tang Inn,”
A pretty girl in a maid costume came over to Jiang Chen and greeted him.
“Hello, I would like to book a night and a meal”
“That would be 10 copper coins,”
Jiang Chen handed over the silver coin that he received from the noble girl. He received a key and went out onto the busy street.
Jiang Chen spotted a bookstore out of the corner of his eyes. Jiang Chen quickly went up to the store and began to browse through the books. Many of the books were written by cultivators about cultivation breakthroughs which Jiang Chen didn’t need. What he needed was information about the world he just came to. Jiang Chen pulled a book from the shelf that said “World History Of Pangu” The book read…
A world where nothing matter but power and connections. Cultivators are rare but are held as immortals in the mortal world. Cultivation is divided into 10 realms and with 9 stages each making a total of 90 stages. Many believe that once a person reaches the end of the 9 stages, he will become immortal and ascend to the upper realm. There 5 different continents and each of them has 10 provinces with 50 cities in each…
“So this is really another world…huh?”
Jiang Chen finished reading the book after 30 minutes and walked back to the inn. Jiang Chen took the keys that he received from before and went up to his room. As soon as he went in, he quickly passes out onto his bed.
