Origin System - Chapter 8 Gu Ming
Earth – 3 Years Ago
Life isn’t so bad if you can deal with it somehow. That’s Jiang Chen’s thinking back on Earth. His parent died when a robber broke into the house. He was later adopted by a kind family and fell in love with the daughter of that family but was too shy to tell her how he felt. That family later sunk into poverty and left Jiang Chen. Jiang Chen still went to school but every now and then, he would have sducidal thoughts float in his mind. People with their fur coat on looked at Jiang Chen as if he was stupid or crazy.
“What is life?….. earn money….. find love…. and die? The rich have all the power while the poor struggle hard just to survive.”
Jiang Chen walked down the street with a thin layer of clothing. Snow pounded on his body while the cold threatened him with frostbites. Jiang Chen tried to find shelter but was unable to find any. His breathing started to get heavier and heavier. His dorm back at the school was taken away because he didn’t pay on time. Jiang Chen quickly walked under a bridge to seek shelter and sat down.
“Good weather we having today.”
A voice came from behind him and when Jiang Chen turned around he saw a homeless man.
“Yeah…”
“Name is Gu Ming. I been a homeless for 35 years.”
The man turned and smiled at Jiang Chen.
“Jiang Chen…”
Jiang Chen kept an eye on the man and didn’t move.
“Moving in harsh weather like this will just suck the heat away from you. Staying put in someplace allow you to keep body heat.”
Jiang Chen got to know Gu Ming after that encounter and learned that Gu Ming was homeless ever since he was born. His parents left him out in the wild and he made his way back into the city. Jiang Chen treated Gu Ming like his very own brother. Gu Ming taught him the ways of being a homeless person and how to make money while he taught Gu Ming grammar and ethics.
A Few Weeks Later
Jiang Chen and Gu Ming spent their times together getting a job until they managed to get an apartment together.
“Now that we acquired an apartment. We don’t need to worry about the weather anymore!”
Jiang Chen slapped Gu Ming on the back and laughed. Gu Ming smiled and turned sad all of a sudden.
“What’s wrong”
“Jiang Chen, I may be dying soon.”
“What!”
“I went to the doctor this morning and they said that I have a terminal illness. I was prepared if something like this would happen.”
Gu Ming handed Jiang Chen a piece of paper and a card.
“Why!? You are just going to die after so long of suffering?”
“It’s fated just like how you and I met under that bridge.”
A few days later, Gu Ming died in the hospital. Jiang Chen was once again lost in this world. He went back to the apartment and sat down. He looked at the piece of paper and stood up. The piece of paper had an address on it and a 4 digit passcode. When Jiang Chen got to the address, it was a mansion with a tall fence around it.
“What the…?”
After walking around the front gate for a few minutes, Jiang Chen looked at a number lock and typed in the passcode. The steel fence slowly started to part and Jiang Chen cautiously walked into the estate. When he opened the massive front door to the mansion, the lights turned on one by one. Jiang Chen looked around and was dumbfounded by the sight. Gold plastered the entire room and there were precious gems hanging from the chandelier. Paintings with golden frames hanged on the walls and even the entire room smelled expensive.
“The rich really have it going easy for them.”
Jiang Chen walked a door to the side of the room and peeked in through the crack. He saw a long table with roughly 4-6 people and they were talking really loudly about something.
“Cultivator, these days, don’t even give respect to us. They wander around and causing trouble thinking that we won’t do anything to them.”
“I say that we round them all up and put them out.”
“Now now you guys, I say we stay quiet for a few more days before we strike. This will allow for them to become weak and we can rake in the profit with minimal effort.”
A woman in her middle age spoke and everyone became quiet. Jiang Chen thought this was some kind of weird meeting and quietly back away from the door.
“Who’s there!?”
People suddenly charged from the meeting room and surrounded Jiang Chen. This entire scene happened in a split second leaving Jiang Chen unable to react. He started to panic and thoughts started to stream through his mind. Ranging from who they are to what’s going to happen to me.
“Who are you?”
The woman walked forward and asked Jiang Chen.
“Hello, I was sent here by Gu Ming. I don’t know if you have heard of him?”
“Why would Master Ming send you here?”
“He gave me this card before he died.”
The people around him gasped and started to mutter with each other.
“That’s the successor card.”
“That means that Master Ming has chosen him as his next heir.”
The woman had an ugly look on her face and slowly extended her hand over his head.
“Even if you’re Gu Ming’s true successor, I will have to erase your memory and take this card.”
Lightning coiled around her arm and she pressed his hand on his head. Jiang Chen went unconscious when he regained his consciousness, he was laying on a bench in a park and had no memory of Gu Ming. Jiang Chen went on a normal life as he did and went back to school since he had money saved up from when he was with Gu Ming…..
