Overlord: Multiverse - Chapter 48: New World XI
Khajiit, a sickly old man, was one of the 12 core members of the death cult, Zurrernorn. In the original series, he was about to conduct a ritual called Death Spiral that could turn a city into a city of undead.
The reason behind it was to become an undead himself by absorbing the Negative Energy generated by a multitude of undead. But, in the end, he was killed by Naberal.
But now, I wanted to recruit him. Subjugating Zurrernorn played an important role in plans.
Khajiit kept looking at me. I was wearing the same mask as Ainz in the original series, so he wasn’t able to discern my identity as an undead.
Khajiit: ‘Why aren’t the undead attacking him?’
He thought while noticing the odd sight of a lone man standing in the middle of a horde of undead.
Momonga: “Greetings, Khajiit. You probably don’t know me, but I am known as Malachar.”
Khajiit: “Never heard of you before; now tell me, what are you doing here?”
Momonga: “What if I said that I want to recruit you.”
I spoke while removing my mask. My piercing red eyes gazed at Khajiit.
Khajiit: ‘An undead!’
He screamed in his mind.
Khajiit: “So, you are an undead. That explains why the skeletons aren’t attacking you.”
I let out a mocking laugh at this.
Momonga: “You are wrong, buddy. They are not attacking me because they are under command now.”
He also let out a mocking chuckle at this.
Khajiit: “As if I believe tha–.”
I cut his words and spoke mockingly.
Momonga: “Try ordering them to attack me.”
Khajiit: “You asked for this.”
He raised his left hand, which had the ‘Orb of Death.’ It mostly resembles a black lump or a plain black pearl, but since its shape is rough, it appears closer to the former.
Momonga: ‘So that’s the ‘Orb of Death.”
I thought while looking at the purple orb in his hand. Nothing much was discussed about it in the original series, but in the Web Novel of Overlord, it was said that it had sentience and was obsessed with death.
I was curious as to how such a magic item could exist in the NW.
Khajiit: “Skeletons, attack this undead!”
He shouted, but none of the skeletons moved from their locations. My eyes shone brightly at this.
Momonga: “Now you see.”
I raised both of my hands, and all the skeletons bowed to me.
Momonga: “The difference in power. You are nothing but a small bug in front of me, which I could crush with a wave of my hand.”
At this point, his mouth was wide open. He was completely shaken.
Khajiit: “HOW!? THIS SHOULD BE IMPOSSIBLEE! Who in the hell are you?”
Momonga: “I also took control of your little Skeletal Dragons, so don’t bother calling it. Now.”
Khajiit: ‘That shouldn’t be possible.’
He then tried to command the Skeletal Dragon, but no response came from it.
Khajiit: ‘No. This shouldn’t be possible.’
I pointed at him with my palm.
Momonga: “You’ll pay for not accepting my deal.”
At this point, he kneeled and began asking for forgiveness. A few seconds later, I spoke with skepticism in my tone.
Momonga: “And what proof do I have that you won’t betray me when it’s convenient for you.”
Khajiit: “I won’t; I am even willing to become your slave, but please let me see the true limits of Necromancy; I want to touch that limit.”
As one of the 12 core members of Zurrernorn, a cult that was obsessed with death, it was believable that he would ask something like this.
Momonga: “Is that so.”
Khajiit: “Yes, I will do everything, but please let me see it.”
Momonga: “Very well, from now on, you are to be blamed for everything that would happen to you.”
My palm began glowing dark purple, and I used one of the skills from my racial class ‘Necroascendant.’ It turned a living being into an undead.
Momonga: ‘Forced Conversion’
A magic circle formed under him.
Momonga: “Rejoice, you’ll be the first member of the Army of Death.”
Before he could react, a purple fluid began manifesting under him, and a few seconds later, it entered his mouth. For his new undead form, I chose to make him a Night Lich.
A few seconds later, he got up from his kneeling position; the circle beneath him had already vanished. He now had the appearance of skeleton with glowing purple eyes. He had a red robe on his body, and held the ‘Orb of Death’ in his right hand.
Momonga: “How it feels to be reborn, Khajiit.”
Khajiit: “It feels amazing, my Lord.”
He bowed while speaking. He now had a respectable tone while he spoke to me.
Momonga: “Do you know where the other 12 members of the Zurrernorn are?”
Khajiit: “I do, my Lord.”
Momonga: “Good; tell me their base of operations.”
Khajiit: “Understood, my Lord. The leader of the cult is based in the ruins near Re-Blumrushur. Some of the core members are also there; the remaining ones are near Re-Uroval.”
Momonga: “I see; you are going to accompany me to their locations. I need to subjugate your cult for my future plans.”
Khajiit: “Please, my Lord, you don’t have to worry yourself with this minor matter. Let this slave of yours do your bidding.”
He kneeled as he spoke.
Momonga: “Very well, I’ll leave it to you. I need you to take control of the cult and then contact me. And remember, try not to kill all the core members; you could kill the leader, however.”
Khajiit: “I understand.”
I nodded and ‘teleported’ away.
In reality, I was using *Ineffable Obscurity* a 10th-tier spell, and an upgraded form of *Perfect Unknowable*, which was a 9th-tier spell.
It made me invisible to the naked eye, and even 9th-tier detection magic would fail to detect me. Only causing me damage would dispel it.
There was a special reason why I used this spell instead of teleporting away.
The reason was to test the effectiveness of one of my items, a ring, to be more specific.
It was a Divine Class Item known as ‘The Ring of Commandments.’ It allowed its wearer to command any monster or beast that was bound to it regardless of class restrictions.
For example, if I bound 500 level 50 Skeleton Warriors to it and gave the ring to someone else, they’d be able to command those Skeleton Warriors.
And when I turned Khajiit into a Lich, I bound him to this ring. Now, I wanted to test how he would go about completing my task.
~Scene Change~
Hermione Forced Teleported Clementine to another part of the cemetery.
Clementine: ‘Where the hell am I?’
She began inspecting her surroundings. Not finding her opponents, she became angry.
Clementine: ‘That bitch! She teleported me away.’
In her mind, Hermione teleported her away because they weren’t strong enough to defeat her.
Clementine: ‘I’ll make her pay for playing with Lady Clementine.’
As she was about to move toward the center of the cemetery where Khajiit was, a radiant blue light suddenly illuminated a distance away from her, and within its glow, Hermione materialized.
Clementine: ‘Looks like I wouldn’t need to find her now.’
Clementine: “I’ll have you pay for toying with me.”
Hearing this, Hermione had a mocking expression on her face.
Hermione: “You couldn’t even fend off one of my feeblest spells before. And yet, here you stand, brimming with confidence, convinced you can take me down. It’s rather amusing, don’t you think?”
Her response didn’t have much of an effect on Clementine; she still had that maniacal smile on her face.
Clementine: “You are just a measly magic caster; I have my ways of dealing with the likes of you. Just close the distance and stab.”
She made a stabbing motion while speaking the last part. Hermione still had that mocking expression on her face.
Hermione: “Come at me if you have the nerve.”
Saying this, she took a ‘defensive’ stance. Seeing this, Clementine took out one of her Stilettos and lunged toward Hermione.
Clementine: ‘Why isn’t she moving or casting a spell?’
As she was about to attack her, a blue light enveloped her and teleported her to her original position, which caused her to attack empty air.
Clementine: ‘What? But how?’
She was shocked. Hermione still had a mocking expression on her face.
Hermione: “You see, even if you attempted, you couldn’t defeat me.”
Clementine took a neutral stance and looked toward Hermione. Clementine now again had a maniacal grin on her face.
Clementine: “That spell wouldn’t save you for much longer. Finding faults in one defense is half the fun.”
Saying this, she took an attacking stance and activated some of her Martial Arts.
Clementine: “Ability Boost, Greater Ability Boost, Greater Evasion, and Pace of the Wind.”
With each of her Martial Arts, her body shone in a different color for a short while. After all her Martial Arts were activated, she lunged toward Hermione, who still had a mocking expression.
This time, when Clementine neared her, she wasn’t teleported, but before her Stiletto could strike Hermione, she teleported away. Which resulted in Clementine attacking the air again.
Hermione: “See, I told you. You can’t defeat me.”
Clementine heard a mocking voice from behind her. She turned around and had a furious expression on her face.
Clementine: “You bitch, you dare to play with Lady Clementine! You’ll pay for this.”
Hermione: “Oh, really? I highly doubt you can accomplish anything with your meager power.”
Hermione spoke mockingly, which caused Clementine to be even more infuriated. But she didn’t attack her and kept staring at Hermione.
A few seconds of staring match later, Hermione decided to break the silence.
Hermione: “Fighting you with my magic hardly seems like fun, so here is a little handicap. I won’t use magic to defend myself, and you’re welcome to attack me as you please.”
Clementine: “You’ll regret that.”
She again took an attacking stance and activated her Martial Arts.
A second later, he lunged at Hermione. As her weapons were about to pierce her skull, an invisible barrier stopped them. Seeing this, she jumped back.
Hermione: “Before you begin to whine, just to clarify, that wasn’t magic. Everyone in Nazarick possesses skills or items that render most Physical Attacks completely ineffective.”
Hearing this, Clementine lost her cool and began attacking Hermione without any regard for her defense.
As Clementine kept attacking her, she yawned out of boredom. A minute later, Clementine stood a distance from her, breathing heavily.
Hermione: “Done already; I hoped you’d provide me with a bit more entertainment. Guess I was wrong. Well, it’s about time we end this.”
Saying this, Hermione began raising her right hand toward Clementine. As she was raising it, a wand appeared in her hand.
It was the ‘Elder Wand’ from Harry Potter and a Divine Class item from Yggdrasil. It was able to nullify RNG while casting a spell and also increase its effect to the maximum.
In short, the owner could passively use Meta Magic Enhancements for a spell. The wand also increased the Magical Damage of the spell, and the spell had the chance to pass through the target’s defenses.
Hermione: “Try to dodge this, mongrel. *Avada Kedavra*.”
A green beam exited the wand and traveled toward Clementine. Before she could dodge, it struck her, killing her instantly.
The spell Hermione used was a 9th-tier Instant Death Spell, capable of killing anyone who had lower Magical Defenses than her and didn’t have Instant Death Spell Immunity.
She began walking toward the dead body of Clementine, who had a shocked expression on her face.
Hermione: “Now you understand why I gave you a handicap.”
Momonga wrote in her Flavor Text that she likes to play with her target. He also wrote that she likes to take weird trophies from her victims.
Hermione crouched down near her and began unstrapping her bra. A second later, she was successful.
Hermione: “You wouldn’t be needing that for what’s about to come. Well, it’s time to head back.”
She also picked up her Stiletto and stood up. She then pointed her wand at an empty location and cast *Gate*. After the portal was opened, she dragged Clementine’s corpse by her leg and entered the portal.
