“The bandit hideout thing? Those bandits are a pain for the transports of wheat and things like that,” The manager explained, “They keep attacking the merchant transportations and tax them, they don’t take everything, it’s like a slap in the face, so I don’t have much bread and such left.”
“Well, I guess we will be helping the town by doing this,” He rubbed under Miia’s chin, “You are going to be able to have fun,” Gold gave the rest of his food to Miia, “How much do I owe you?”
“1 bronze coin,” Gold flipped a coin his way, “Thank you, oh, and good luck.”
“Thank you,” Gold said as he got up and placed Miia’s plates on the table, “Let’s go have some fun,” She smiled as they walked out of the inn.
They headed up the north-eastern path, leaving the city and soon found themselves in a thick, dense forest. Gold walked calmly while Miia kept looking around through the trees, looking for the bandits. They arrived at a crossroad and heard a voice talking to them.
“You lost?” The voice said from behind the trees, “We will show you the way,” A dozen of men jumped down from the trees and from behind them, surrounding them, “For a little coin, of course, he he he,” The men drew their blades, mostly daggers and swords, except for their leader, or visible leader, he wielded a long, curved two-handed blade, “Now, now, give us your money and we’ll spare you.”
“Miia, you want to have some fun?”
“Of course I do, master, cast Armored Scales, cast Razor Claws,” Her scales and claws changed to a grey color and glimmered in the sun, her claws extended with saw-like teeth on top of them and a thin, razor blade below them, “Can you give me some more, master? I think that I can easily get rid of these retards.”
“Tier 3, cast Increase Inertia, tier 7, cast Major Agility, but remember to leave one of them, now go my beauty,” Gold put his arm down and Miia hissed at the men before leaping at one of them. She dug her teeth into the back of his neck and ripped a chunk of his neck out and spat it on the floor. She dashed towards another and slammed into him, sending him crashing against a tree, she ran towards another man and drove her claws deep into one of the men and her hand left through the other side. He brought his blade down with his dying breath and it slashed against her skin, cutting through her flesh after bouncing off her scales. She reeled in pain and removed her arm from the man’s body. Gold put his arm out towards the other men, “Tier 4, cast Chain Lightning,” A bolt left his hand and rushed towards one of the men and bounced around the blades of the men, giving them violent discharges that killed most of them, “Tier 5, cast Dragon Flames,” A ball of flames left his other hand and slammed into the last man standing, sending him crashing on the floor, rolling and screaming in pain as the flames consumed him. He turned to face the leader of the bandits. Miia got up from the floor and hissed at the man, holding her cut. Gold lifted his hand, “Tier 2, cast Summon Dead,” The dead bandits rose from the ground. Gold pointed at the leader and the undead soldiers rush towards him and grabbed him, holding him from running away. Gold slowly walked towards the leader, who tried to fight out of the grasps of Gold’s undeads’ grasp.
“So, tell me, are their more?”
“No, these are all my men,” He spat in Gold’s face, “What are you going to do to me? Kill me like the others? Really, what worse could you do to me?”
“Miia, come here girl,” She limped over holding her wound, “Now, can you tell me where your base is?”
“No,” Miia hissed at him and put her claws to his neck, “O-okay, okay, you have to go over there and keep walking, it is in a hill, pl-please, d-don’t kill me,” Gold picked up the man’s blade and lifted it to his neck, “What else do you what to know?”
“Who taught you how to hate?”
“What do you mean?”
“Who made you hate for the first time?” He gently pressed the blade on his neck, “Tell me and I will take your life painlessly,” Miia sighed, “Even one word would do.”
“My parents, and my brother,” He said, Gold gestured to him to continue, “My parents ignored me and only cared for my brother, older brother, he was always teasing me and using my parents against me, when I was 16, I stole my father’s blade and murdered my brother first, then my father, then my mother, I hated them-,” Blood splattered on the floor. Gold tossed the blade on top of the man and turned around snapping his fingers. The undead fell to the floor, dead once again. He kneeled next to Miia, who was still bleeding heavily.
“That strike hit an artery,” Gold said as he placed his hand over the wound, “Tier 6, cast Wound Sealing, this might hurt,” The bleeding stopped and slowly the cut closed and sealed, leaving a scar in its place, “Tier 9, cast Remove Pain, there, that should be better.”
“What was that? How did you do that? Master, you are amazing! Thank you!” She threw herself onto him and hugged him, “I didn’t think that he wouldn’t die right away, thank you master, what are we going to do now?”
“Find the hideout, maybe we could take a look and bring some things back,” He laughed, “It would help the village, let’s go,” They headed into the forest and soon Miia found a small wooden door. It was an underground system of rooms, the first was the rooms, empty with no real value. They moved onto the next and found a room with a bunch of chests. Miia opened every single lock with her claws, all of the chest were filled to the brink, some with weapons, some with money, some with food and some of them with a variety of objects, “I think we should get some of this wheat out of here,” He pulled out the chest and placed it in the room in the entrance, “Actually, I think I have a better idea for moving these things,” Miia tilted her head as he headed to the door, “Stay here, guard the chests.”
He returned with the undead bandits, he snapped his fingers and they began moving the chests from the room to the outside, “I think this is something that will help the people of the town,” All the chests were outside and the undead began picking them up, “Now, Tier 5, cast Dragon Flames,” A ball of flames left his hand and entered the hideout and set everything in the hideout ablaze, nothing was left unscarred by the flames, that was the job that they had been hired to do. Gold sighed and snapped his fingers as him and Miia were at the head of the convoy of undead. They walked back to town where they lead the undead into the main square and placed the chests on the floor, some of the townspeople began peeking out, they must have been scared by the undead when they were arriving. Gold moved the undead to the side and cast another spell, “Tier 5, cast Down to Hell,” A black void opened below them and they disappeared and the hole closed, “Miia, what did we say were in these chests?”
“Um, I think some weapons, some grain, some coin and some random things that probably belong to the people here, master,” She replied looking through the chests, “I think we should have the people look at them, you know master, like a market.”
“Good idea,” He began shouting, “Come on out! Miia and I have returned from our quest with some things that you might want to see, there are goods for everyone, come one, come all!” The people left their houses, among the first was father Leon, “Ah, father Leon, how are you?”
“Very impressed, you only left this morning, how did you do this so quickly? You must be an impressive fighter.”
“Magic Caster, and Miia did a lot as well, she is the warrior, I am just a mage.”
“Here you go, 50 silver coins, as promised, may the Creator bless your soul, I thank you for your service,” He smiled as he placed his hand on Gold’s shoulder, “Are you going to stay or are you leaving soon?”
“There were some other quests, I, I mean we, might look into those,” He said as the people crowded around the chests, “Come on, take a look, these are your things that the bandits had stolen and that now, you can take back.”
“Did you get rid of the bandits?” One of the villagers asked, “Is this for free?”
“Yes, and of course, yes, it is free, but just be reasonable,” He was smiling under his mask, “Quick question, is there a bank of some sort?”
“Yes, just down there, next to the Guild building,” The woman said pointing down the main road. Gold picked up the chest of money and Miia instantly took it from him and carried it herself. They walked down the road and entered the small building that was the bank.
“Hello?”
“Yes, yes, yes,” A small, round man ran to the counter from the back room, “Greetings, greetings, I am Matthew Hilber, How may I help you today?”
“I would like to make a deposit for the town,” Miia placed the chest on the counter, “A little coin I found during one of my missions.”
“For the town? Do you mean you are just giving this away?” Matthew said as he inspected the coins, “There is at least 50 gold coins worth in here, are you sure?”
“Yes, but how do you do that conversion?”
“Bronze in the lowest, it is one percent of a silver coin and the silver coin is one percent of a gold coin, so you have what would be 500,000 bronze coins in here, are you sure you don’t want a bit?”
“I already took some from the bandits’ belts, so the rest is for the town, make sure to make it available for everyone who needs it,” Gold said as Matthew struggled to move it towards the slide that lead to a hole, “Where does it go?”
“Into the vault, I will sort it later, I might have a long night,” He laughed, “Thank you for this donation, um, and may the Creator guard your soul.”
“Thank you for your kindness,” He said as him and Miia headed to the door, He kneeled down once they were outside and pet Miia, “You did a great job, maybe I should reward you, maybe I should,” She smiled as he rubbed under her chin, “Let’s go back to the main square, I wonder what the people think of this generosity.”
“Yay! What is the reward? What is it? I want to know!” She said as she rubbed against his leg, “Is it like the other day? Or is it better?”
“That is your opinion,” He laughed as the manager walked up to him, “Hello sir, how are you?”
“I am very happy now that I finally received some grains, I will be able to get my ovens working again,” He bowed in front of them, “I think that we should celebrate, me and the villagers with start working on it,” He rose and was soon joined by the others, who were cheering for Gold and Miia, he smiled under his mask and felt lighthearted, “I need a couple people to help me cook,” The inn manager said as he turned to the townspeople but before he left, Gold tapped on his shoulder, “Yes?”
“Could we have a room?” He began whispering, “One bed is enough.”
“Of course, follow me,” He lead them into his inn and handed them the same key, “Have a good afternoon, I will tell you when the feast is ready, the rest of you, follow me, we have some cooking to get to, oh and have the tables set up,” His voice faded as Gold and Miia entered their room. Miia stayed on the floor as Gold closed the door.
