PALPATE MY HEART: Dr. Wicked is My Wife - Chapter 66
“Han Jingyi!” Wen Minghua shouted to call Luo Jingyi’s attention as she stood at the entrance waiting for Yun Jinghan to bring the car. Because Wen Minghua was in a hurry, he bumped into people and yelled at them for blocking his way.
“Could you help me? Put in good words with Dr. Bai. This funding is very important to me.” Wen Minghua begged, touching her hand which Luo Jingyi immediately swatted away. He swallowed his dissatisfaction and approached her because he saw that she was close to Dr. Bai. He thought he has the advantage of holding on to Han Jingyi’s weakness: her love for him.
“Are you kidding me? This morning, you were ridiculing me. Now, you want me to help you. Why should I?”
Wen Minghua seemed impervious to her snide. He let out a grin and spoke boisterously, “Forgive me for being rude this morning. It was a mistake. I hope you won’t hold the grudge.”
Luo Jingyi sneered inside. As always, he initiated contact because he needed something. ‘Don’t use the same tactic you’ve used with the original.’
Paying no heed on him, Luo Jingyi got inside Yun Jinghan’s car once it halted in front of her.
“What does he want?” There was a tad of annoyance hinted in his voice when he uttered the words
“Nothing.” Luo Jingyi simply answered, buckling her seatbelt.
When Yun Jinghan checked on the rearview mirror, the other man was still looking at the car. A cold smile flashed on Yun Jinghan’s face.
“What do you want to eat for dinner?”
Luo Jingyi gave her watch a furtive glance. “Isn’t it too early for that? Let’s go to the mall first.”
Yun Jinghan gestured ‘okay’ and stepped on the speed of the car. He concentrated on driving but peeped at her from time to time. She was looking at the streetscape and was enjoying the view.
Luo Jingyi rolled the windows down. She propped her hand on the window and rested her head on her palm, allowing gush of air to slap her face and blow her hair away. She couldn’t help smiling.
“Wear your sunglasses to protect your eyes.” Yun Jinghan reminded her, seeing her action.
Taking out the sunglasses he gave yesterday, she put it on without complaints.
…
Thirty minutes later, they arrived at the shopping mall. When he parked the car, he ordered her to stay put. Albeit confused, she listened and watched him round the car. Yun Jinghan opened the door on her side, bent closer and unfastened her seatbelt.
Because she was surprised, she moved away. “What are you doing?”
“Show me the arm he touched.”
Luo Jingyi gave him a surprised look. “How did you know?”
Instead of explaining, Yun Jinghan lifted the sleeve of her blouse. His jaw clenched when he spotted the red mark that marred her ivory skin. He couldn’t help cursing out loud. “Let’s go to the hospital.”
“Are you kidding me? This wouldn’t even kill me.” She shot him a wide-eyed look and pressed her lips together to smother her laughter.
Yun Jinghan never seemed embarrassed. He voiced out his unhappiness. “I’m going to kill that man.”
Seeing his reaction, Luo Jingyi sensed a surge of emotion in her. There was a feeling of her heart being full and warmth spread in her body. For the longest time, nobody ever made her this happy.
“Thank you for your concern. But don’t worry, a cold pack will make it disappear. Moreover, this is nothing.” Clasping his forearm, she reassured him. Although she had an inkling desire to ask how he found it out, she merely let it go.
When Yun Jinghan calmed himself, he tucked the strands of hair behind her ear. Softly, he posed “Do you want me to deal with him?”
“No.”
“Okay. But I might not be as forgiving next time.” Yun Jinghan replied and distanced himself.
Luo Jingyi didn’t flinch when she heard his tyrannical remark.
…..
As Luo Jingyi was craning her neck to look for the information desk, Yun Jinghan noticed it and inquired, “What do you need to buy?”
“Phone.”
“Let’s go to the second floor.” Yun Jinghan guided her to the direction of the escalator deciding against using the glass-sided elevator because the place was packed.
“You’ve been here before?” Luo Jingyi questioned subtly, inching closer to be heard because of the noise around them. There was a mishmash of voices from people talking, children crying, and announcement booming on the speakers regarding store promotion.
Yun Jinghan just nodded. He didn’t tell her that this shopping mall was built and owned by his company.
After passing numerous store signs, they entered the shop. The sales staff greeted them enthusiastically. Luo Jingyi showed her phone and asked for the same unit. Although her phone was a model the previous year, she wanted the same because she was used to its functions. The woman at the counter shook her head and told them it was out of stock. Hence, she showed them the other products on the display cases.
When Luo Jingyi was undecided, Yun Jinghan pointed to the white one. “This one is better. It comes with the latest operating system and it’s much user friendly.”
“Okay. I’ll take this.” Luo Jingyi settled on his recommendation.
Yun Jinghan took out his card and handed it to the woman whose eyes went wide upon seeing the black card. It was her first time seeing it.
“What are you doing?” Luo Jingyi asked as she rummaged for her wallet in her bag.
‘Where is it?’ Her eyebrows squish together when she couldn’t find it. She was certain it was inside. Throwing an apologetic smile to Yun Jinghan, she allowed him to pay. She committed in mind to transfer the money later.
The sales staff returned his card and as he put it back in his wallet, a curve emerged at the corner of his lips.
While Luo Jingyi was busy with her new phone, she didn’t notice that her wallet magically appeared in her bag. Yun Jinghan shook his head for resulting in something like this, hiding her wallet so he would have the advantage.
