Part Wolf - Chapter 113 Chapter 112
One of the conditions to win was that they had to stay inside the circle for the entire duration of the fight. She looked at the boy, who looked her own age eyeing her up and down from inside the circle. The towel that wrapped around his waist exposed the well-toned muscles of his torso. It was apparent to her that he had been around and practicing in his wolf form for some time unlike her.
But this information did not bother her. She had other things on her mind. Her biggest fear was that her towel would fall off at the most inappropriate moment and everyone would see her nude. And she definitely did not want that to happen. Although she was not that confident in her combat abilities, she was not one to back down after she had agreed on something. This could even prove to be the moment that she was waiting for, she told herself. If she could win the combat, maybe the wolves won’t look down on her anymore.
“Did you even turn yet, wereling?” The boy asked with an arrogant smirk on his face.
Elize cocked her head to the side. “Is that supposed to be a taunt?” She asked, raising her brows.
His arrogant smirk quickly vanished, replaced by an annoyed expression.
“I stand corrected. Human.” He spat, showing disgust.
“You’re wasting your time, trying to get to me,” Elize said, shaking her head.
The boy growled, his eyes glowing in a shade of yellow. Elize took a deep breath and leaned forward, ready to shift as soon as the signal goes off.
“Ready?” The senior asked, looking back and forth the both of them.
Elize and her opponent nodded at the same time, without taking their eyes off of each other.
“Aaaand begin!” The senior shouted, giving the signal to start.
In the blink of an eye, Elize shifted to her wolf form. She heard gasps from outside the circle as she transformed. There were sounds of awe and admiration that followed thereafter. But she was not distracted by this. She knew that her opponent was not going to cut her any slack. And just as she completed her shift, she sensed a heavy blow coming straight towards her head. She quickly ducked and moved to the side, jumping over the huge body of a black wolf and managing to land a heavy blow right in the middle of his backbone.
The wolf screamed in agony as blood gushed out. But his werewolf genes worked fast, as the wounds began to close up quickly. Even though that was so, Elize could see that he was panting. Fear flashed in his eyes as he looked at her, filling her with a wild desire to finish what she had started. Loud cheers echoed around them, mostly for Elize. His ego and pride badly hurt, the wolf launched at her once again, this time keeping to the ground.
She sensed what he was going to do before he did it. His intention was to throw her outside the circle. Elize stood her ground, waiting for the quickly nearing creature to attempt what he thought he could do. Every inch that he came closer, she was more aware of her superior power. Her wolf was as big as his and so there was no chance that he could try and overpower her by sheer size, she thought. But just as he was about to reach her, he took off into the air, surprising her.
Concentrating on the angle of his flight, she moved swiftly to the side, efficiently dodging the attack. In the next second, his claws heavily slammed into the ground along with the weight of his body. The knife like claws of the wolf pierced into the ground, slicing through the surface like it was a piece of cake. Her eyes widened in horror at the thought of that attack actually hitting her. If she hadn’t moved in time, his claws would have pierced through her skull and even possibly killed her. She growled in anger, seeing his intention. Without wasting another second, she took off, aiming her claws straight for his head.
Just then the whistle sounded, followed by the announcement, “Five minutes up! The winner is Elize!”
Elize stopped in her tracks, panting in excitement. She looked at the fear in her opponent’s eyes as her claws remained extended to the spot in between his eyes, with only the distance of a hair strand separating her from finishing her blow. She quickly retracted her claws and walked towards her towel. Getting underneath it, she shifted back, hastily wrapping the towel around her chest.
“Good game.” The boy called out from behind her.
“You too.” She said, turning back with a smile.
That was when she noticed the awestruck gazes of her classmates on her. She waved at them confidently with a wide smile. Some waved back, while others looked away shyly. She felt like a new person- like she was born anew. She had no complaints whatsoever about losing her magic. She was enjoying the sheer rawness of her physical strength for the first time.
The next half an hour was spent in consecutive battles with the rest of her group. By the time that she had come out victorious as the champion of her group, she was bathing in the glory of her wins. The excitement that it gave her, made her yearn for more. She wrapped the towel around her chest once again as she walked away from her cheering group towards her friend.
“And here I thought that somebody was unsure of herself.” Nina teased, shaking her head with a proud smile plastered on her face.
“I didn’t know that it would be this much fun,” Elize said, laughing.
She hugged her friend happily, glad that she had participated.
“Some things are like that. You’ll have to try it to know if you’re going to like it or not. If you stay back feeling scared, then you’d never know the fun of it.” Nina said, patting her back fondly.
“Thanks, Nina,” Elize replied, stepping back.
“Hmm?” Nina asked, raising her brows in confusion.
“Thank you for helping me through my first days,” Elize said, squeezing her friend’s arm.
“Oh, you’re doing fine on your own,” Nina said with a wink.
“The final round starts now. Champions of each group, please step forward.” Lang Jin called, standing in the middle of the ground.
Slowly, the groups dispersed, moving to crowd around where Lang Jin stood with Eun Ae and several other seniors. Elize too walked towards the place along with Nina. Reaching the group, they went forward until they were standing right in front of the seniors. Elize stayed back with the rest of her classmates while Nina joined hers.
“Since we’re short of time, we’ll be doing a quick survival round. The same rules and conditions apply. Four of you should try your best to survive for the next eight minutes.” Eun Ae announced.
Elize was thrown back by the announcement. Although she had enjoyed the one on one combats, she was sure that putting four wolves inside a circle and asking them to survive was literally asking for death- if not hers, then of the rest of the competitors who were going to go inside with her.
“But-” She quickly protested.
All eyes were suddenly on her.
“You have a problem?” Eun Ae asked, raising her brows.
“I don’t think it’s fair.” Elize murmured.
“That’s just how it is Elize. Not everything will be bent and broken just for you.” Eun Ae said angrily, clenching her teeth.
“I didn’t mean that,” Elize replied, taken aback by the intensity of the hostility.
“Everyone else please stand back from the circle. Contestants, you can now step inside.” Lang Jin announced, cutting through the awkwardness.
Elize sighed, walking towards the bigger circle that was drawn freshly by the seniors. She stepped inside and looked at the other three contestants. There were two boys and a girl- all around her age or maybe a year or two older than her.
“Ready to die?” One of the boys asked her, smiling evilly.
“Oh boy.” She said, shaking her head at the arrogance.
“Aaaand begin!” The signal went off.
