Part Wolf - Chapter 127 Chapter 126
“Are you sure about this? I don’t feel any magic off of it.” She said cocking her head to the side.
Agatha nodded. “Yes, I’m quite sure of it. I was able to feel its energy from way over there.” She said, pointing towards the bed. “That’s what woke me up in the first place. Who gave you this?” She asked while examining the stone in the sunlight with narrowed eyes.
Elize could see that the stone was shining brilliantly against the sun. But the peculiar thing about it was that it didn’t project any reflection at all. It surprised her to see such a phenomenon. It must indeed be a magical item, she thought to herself, all doubts disappearing from her mind. The prospect of such a stone existing at all baffled her. But then again, what intrigued more her was how it had ended up in her hands. Why would Aileen send this to her? What use would she have of a destiny stone when she was a werewolf who already had a mate?
“Nina had given it to me, saying that Aileen had asked her to give to me,” Elize replied with a frown.
Agatha’s brows shot up, hearing the answer. She looked surprised, shaking her head in disbelief. The witch started walking back and forth in front of the table, seemingly looking distracted.
“Aileen? No way.” She said, keeping her eyes on the stone. “This is way too rare an item to come into her possession. The only other person who I know possesses a destiny stone is the empress of the Fae- empress Evelyn Irwing.”
Agatha stopped pacing, looking towards the balcony, lost in her thoughts. Elize cleared her throat loudly, bringing her friend back to reality.
“Why does the name sound familiar?” She asked, leaning back against the couch.
The witch laughed, shaking her head at her. Elize narrowed her eyes at her friend. What was funny about the question anyway? She was genuinely confused. And that name rang a bell somewhere but she couldn’t place it exactly. She wouldn’t have asked the question if she knew that her friend would laugh at her like this, Elize thought pouting in annoyance. Agatha saw her expression and quickly stopped laughing.
“She’s Prince Irving’s mother you dummy,” Agatha said, trying hard to suppress another fit of laughter.
“Ohh..” Elize replied, suddenly feeling embarrassed.
Of course, she should have known that. The information bothered her. Agatha made it sound like the stone was too precious to be in the hands of normal people.
“Wait,” She said, shifting in her seat uncomfortably, “so what you’re saying is-”
“Then how?” Elize asked, surprised.
This just got more confusing. The stone seemed to be a highly valued item, judging by what her friend had just told. The box in which the letter and the necklace were in, clearly was a magical item that could only be opened by her blood. There was no way that Anna- a human could possess such an item unless someone had helped her with it. Even then, how would she come across a rare item such as the destiny stone? And how did she manage to keep it? More importantly, how had Aileen kept it with her all this time without attracting any attention at all? Even if the head witch didn’t know of its contents, surely she must have sensed the energy off of the box.
“How did Nina manage to get it to you?” Agatha asked, coming to sit next to her.
“A box- something that opened with my blood,” Elize replied, trying to explain it to the best of her abilities.
The witch gasped. Her eyes widened in shock. It seemed that she was more shocked at the information than when she got to know that what she was holding was the so-called destiny stone.
“An enchanted treasure box?!” Agatha exclaimed. “That’s-”
“That’s rare too?” Elize asked with a sigh.
At this point, she wouldn’t be surprised if the box itself was more precious than the stone. She knew that it was an enchanted item. But what was there to make a huge fuss out of it? She simply didn’t see the need for it.
“That’s more expensive than buying ten castles!” Agatha shouted, suddenly standing up.
Elize’s eyes widened at the statement. Ten castles?! She’d go broke trying to buy one castle! Who had the money to throw around like that for a mere box?! Her thoughts immediately went to her relatives. Anna was certainly much richer than Ailleen was but even she wouldn’t have had such a huge amount of money to spend like that without a thought.
“It withered away too quick for me to ponder on such intricacies.” She said absentmindedly.
Agatha rolled her eyes at her. “Well, that’s how it works.” She said, looking at her as if she was drop-dead ignorant. “It only answers to the blood of its master. Elize- are you sure that you’ve never seen it before at all?” She asked suspiciously.
“Hmmm.,” Elize replied, staring off into space.
Her mind was filled with a hundred questions. She was confused and more than that, she was disturbed. Did Anna do this for her? If so why? Why would she need a destiny stone? And how did she acquire such things? Had Aileen known about it before? If so why hadn’t she given it to her when she had arrived at the Island for the very first time? Why had she kept it from her for so long? What changed?
“Elize? Are you even listening?” Agatha asked, grabbing her shoulders.
Elize sighed, nodding her head. Although she was distracted, she had heard the question. She turned to her friend in confusion.
“Yes, I’m quite sure that I would have remembered such an item. Why?” She asked, cocking her head to the side.
Agatha looked at her in surprise. “Because it’s not possible to put something inside it without making a blood lock first.” She said, grabbing her hand. “It means that whoever put the items inside the box had done so after your birth and specifically, after drawing your blood.”
An uneasy feeling started growing at the pit of her stomach. Drawing her blood? After her birth? Then it should mean that it had occurred in her presence. Then why wasn’t she able to remember any such event? She had no cuts on her body too, to explain such an incident. She wondered. A thought flashed in her mind. What if she was too small to remember such an event? And what if she was healed by magic afterward? That could explain the absence of any sort of remnant marks on her body. But as far as she could remember, neither her parents nor her great grandparents had told her anything about her being kidnapped. Did that mean that it was done in the presence of her relatives? Seeing how Aileen’s will was inside the box, the possibility was highly likely.
“Then my mother and Anna…” Elize trailed off, unable to finish the thought.
“Might have well been aware of it.” Agatha interrupted, completing her sentence. She continued, “But didn’t you say that Anna was human? And even if Aileen was around at that time, she couldn’t have procured such an item for them.”
Elize nodded- what her friend made sense. But why would her parents and Anna go to such lengths to get something like this for her? What was the destiny stone to her? And how did they know of it? She remembered how shocked her mother was on the day of the accident when she had discovered the mark of magic on her hand. Anna too didn’t seem to have an idea about it. Her gaze shifted to the fine piece of jewelry that her friend had placed back on the table. The sun’s rays directly fell on it, making the stone sparkle mysteriously. For some strange reason, she had a sudden urge to reach out and touch it. She leaned forward, picking it up in her hands.
“Is this dangerous?” Elize asked, dangling the chain in her hand.
“Not by itself,” Agatha replied, shaking her head. “Once you put it on, it will become one with you. Only you will be able to remove it thereafter.”
Elize smiled, putting the chain around her neck. It fit her perfectly- like it was custom made for her. She couldn’t wait to meet Zack and show it off to him.
