Part Wolf - Chapter 128 Chapter 127
As the witch trail descended, Elize drew a long breath. She had a smile on her face as she played with the stone hanging on the chain around her neck. She still couldn’t believe it that she had come across such a treasure. There were doubts in her mind as to the origin of this gift. But that could wait, she told herself. She looked outside the window as the carriage came to a halt in front of the main building.
“You are sure about this, right?” Agatha asked, looking at her warily.
Elize knew that her friend was talking about the necklace. Heeding her friend’s warning about getting excess attention, she had worn a high collared sweater today, with the necklace hidden well underneath it. Agatha had also warned her about the negative repercussions of the stone. She feared that the stone would show something that Elize wouldn’t want to see. But Elize was confident that such a thing would not happen. She was sure of her and Zack. She knew that the stone would shine blue once she met her mate.
“Why? What could go wrong?” Elize asked, jumping out from the carriage.
“I don’t have a good feeling about this, Elize,” Agatha said, quickly following her.
Elize chuckled.
“You’re overthinking things again, Agatha.” She said, shaking her head.
There was a worried look on the witch’s face as she sighed at her reply. Seeing that her friend was worried, Elize quickly grabbed her hand and squeezed it reassuringly. Agatha smiled back half-heartedly. The two started walking towards the building hand in hand when suddenly a familiar figure rushed towards them with a huge smile.
“Hey, guys!” Legolas said, coming to stop next to them.
“Hey you,” Elize said, returning the smile.
Legolas huffed, his mood suddenly taking a three-sixty degree turn. He frowned, looking at Elize.
“You hid something from me again!” He exclaimed, tying his hands over his chest. “Why didn’t I know about Zack?!”
Elize laughed awkwardly. She didn’t know what to reply to that. Although they were friends and were quite close, there were many things that she was keeping from him. She thought for a moment before finally getting the best possible answer to it.
“We didn’t want too much publicity.” She said, looking away.
She turned to Agatha for help. But to her surprise, the witch seemed to be in a bad mood. Her jaws were clenched tight and her one free hand was balled up to a fist. Her nose flared, all the while, her attention focused on the ground.
“Agatha?” Elize asked, lifting her friend’s head.
“I’ll meet you in the class.” The witch quickly murmured, detaching her hand from her grip.
Before she could say anything, Agatha ran off into the building. Elize knew that it was best that she leave her alone in moments like this. And she had things to sort out before she could face her again. She turned to the elf.
“Is there something going on between you two?” Elize asked, narrowing her eyes at Legolas.
Legolas nodded. “Long story,” He said with a sigh.
Elize sighed. “Let me guess- Aerin incited Firyr to do something again?” She asked, raising her brows.
“Yes and no. Firyr confessed to me yesterday.” He replied, shaking his head.
Elize was shocked at the reply. Her eyes widened in surprise. How did she miss that?!
“What?! Spill!” She exclaimed, grabbing his hand.
“After you had left with Zack,” He said giving her a pointed look. With a sigh, he continued, “Agatha and I were sitting in the prince’s garden, fooling around with the Zhouyu. Everything was going fine until Agatha went back inside to get some soda.”
“Huh?” Elize asked, confused.
“As soon as she was gone, Firyr and Aerin popped up out of nowhere- drunk.” Legolas continued, “Or so I thought. My sister told me that she needed to go to the bathroom and asked me to babysit Firyr for a while. I agreed, seeing the state both of them were in.” Taking a pause, he looked at her with a pitiable expression. “I had kept my distance from Firyr though, letting her sit on the bench while I went and sat next to the Zhouyu. You see, I knew that Firyr had a thing for me. it was evident from the way that she was behaving from the last few weeks. And I knew that Agatha didn’t like her- and you know how much you two mean to me.”
Elize’s mouth dropped open. She sort of knew where this story was going. It oddly felt familiar- like the time she had chanced upon a certain parasite trying to leech onto her mate.
It only seemed natural to her that Agatha would react badly to such a situation. After all, Firyr had been nothing but mean to her. And Legolas was their friend- which meant that he too was supposed to steer clear of the girl. Most boys lacked that sense- luckily this particular elf seemed to get it.
“You are oddly sensible.” She said, patting his arm proudly, “So what went wrong?” She asked, confused.
“I had assumed that Firyr would keep her distance seeing how animous the Zhouyu was to outsiders,” Legolas said, scratching his head awkwardly. “I had carelessly turned my back on her and before I knew it, she had grabbed me from the back, putting her hands around me. And she started babbling all this nonsense about how she would treat me way better than any witch and that Agatha was not the right one for me.”
“What?! You and Agatha?!” Elize exclaimed, shocked at the idea.
Why would Firyr say such a thing? And how bold was she to assault a young Duke so openly?! Wasn’t she scared of the repercussions? Was it because she felt that Aerin was supporting her? Somehow Elize knew that his sister was behind everything. She had her doubts about whether the girls were even drunk. Judging by how they usually behaved, it seemed highly likely that they were faking it.
“Well, anyway-I tried my best shaking her off.” Legolas continued, seemingly more irritated. “But the minx had a death grip around my chest. I was scared to use too much force in the fear of hurting her while she was drunk. But soon I noticed it. The smell coming off of Firyr was of red wine and nothing else. My sister and that stupid girl had tricked me into thinking that they were drunk!” He exclaimed, his nose flaring in anger.
Red wine? That was when Elize remembered Lloyd telling her something about supernatural creatures having a faster metabolism than humans. Normal alcohol hence didn’t get them drunk at all. And she clearly remembered that pixie mixture was not served at the party. That would mean that the girls had played a good trick on Legolas and he had easily fallen prey to it. Elize looked at the sorry figure of her friend standing in front of her. The man didn’t know anything about girls at all! He was too naive, to begin with. How did he get a sister like Aerin? She wondered.
“I was so angry at that moment that I yanked her away from me forcibly, pushing her towards the floor,” Legolas said, clenching his jaws.
“Oh, wow,” Elize said, nodding at her friend in appreciation. “I didn’t know that you had it in you.”
Maybe he was not as hopeless as she had thought him to be, Elize thought to herself.
Legolas sighed. “There’s more.” He said with a frown. “The girl didn’t give up. She quickly got up from the ground and latched herself on to me once again. The next thing I knew, Agatha was screaming from the entrance of the garden, running towards the both of us.”
“What?!” Elize exclaimed. “Wait, this doesn’t make sense. Why would-”
She couldn’t complete her sentence as her mind drifted off into the various possibilities of the cause of such a reaction. Was Agatha drunk? She had remembered that the witch had snuck in pixie mixture after begging Lloyd a lot. But then again, she had sobered up by the time Zack had arrived. Did she get drunk after that again? Or could it be that Agatha hated the idea of her enemy latching on to her friend? Suddenly a scene flashed in her head from the night of her shift. When Lloyd had pointed out that Legolas was with Firyr at the other end of the room, Agatha had blushed. She had even reacted overly defensive when he called Legolas her boyfriend. Was Agatha may be in love with Legolas? The possibility seemed the most fitting. Seeing from that particular angle, a lot of things suddenly made sense- even her morning sleep talk. She looked at Legolas with a stunned expression.
“For a moment, I was stunned, watching Agatha like that,” Legolas said with a dreamy expression. “She looked so cool- sparks flying from her hands and all. She looked like a fucking goddess!” He exclaimed, excitedly.
Elize’s mouth dropped open, hearing the statement. It seemed that the feelings were mutual. Were they dating behind her back then?! She shook her finger at the elf. “Wait, you-”
“And all of a sudden,” Legolas continued, ignoring her reaction, “the Zhouyu got out of control and plucked Firyr right off the ground. She was effectively off me, so I was quite relieved, but then she got thrown into the air- landing right outside the mansion’s walls.” He said with a shrug.
“What?!” Elize exclaimed. “Tell me that you’re kidding me.”
She hadn’t expected that.
Legolas chuckled, looking at the sky with a smug look on his face.
“Let me get this straight. You and Agatha are dating and Firyr got thrown off to the sky by the Zhouyu.” Elize asked, raising her brows.
