Part Wolf - Chapter 136 Chapter 135
Leaning in, she whispered, “So? How did it go?”
Agatha smiled shyly, her eyes sparkling in delight. “He said he loves me.” She whispered, keeping a hand in front of her mouth.
“And what did you reply?” Elize asked, excitedly.
“I said that I feel the same.” The witch replied, with a happy sigh.
“Finally!” Elize exclaimed in delight.
Suddenly Sam cleared his throat loudly, calling for everyone’s attention. The girls turned towards the direction, with their smiles still intact.
“Everyone, please be seated.” He said, giving the girls a friendly glance. Turning back towards the rest of the group, he said, “Let us start the dinner.”
Elize looked around the place in confusion. All other seats except a few on either side of her classmate were occupied. She was deliberating between the two when Sean called out to her.
“Come, you guys, I’ve saved you seats,” He said, waving to them.
Elize nodded, quickly walking over to where he stood. There were exactly four seats- with the one next to Sam’s chair occupied by Sean himself. She felt safer sitting next to him. Sean drew out a chair for her, nodding towards her to sit down. Agatha and Legolas occupied the seats on her left. Just as Elize was about to sit, a hand reached out to grab her arm. She turned towards the direction in surprise, only to find Skye smiling at her.
“Why don’t you sit next to Sam?” She asked enthusiastically.
Elize raised her brows at the little girl. What was her issue exactly? She was already feeling awkward as it is. She looked at Agatha for help. The witch raised her brows in confusion.
“Who are you?” The witch asked the girl, curiously.
Skye looked at Agatha with narrowed eyes. The witch’s mouth dropped open at the animosity displayed on the little girl’s face. Turning back to Elize with an innocent expression, she pleaded, “Come, sit next to Sam please.”
The corners of Skye’s lips turned down to form a scowl. She looked disappointed with her choice of words. With a sigh, she nodded, stepping back from her. Elize quickly took her seat without a second thought. Skye then turned towards Sean with her puppy eyes.
“Sean please? Can I sit next to Elize?” She whined, pouting to look more innocent.
“Uhh-” Sean hesitated, looking back and forth Elize and the girl.
“Please please please.” Sky whined, grabbing his hands.
Sean opened his mouth to say something, but he closed it with a sigh. “Fine.” He said, giving in.
“You’re the best!” Skye squealed happily, not wasting any time to claim the seat.
Elize chuckled at the expertise with which the little girl managed the situation. She seemed to be quite efficient at turning things to her favor. It also looked like Sean doted on her. Hearing Elize laugh, Skye turned to her with a wink.
Leaning in, she whispered mischievously. “They all love me a lot. A girl has to use everything at hand to her advantage.”
Elize nodded, patting Skye on her head. She had heard the other day from Sean that Sam’s parents had passed away when he was quite young, leading to his nasty temper. Sam had taken up the position of being the pack’s Alpha when he was only ten years of age, though he hadn’t yet turned. It seemed like, Skye had grown up quite loved by the pack, like a little treasure. The girl beamed at her touch, giggling joyfully. All of a sudden, she heard the clinking of metal on glass. Elize turned towards the direction, only to see Sean standing up with a champagne glass in his hand.
“Everyone, today our Alpha turns nineteen.” He said, looking at Sam with much respect. “He has devoted all his life to the welfare of our pack. Here’s to Sam.” He said, raising his glass.
“To Sam!” Elize said, raising her glass with the rest of the group.
“And here’s to Elize,” Skye said, suddenly getting up with her glass fulll of fruit juice. “Sam’s special friend!”
“To Elize!” The group echoed.
“Heh.” Elize chuckled awkwardly.
She found that the whole group’s attention was now focused on her. Elize quietly sipped her drink, keeping her eyes on her empty plate.
“She’s so beautiful.”
“Our Alpha is so lucky.”
“They’re going to have such cute babies together.”
She heard some of them whisper. Elize raised her brows in confusion. Were they talking about her? Or was she mishearing them?
All of a sudden, Skye burst out laughing. “Of course! She’s the right match for my brother.” She said, looking around the group proudly.
“Pfft!.” Elize spat out the champagne in her mouth, hearing the statement.
Luckily, before the spray of spit hit anything, Sean quickly leaned in to shield himself and the food with a tray. Elize looked at her friend, gratefully.
Turning to Skye, she said, “Sorry. I think you-”
The girl raised her hand to interrupt her. “It’s okay.” She said, “I know what you’re going to say. We can talk about it after dinner. Today is Sam’s birthday, after all.”
Elize stared at the girl in shock. What did she mean by that? She thought warily.
Skye quickly turned to her brother and said, “Sam, please cut the pizza fast. I’m hungry.”
Sam nodded with a tight smile and took up a sharp knife from the side of the large pizza platter. He carefully cut a small portion and extended it towards his sister.
Skye shook her head. Turning towards Elize, she said, “Elize will get the first bite!”
“What?” Elize said, panicking. “No. I don’t think that it is necessary.”
She leaned back in her chair, looking at the siblings as if they were crazy. All the sympathy that she had felt for the two a while ago quickly vanished.
“Nonsense!” Skye said, leaning in to grab her hand. Pulling her up, she said, “You’re going to be our future Luna. So you’ll get it first.”
“Excuse me?!” Elize exclaimed, stepping back.
In her haste, she accidentally tripped on the chair, falling backwards, taking Skye with her. The girl’s eyes widened in shock as she desperately grabbed on to Elize’s shoulders. Elize quickly wrapped her hands around Skye, hoping to shield the girl’s body from the impact.
“Elize!” Agatha and Legolas screamed in unison.
Just as she was about to hit the ground, strong hands caught her. She looked up at her savior in surprise. Sam looked down at her with a mirrored expression. Someone quickly pulled Skye away from her hands, leaving her shocked self in Sam’s arms.
“Ooooooooh! Way to go Sam!”
“Go, Sam!”
“Go for it, Sam!”
She heard shouts from the group, stirring sparks of anger inside her. She narrowed her eyes, glaring at Sam with irritation. With her teeth clenched, she quickly pushed him away. Finding her balance, she quickly stood up, seething in anger. If she knew that all of this would happen, she wouldn’t have come tonight, she thought, turning towards the exit.
Sam’ quickly dashed towards her, grabbing her hands. “Elize I-”
Elize’s head whipped back towards him in irritation. “What do you think you’re doing?!” She shouted, trying to pull her hand away from his grip.
Sean interrupted, “Sam, I don’t think you should-”
“Stay out of this Sean!” Sam shouted. Turning back towards her, he said, “Elize, I like you. Please, listen to me.” He pleaded, looking miserable.
Elize rolled her eyes. “Are you that shameless?” She asked, narrowing her eyes at him. “Don’t you know that I have a mate already?”
Sam looked taken aback for a second, lowering his head in shame.
“That can be remedied.” Skye spoke up, coming to stand next to them. “Bonds can be severed.”
“What are you? His wingman?” Elize asked, looking at the girl coldly. Turning towards her classmate, she asked. “Ask yourself Sam. Is this what you want? Is this how you treat a friend?”
Sam looked hesitant for a second, but his grip on her hand didn’t loosen. Elize was about to lose her patience, when she heard a voice behind her.
“Get your paws off of her pup. If you want to keep them.” A deep voice said casually, accompanied by warm hands snaking across her waist.
She smiled, as the scent of forest and honey filled the room.
