Pastry Chef Sheya - Volume 1 Chapter 14 First Stop. Egypt
The airport was huge, most people don’t speak English and she felt like she was in a different dimension from the turbans, burkas and veils all over the place.
Luckily, she didn’t had a hard time finding her private tour guide. He was holding a huge cardboard with her name written on it all in capital letters so it wasn’t really that hard miss.
He introduced himself as Abdel. His English was thick with a heavy accent and he in his late twenties, maybe the same age like her.
With a car of his own as part of the package, he took Sheya to her hotel to drop her belongings, freshen up and to have breakfast.
Since it was her first time to try Egyptian food, Abdel suggested she ordered foul medames ( cooked favsa beans), tameya ( patties made of ground fava beans) and the traditional baladi bread. It was going to be a long day and a big breakfast fueled the day.
Abdel drove her to El Fayoum. It is one of the countries oldest cities. It was a vast desert, very beautiful and enchanting. She rode a camel, tried to learn sand surfing and she visited the ancient villages called Tunis and Youssef El Sadik. To combat the heat, she was given a drink called Asab al Sokar which means sugarcane, one of the most common juices of Egyptians.
Their next stop were Luxor and Aswan where she saw the amazing Pharaonic sites. Temples, statues, pyramids.. everything was there to awaken the inner archeologists of those history freaks and nerds. To end the day, Sheya and Abdel as well as the other tourists cruised the Nile river.
Abdel suggested that they end the tour for today to get some sleep because tomorrow, they will go on an even greater adventure and hike Mt. Sinai.
