Path Of The Lilies - Chapter 387 Bustling Marke
“It’s already too late too. He had lost too much blood. Even if he manages to survive, he won’t be able to recover fully anymore. Besides, it’s unavoidable that deaths can happen in the arena,” Ye Jiao replied in an unhurried tone. She had seen this situation over and over in the past.
People were selfish. When they realized that their friend or leader was giving the order to die, they would instead try to save themselves. Rather than staying loyal, it would be better for them to just betray their cold-hearted friend. She had seen this countless times when dealing with bandits, so Ye Jiao used the same tactics.
Mu Xin nodded. She noticed that one of them finally moved and shoved a pill in the senior’s mouth roughly. He didn’t even seem to care whether the senior ate it or not.
“I see.”
“Xin Jie.”
“Yes?”
Are you disappointed in me?” Ye Jiao looked up.
When they first met, Ye Jiao was just a little girl that knew nothing about the world. She would constantly ask Mu Xin about many other things and even shiver when she heard the word kill. However, she had changed. Death has become a common word that she uttered and heard over and over.
There was no more hesitation or emotion when she mentioned about killing someone anymore.
“No, not at all.” Mu Xin smiled slightly. “We all grow up, and this world indeed requires us to be cruel to our enemies.”
“Mhm.”
They walked out of the arena as the teachers came hurriedly. They saw the condition of the student was getting worse, so one of them came here. His eyes instantly locked on that senior.
“What’s happening here?”
“He’s wounded because of a duel,” one of them spoke out. “You can check the surveillance, Teacher.”
The teacher frowned. He was about to speak again when he noticed Ye Jiao and Mu Xin walking away. From the way Ye Jiao dressed, she must be Elite Disciple. However, why did she come here?
“I need one of you to tell me what’s going on.”
One student shrugged and began to tell. He was just a passerby, but he watched the battle from the start until the end, so it was easy for him to retell everything. The teacher was feeling a bit furious at the situation, but this happened from time to time. It was their mistake to pick a petty student to take care of a new student.
“I’ll take him away.”
Using Eon Energy, he brought the student away. Even though the senior was on the death’s door, he was still alive. However, he would never be able to reach the same height as before anymore as he had lost his right hand.
…
Ye Jiao and Mu Xin headed to the square. Qin Zheng and the others were already waiting there.
Lin Cai waved her hand. “Whoa, is that your friend, Jiao’er?”
“It’s an honor to meet you.” Mu Xin bowed politely. She felt a bit awkward, yet at the same time, she knew that she wouldn’t be able to meet with them all if not because she knew Ye Jiao.
“Since all of you have gathered here, let’s go to market!” Lin Cai turned around and dashed towards the direction of the gate.
Qi Huan was surprised. “Is it outside?”
“Yes,” Qin Zheng started walking unhurriedly. “That gate is connected to the city on the mountain foot. Normally, a lot of disciples would come here when it’s time for break time because they can find a lot of things in the city.”
“What can you find there, Senior Brother Qin?”
“You shall see.”
Crossing the gate, Ye Jiao felt comfortable. It was extremely similar to the time when she used the teleportation gate that Elder Qian created for them to reach the academy. There was no repulsion or whatsoever.
The bustling market entered her eyes. There were numerous people on the street, with most of them being adults. They were laughing and busy chatting with one another, haggling for a cheaper price with a smile on their face. It looked extremely lively.
“Whoa!” Ye Jiao exclaimed in surprise. “This is amazing!”
“I never thought that the market could be this lively,” Lu Wan was also stunned. The atmosphere was peaceful and calm, totally unlike when he was in the Chen Kingdom. Back then, he could occasionally feel the tense aura.
“People here are friendly because they learn how to depend on each other,” Lin Cai grinned. “They’re already together through life and death, so it’s common for them to become friends with one another.”
“Life and death?” Lu Wan was stunned.
Qi Huan nodded. “The beast tide. To be able to survive must have enhanced their connection. It’s a bond created through danger.”
Mu Xin swept her gaze across the market. It felt comfortable there. She didn’t really like crowds, but it was better in this place as she didn’t feel repulsion towards the people who were filling the street.
“I’ll go buy some sweets!”
“Ah, right, what’s the currency you use here?” Ye Jiao turned to face Qin Zheng. She had heard about those Eon Energy Stones, but she didn’t have any.
“You can use coins,” Qin Zheng replied. “But for rare equipment and the likes, you need to use Eon Energy Stones. You’ll start receiving the stones when you have passed the four months as your monthly salary.”
Salary?
The word caused Ye Jiao to raise her brows. It sounded as if she was working even though she was actually studying in the academy. Still, it didn’t feel that bad to think that she could earn money just by studying.
Of course, her results have to be good if she wants to earn a lot.
Lin Cai returned soon afterwards with several chocolate candies in her arms. She grinned. “You can buy a lot of them in the stores for one gold coin.”
“Gold coin?” Lu Wan was stunned. A single gold coin could only earn them that many? That was daylight robbery!
“There’s Eon Energy imbued in the candies, so you can recover your Eon Energy faster,” Qin Zheng explained. “However, you will need more than 10 if you wish for it to be effective since you’re already Eon Energy Master Rank 3.”
“I’ll pass,” Ye Jiao smiled wryly. Her teeth would hurt first before it showed any effect on her body.
“I’ll just go search for herbs,” Lu Wan grinned. “Come on, there are some interesting herbs over there.”
“I prefer to search for rare minerals. There’s a stone gambling not far from the mine,” Qin Zheng replied.
“I’ll just stroll around,” Mu Xin replied. She didn’t really have much interest in them.
Lin Cai grinned and pulled Mu Xin. “Let’s search for food together. I’m sure that there are a lot of interesting ones there.”
Qi Huan sighed. “So, are we going to split up?”
“Let’s go to the place you want one by one.”
