Pendleton Revolution - Chapter 1.2
A pleasure to meet you. I am the anonymous patron who has come to the decision to sponsor you. I have given the task of overall corrections and scribe to a servant who is not familiar with polite language. As such, there might be spelling or grammar errors per chance. After all, he is but a boy who hasn’t learned how to write for more than a year yet.
While I have heard that it is the recent trend for secret patrons to not send a direct missive to the subject of their sponsorship, as Andie has told us, it seems like a good idea to put forth a set of rules and nicknames between us at the start of this patronage. I shall restrain from speaking further of this after this epistle.
(T/N: Here, the patron uses the masculine title for young boys: XX 군, an equivalent that most would probably be more familiar with is XX-kun (くん) in Japanese and 君 in Chinese.)
I am very happy that my decision, though it was light, has brought Andie a great opportunity. It is merely that I am, in turn, apologetic that a decision into which I hadn’t put much thought holds such a great weight to you. My words from here on out may incur wrath, and even though I know it may cause Andie to feel rather wronged, I believe it is only right to start this patronage after honestly telling you of how this decision to sponsor you has come to pass.
It is a rather personal affair, but recently pressure to marry from my surroundings has grown stronger. To be honest, such pressure had long since existed. As such, in hopes to escape from the pressure of marriage, I ended up blurting out that I was a secret patron, as according to the recent trend, and was waiting for this to yield a great bride for me. As such, it mattered little to me on whether I was sponsoring a girl or boy. After all, if I was planning on sponsoring without such expectations, I had come to the conclusion that then it might be best for me to give the most promising student the chance.
That was how I met Andie. From the letter I received from you, it seems you will not disappoint me. Regardless of how this sponsorship came to be, I plan on taking responsibility for my actions till the very end. I promise to give you as much support as possible for all the experiences and education you wish to gain.
Please call me comfortably. From what my close acquaintances say, normally the nicknames used by his Highness the Grand Duke of Pendelton and her Highness the Grand Duchess are still being used.
It’s just that I’m unsure if I’ll seem like a person of high stature from the perspective of Andie, a very healthy and growing boy. Though there also exists the personal problem of being a little too young to be called an old man, it still seems simplest to use that nickname as usual. “Daddy Long-Legs”. His Highness, the Grand Duke, is quite the romantic person.
From here on forth, there will not be reply mail unless deemed necessary. At least not until this child becomes a little more familiar with spelling, that is.
I hope you enjoy your academy life.
From Your Daddy Long-Legs.
