Pilgrims Of The Dying World - Chapter 54
Chapter 54: Looking Back with Precision
The great leader of the First Joined Flying Battalion, the white-red pelican who preferred to keep his name hidden, was flying through the air with a stern air around him. Time to time he was glancing at the “person” he was carrying in his claws. Then trembling all over, he was rising his eyes forward.
Why was he even doing something like that? Wasn’t that task most suitable for his subordinates? In what kind of army would a battalion leader be delivering stuff and messages himself?
“Hmm”
Very good question, however, the answer was also good.
“General Mo said that only I’m suitable for such job!”
He thought at first, but then remembered how high they were, and how loud the wind was, and expressed his joy in words. Not many words, wordy soldiers are bad soldiers, and he wasn’t a bad soldier. Otherwise, why would the General himself assign him for that mission? Almost any of his subordinates could do it, but only he was chosen. The only answer to that riddle was his superior mental qualities, that of a perfect soldier!
Once, while delivering a report to the headquarters, he had a chance to glance at his file. It happened coincidentally, of course, he wouldn’t search for it on purpose!
And what he saw? A tooth-like mark! What did it mean? A mark of a great soldier, obviously! After looking over several other files, mainly of his subordinates, coincidently as well, he was sure that only his own got this kind of special treatment.
Clearly, he was among the chosen best!
“Puff!”
He gently landed the person he was carrying to the ground. A surprisingly light person, a short human with long black hair and scary, scary gaze.
“The task is complete!” Proclaimed the pelican.
“His Majesty the Emperor wishes to see you!” He said pointing his wing at the white tent.
“”
The yellow-eyed human has not even glanced at him, (thanks heavens) immediately going in.
Then came silence. The white-red bird looked around; strangely, at some point, all the guards have vanished.
“Isn’t that unsafe, what irresponsible people.” He complained and stood outside a little bit more.
“Maybe I should guard the Emperor while they are away?” Said the bird, and his voice was ringing loud in complete silence save for the wind.
“Ch!”
“Who there!” The bird heard a rustle coming from the forest, but looking there, saw nothing.
Once again came silence.
“I better get going; my troops are waiting for me”
He rose into the air, trying to get away from this eerie place. What he didn’t notice were two long rabbit-like ears amides trees
Inside the tent was no less silent. Maha, without looking around, immediately entered the veil ahead. She didn’t wait for an invitation.
“I’m happy to see you, genuinely happy.”
Said Mo Pu, his legs crossed on the table, gown unlocked and hanging from his shoulders.
Maha did not answer to him, her eyes fixated at the point slightly left of him, on a white chair, one of the dozens.
“He has already come?”
“Yes, it is the time, considering that you have come, you decided to assist me?”
“Yes.” She nodded.
“A hard decision on your part, I suppose. I understand that my “master” is a fairly old member of your race, a leftover, If I can say it without offending you, but I didn’t think you will agree to kill him.”
“We do not share personal feelings, and from what I know of him, his existence will be a hindrance to the current government. The balance of powers should not be broken.”
“So that how it is, and here I was trying to act noble, to show you how moral my cause is; seems like it was unneeded. I know little about the current Demon’s Empire, and that balance of powers you have mentioned, however, not the time to talk about it, right? The battle is about to begin. Proceed how agreed and I will help you to reach your homeland.”
“So, Young Master, let me put it straight.” Dong Jin scratched his head while looking at Xin.
Both of them were sitting a bit farther from the elephant, in trees and bushes.
“Some random old master from that “Demon” Empire was living in that pyramid, nexus, right? But the king of beasts, long ago, managed to wake him up. Then they made a deal with each other so the king of beasts will gather a great army and bring a lot of bloodsheds and that Demon will absorb all the souls”
“Light.”
“Ah, yes, light or something because he can regenerate like that. He will restore himself, and that what this battle is for, and in his full strength he will be even stronger than a Heaven Synchronization Realm warrior is. Rank Five or something.”
“However, the Beast King actually doesn’t want to do it like that, he wishes for that power to go for himself, so he planning to betray the Demon and usurp his body while he will be absorbing. That way he will establish a Great Empire of Beasts and will govern for ages.”
“And to do that he needs help from the Miss who, apparently, also a demon and who right now has gone to help that wolf guy to kill the demon guy. That how it is?”
There was a sparkling smile on Dong Jin’s face that made Xin’s eyes twitch.
Yes, that sounded silly, he could have said that it sounded silly, but why treat him like a kid? Shan had the similar attitude from time to time, and it was very annoying.
“Yes. Also, I can communicate with Maha right now.”
He said trying to brag a bit more. And there was actually a reason for that. Communication in a distance is the sign that he finally reached the First Rank of Soul Light Cultivation. It has taken him almost two months, almost five times the amount of time he spent on reaching the first stage of Qi Gathering.
Seems like he wasn’t talented after all
