Priestess Online - Chapter 41
“Whoa!” Beatrix expressed, almost losing her balance after the ground shook beneath her feet. She exchanged glances with Zera who had just pulled her dagger away from the zombie she was fighting with.
The reanimated dead fell on the ground with a sickening crunch.
Zera eyed the skies and was sure there was no bomb that went off. So whatever had caused the massive earthquake just now, it must be something else.
The only thing they needed to worry about was figuring out the ‘something’ in that context.
“Do you think the others are safe?”
Beatrix gently grabbed Zera behind her, firing at the zombie that intended to leap and take a piece of her friend.
“Not to day you dumb freak!”
She blew her hair off her face, turning only to find Zera engaged in another fight with a different set of zombies.
“I’m always grateful we took those combat lessons with Jaspreth’s uncle!”
“You know what?” Beatrix held her gun, aiming at the zombies that kept coming their way. “Me too.”
Bothered by the ground shaking earlier, Zera bit on her lower lip before she turned to Beatrix.
“Let’s dent these numbers and kill enough to run away without calling anymore to follow us and find the others, Bee. I’m afraid something happened.”
“Well, I was getting a little worried here, too. Good call! Let’s go!” Zera fired angrily at the zombies before she switched to the staff she picked to fight with the zombies in hand combat.
The sharp blade at one end would be enough to pierce right through the head and snuff the life out of the zombies.
Watching each other’s back, the two friends depleted the number of zombies coming their way. With Beatrix halting the use of the gun, it had stopped drawing the others towards them.
Greenish stains could be found on their wear and gears. Beatrix was forcing herself not to think about the smear which she knew had somehow spread on her bare skin too.
That only made Beatrix wish for a refreshing shower. She wanted nothing but to finally stop running for her life, wash up, and enjoy the soft mattress of her bed.
She wouldn’t mind coming home to her mother either.
Zera, on the one hand, was struggling to keep her thoughts centered on their current task. She was trying not to think of her father and siblings. She was hoping that they were safe.
The last thing she needed was to hear something happening to them while she was inside the stupid game.
Anger flashed before Zera’s eyes. She lashed it out on the zombie lunging for her.
“I’m partly relieved that we are fighting against zombies instead of the other players,” Zera exclaimed to which Beatrix rolled her eyes.
“I’d be grateful to be back home instead of having to consistently run for our lives.”
“Just think of this as a bonus round. One where you can lash out on the zombies crawling our way. But yeah, nothing beats coming back home.”
The two friends fought their way through the array of zombies until they almost zeroed out the number following them.
It was the sign they were waiting for. After exchanging a glance and a nod, Zera and Beatrix run in the direction they believed their friends might be.
–
Nayowmi leaped out of the way, a zombie’s clawed hand almost scraping her. The chasing game has now become even more exciting with the emergence of what they agreed on was a super mega zombie.
It lumbered out of the meat factory. The humongous form of this zombie caused the building to be smashed into pieces before it finally came out.
The super mega zombie had two heads attached to a sumo-wrestler’s body which was five times larger than any giant trees one might think of.
Both heads gnashed its teeth, snapping at anything it found moving. The horde of zombies running after them had disappeared for two reasons; one the super mega zombie was eating them up.
It would scoop a few by human-shaped hands while some were grabbed by the many tentacles coming out of its enormous belly.
Even its belly had a wide mouth, its lips forming a line on the monster’s abdomen. It had nothing on except for a tattered pair of pants.
Surprisingly, it had a human body. The double head was working so profusely. The other one covered the front and the left side.
The second head had the back and the right side covered.
Its tentacles had limitless stretchability. It was what Jaspreth felt afraid of. If any of it could get hold of hem, if not helped immediately, it could be goodbye for good.
Shaking the thought away, Jaspreth clenched his hands into fists. While they were battling a smaller horde and trying as much as they could not to get entangled with the tentacles, he let his mind work out a plan on how they could try to take out the super mega zombie.
Astherielle was the one who named it. With its enormous size, no one argued.
“Hey Jay?” Astherielle asked, sinking the tip of the crossbow through a zombie’s skull. He watched it fall on the ground with a loud thud.
“Yeah?” Jaspreth whistled, battling with another batch coming at them.
“What if we just let the super mega zombie eat all of the zombies present then we set off the grenade on its heart? That would result in our win, right?”
“I suppose,” Jaspreth replied calmly. Astherielle’s idea was not bad at all. In fact, he was considering it.
Once Beatrix and Zera joined them, they could put heir heads together once again to devise a plan on how to take down the super mega zombie.
“Alright,” Astherielle replied. “Let’s find Z–”
“Hey!” Before Astherielle could finish her sentence, she felt the tight bind of something slimy around her ankle. She managed to look down and see that a tentacle had escaped their guard.
The super mega zombie got hold of her.
“Right,” Astherielle looked at Nayowmi and Jaspreth. “I should stay calm.”
“A,” Jaspreth raised the samurai sword in his hand. “Stay calm. This should be quick, I promi–”
Astherielle let out one ‘oof’ as she fell on the ground and was suddenly pulled against her will.
“Um!” she expressed, fumbling to set herself free, the ground grazing her skin. “Hello! Think fast guys! Come on!”
Jaspreth broke into a run while Astherielle kept on trying to break free from the tight hold, lashing at the end of the tentacle with the use of her crossbow.
Nayowmi followed behind.
Determined not to lose Astherielle, Jaspreth took a deep breath.
It was high-time to use the weapon he thought had been a useless choice.
Pulling off the strap over his head, Jaspreth put the cannon rifle over his shoulder, tinkering with the power button.
[Warning! You are about to use a super turbo which requires a five minute cold down. After usage, the whole machine will heat up before frosting itself to allow player to use it after its cooldown. Are you sure to proceed?]
Jaspreth looked at his friend struggling to untangle the hold of the super mega zombie off of her ankle.
“Proceed,” he propelled forward, sensing he didn’t have the luxury of time before the cannon was ready to take fire.
When he was sure he could be close enough, Jaspreth’s finger hovered over the red button which he knew would release a small but very heavy ball made of metal.
It’s target was locked towards the super mega zombie.
“HEY!” Jaspreth called out to the monster.
[1 Divine bullet ready for release. Release bullet?]
“Yes please,” Jaspreth kept a steady aim towards the monstrous being.. “Release.”
