Priestess Online - Chapter 43
Throwing her staff towards the super mega zombie, Beatrix watched the hideous creature swat it away like it was just a fly coming towards it. The weapon landed on the ground several inches away from the supersize monster.
“We need to make it eat up more of the other zombies!” Zera stated. Jaspreth looked at her.
“How do we even do that?”
Zera exchanged glances with Beatrix. The latter shrugged.
“Don’t look at me. I don’t know either.”
Zera looked around them. Astherielle and Nayowmi have successfully called out most of the zombies. There were hordes and hordes of them approaching.
The ground beneath their feet had started to shake.
[Warning! A horde of zombies are approaching!]
“We kinda know!” Beatrix answered the system’s mechanical voice. She was exhausted from all the running and having to fight off flesh-eating monsters.
Zera let her gaze fall on the super mega zombie, its tentacles lashing out at them blindly. Despite its double head, it seemed to not have a clear vision.
“Uh, this is pretty lame, but I think we actually got this.”
Beatrix snorted in response to Zera.
“Hey, Jay!” Zera called out, despite being uncertain on what to do if the plan she was thinking of failed. “How long was the cool-down for your cannon again?”
“5 minutes.”
Zera counted in her head. They would need to keep the monster distracted for another five minutes after using the cannon before they can fire it again.
From a distance, the sound of rapid firing and Astherielle screaming was coming a little closer. They must have begun to fall back.
A more enormous horde of zombies were approaching them.
This was their only chance to finally finish off the entire zombies and finally be done with the stage.
They need to think of moving forward and don’t stop until they make it to the end. Zera wanted nothing but to finally understand who was responsible for throwing them into the game and why.
It was that unsettling thought that drove her to keep pushing forward now.
“Alright! 5 minutes is all we need. Could you aim and fire it towards the horde following Astherielle and Nayowmi when they managed to rejoin us?”
“Of course!”
“What happens after that?” Beatrix inquired.
“We’ll fight! Throw the horde towards their superior and see if he gobbles them up! If not! Plan B! We just need to draw them close to that big thing!”
Zera slashed at the zombies coming their way and leaping away from the lashing tentacles of the super mega zombie.
“When we have most of the zombies gathered close to the ultimate zombie, Jaspreth should fire another bullet.”
“But that’s not going to finish off the super mega zombie!” Jaspreth exclaimed.
“Leave it to me,” Zera replied, her eyes transfixed on the divider of the two heads sprouting from the neck of the unusual re-animated dead.
“That would be gross,” Beatrix commented.
“I might not be able to eat anything mushy in the next weeks or so after we come back to the land of the living, but as long as it takes us out of here. I’m willing to pay the price.”
“I’ll be glad when this stage is over. I don’t care what the next stage has in store for us. As long as they aren’t stinking zombies!” Beatrix replied to Zera.
“I hate to agree, but yeah, me too!” Jaspreth joined them as more zombies came.
Astherielle and Nayowmi had finally made it towards them, almost out of breath as they watched the system’s translucent screen hover above them, flashing red.
[Warning! Hordes of zombies approaching!]
[WARNING! HORDES OF ZOMBIES APPROACHING!]
Standing in a circle, the five players watched as hordes of zombies approached, coming from all sides of the building.
A few have stumbled on the way while most made it past, breaking a bone or two. Jaspreth let out a curse.
“I hope your plan works, Z!”
Zera’s heart pounded inside her chest.
“On the count of three, Jay! Focus on what’s right in front of us. We’ll cover the sides!”
“Ready when you are!” Jaspreth removed the sling of the cannon, holding it at a steady aim.
Zera tucked back her daggers as she pulled the long samurai sword behind Jaspreth.
“Let me borrow this!” Jaspreth gave Zera a brief nod. “Are you guys ready?”
“I want nothing but to finally be rid of these zombies!” Beatrix stated.
“Me too!” Astherielle added.
“I’m ready to head to the next level!” Nayowmi spoke.
“Okay then!” Zera had her gaze steadied at the super mega zombie, its tentacles weaving their way towards them. “Let’s get this over with! One!”
Zera slashed the samurai sword, cutting off the tentacles that had already made their way towards them.
The enormous creature wailed loudly upon retracting its wounded flesh. Green liquid oozing from it.
It snatched the closest zombies around it by then, gobbling them up like they were candy. Bones cracked, and Zera almost gagged at the sight.
“Two!”
Zera and her friends danced with the zombies, who managed to make it ahead of the horde.
The sound of their bare feet stomping on the ground mixed with the snarls and the cry of the super mega zombie.
Taking a deep breath, Zera exchanged glances with Jaspreth.
“Three!”
Blue flames surrounded the medium-sized bullet coming out of his weapon. Jaspreth immediately dropped the weapon beside him, blowing at his hands.
Zera watched the bluish flame spread more expansive on the flying bullet. Before they knew it, it obliterated more than half of the horde that was coming towards them.
“Alright, guys! Let’s move it! We have five minutes! Five minutes to lure the rest of the zombies to the super mega one! It’s back to gobbling up the others!”
“Well! We need to fall back!” Jaspreth responded. “Let’s go!”
While the rest of her friends fired unstoppably to lure the zombies to follow them as they neared the super mega one, Zera kept an eye on the tentacles, anticipating its every attempt to make a grab for one of them.
Waiting for Jaspreth’s cannon to cool down, the five players fought off not only with the zombies but with their own exhaustion.
“I’m going to move ahead,” Zera claimed. “Jay, remember what you’ll do after the five-minute cool down.”
“Wait,” Beatrix glanced in Zera’s direction. “Where are you going exactly?”
Zera looked at the monster in front of her.
“To finally put an end to all of this.”
