Princess Or Whatever, I’m Going Home! - Chapter 2
Chapter 2
As the silver-haired, middle-aged man was about to approach Solea, the doctor stopped him.
“Duke! You can’t come near her right now, the Lady is in a very bad shape!”
“What the hell did you do that caused my daughter to suddenly have a seizure?!”
“My money!”
While the Duke was talking to the doctor, Solea was screaming for money and kicking the blanket rapidly with her feet. Even though she didn’t seem to be in pain, the hearts of those watching the scene still ached.
“Just stop that seizure for now!”
As soon as the Duke finished speaking, the pink-haired man approached her.
Then, he reached out and placed his hand on Solea’s head, who was rushing out of bed with trembling feet. In a low voice, he muttered an incomprehensible spell.
At that, Solea slowly became calm and the scream subsided in an instant.
As she, who had been twisting her body up profusely until now, was lying still on her face without moving, her blood-like hair spread loosely on the bed.
Grey rushed at Pinkie.
“Heimon! You can’t knock a sick kid out all of a sudden!”
“I just put her to sleep. Father said we need to stop her seizure.”
Heimon then quietly looked the Duke in his eyes.
Before leaving the room with the doctor and children, the Duke gazed worriedly at the sleeping Solea’s head.
* * *
After falling asleep and waking up, she was still in this spacious room.
It was not a narrow place as the bed space was large enough for three people to sleep comfortably. There was also a large window, and maids were gazing at her with worried eyes.
Solea stared into the air and felt sick.
“1.7 billion… you son of—Where did my 1.7 billion go…No, where the hell am I even?”
Even after deducting 33% of the lottery winnings tax, the prize was approximately 1.7 billion won. With that money, she could pay off all her debts and buy a decent house with the remaining funds.
Approaching carefully, Anne observed Solea, who was lying on her side and exhaled heavily.
“My Lady, can I get you a cup of warm tea?”
“Excuse me…”
“My Lady, please speak comfortably. I’m Anne, your maid. You may not remember right now, but everyone else and I will be by your side to help you so that your memories can come back gradually!”
‘Can you just find my 1.7 billion won? Ah… I don’t know if I should laugh or cry…’
Solea was dumbfounded by the way Anne grasped her hands and spoke courageously.
“Oh, all right, Anne. The tea is fine, bring me a glass of cold water.”
“Yes, you can speak comfortably to me. Do you need anything else?”
“Just water.”
‘…And, 1.7 billion.’
She swallowed the last words.
Eventually, Solea got out of bed after Anne left. She placed her feet into soft slippers and approached the window slowly.
Outside the window, there was a view that didn’t belong to Seoul.
There was a vast green field with knights carrying swords around the waists, dressed in uniforms that could only be seen in dramas. The ruthless handsome man with reddish-brown hair, and the pink-haired guy she saw yesterday were there as well.
Maybe he saw Solea standing by the window, because the reddish-brown hair man frowned, turned around, and shouted something. However, since the window was shut, she couldn’t hear him at all.
‘If the hair is brown, it’s brown. And, if it’s red, then it’s red. What’s with that brown-reddish hair? It’s not like you’re jjamppong… You’ll be a salty squid from now on—you cheeky, noisy bastard.’
[ T/N: Jjamppong is a Korean-style noodle with vegetables and seafood. Salty squid or fermented fish is slang to say someone’s annoying or not likable. ]
Solea, in an attempt to express that she couldn’t hear him, rubbed her ears.
‘I’m sorry, but I can’t hear you. And actually, I’m not sorry at all.’
The salty squid, who was staring at her behavior with his eyes wide open, shouted and began to run toward her. At the same time, the handsome pink-haired man standing behind him, caught up and stopped him.
After waving off the arm of the handsome Pinkie that was holding him, he ran towards her direction again.
Although Squid struggled as if blocked by an unknown, invisible force. At that moment, as Solea was staring at the scene unfolding before her, a golden mist flowed from Pinkie’s hand wrapped around the Squid’s body.
“What the—what’s that!”
Solea’s eyes widened, and the window smashed open.
“Ah, Brother! Don’t! Heimon—!”
As if he had swallowed a boiling train barrel, the salty squid shouted, shaking his limbs in the air.
“Solea’s not feeling well, so don’t go looking for her, Grey.”
‘That’s right, you bastard.’
‘I don’t know who came up with the name, though it’s very catchy. Grey, you bastard.’
The golden mist that raised his body gently placed him back onto the grass and then vanished as if absorbed into Pinkie’s body.
It was a bizarre sight for Solea, who was witnessing it for the first time, yet Squid spoke in an irritated voice as though nothing unusual had happened.
“Solea is just making fun of everyone! She said she lost her memory, but she’s like a totally different person!”
Saying so, Heimon approached him and spoke in a low tone, but she couldn’t hear him from her side.
Moments later, Grey then pushed his brother aside as if trying to knock him down and strode towards the opposite direction.
“What did he say to him…?”
Pinkie smiled as he shifted his gaze to Solea, who was leaning slightly out the window. He cast something in his palm and sent it towards her.
At that, a little golden bird flew gently with the wind and sat by her window. It began to chirp in a soft voice.
“Wow…”
She lightly stroked the tip of the bird’s beak with her index finger, feeling as though her mental state, which had been in turmoil since yesterday, had calmed down for a moment.
At the same time, a stinging pain, that felt rather hot and cold at the same time, passed over her fingertips, and the little bird disappeared.
Startled, Solea was holding her finger as she gazed out of the window, but Heimon, who had created the bird, had already disappeared.
“What the hell? That bastard—”
‘Why are you doing this to me with that pretty, handsome face of yours? Maybe I shouldn’t have touched the fake bird in the first place?’
She thought and sighed a little.
‘No, you should have told me. You were smiling as if flirting with me and sent me that bird, though what about that stingy feeling when I touched it?’
Even though he looked soft, he was actually a sly guy. She thought,
‘Was he trying to make me remember him…? I didn’t know. This isn’t some sort of select-idol show. So, what’s wrong with him, seriously?’
As soon as the window slammed shut, a voice came from outside the door.
“My Lady, I have brought you some water.”
“Yes, come on in.”
The maid walked into the room quietly, but when she noticed her young lady standing close to the window, she shouted in surprise.
“My Lady! You’re not feeling well, and you’re not even wearing a coat!”
Anne quickly set the tray she had brought down on the table, snatched the thick furry coat that had been curled up on the wide couch, before walking quickly to wrap it around Solea’s shoulders.
“It feels like spring weather at best, so why do I need to wear such a thick coat?”
“Because the Young Lady is weak, you often catch colds even in midsummer. Please hurry and sit down here.”
As though it wasn’t enough, along with the cold water, Anne also brought warm tea and scones with strawberry jam and butter.
“After getting up from being sick, you always had tea and scones. Even if you lose your memory, your taste will remain the same, so I prepared it. Is… this all right?”
Anne glanced at her as she said that, and carefully pushed the plate of scones a little further towards her.
She could tell how sick this woman, Solea, was just by looking at how much her maid cared for her. She didn’t know if it was because Solea was the daughter of a precious family or if it was because Anne was genuinely worried. However, one thing was certain…
Ji Yoon felt a kindness she had never experienced before since she was born.
Suddenly, the kind eyes of the mother she hadn’t met in a long time came to mind.
Her mother, wearing a thick coat that did not fit her body, asked while holding Ji Yoon’s hand in the corner of Seoul Station where there were many pigeons.
“Ji Yoon. Would you like to go with mom?”
“Where?”
“Far away.”
“Why?”
“Just because…?”
She couldn’t remember the face of her mother, who gave her a brief reply, although the feeling of her expression looked terribly sad remained in her memories. In addition, she was trembling, glancing around the whole time.
As Ji Yoon shook her head, her mother, who had bought a snack she had never bought before, opened the bag herself and handed it to the Young Ji Yoon, then she left saying.
“I’ll go to the bathroom, wait here.”
Her mother, in a navy overcoat, walked away among the gray pigeons soaring towards the sky.
The scene was as clear as if she had seen it in a picture.
Ji Yoon placed the bag of snacks on the floor as her fingers were numb. She waited for her mother there for hours. Then, after a full day at the police station, her dad, who was a drunkard, came for her, yelling.
“Where’s your mother, you b*tch? Where did that b*tch go!”
“Sir, please calm down.”
The officers tried to calm her father as the clear smell of booze came from him. Though Ji Yoon couldn’t cry. Only then did she start to realize that she would never see her mother again.
Shaking her head slowly to brush off her thoughts, Solea peered down at the snacks that Anne had prepared. She turned towards the glass of water and drank it.
Anne’s eyes looked disappointed, though Ji Yoon knew this kindness and affection were what the ‘real’ Solea deserved.
“Tell me where I am, who I am, Anne.”
The maid nodded resolutely and talked for a long time.
Solea Von Bergo.
She was Duke Bergo’s youngest daughter. Born with a weak constitution, she always needed care and assistance. Even at the age of eighteen, she had never attended a party.
The family also had three older young masters. The silver-haired, middle-aged man she saw yesterday was Solea’s father, Diego Von Bergo.
It is said that when Duke Diego was young, the war broke out. He participated and swept the enemy’s army. After his wife’s health became weak, he spent all his time in the mansion right next to her. But, eventually, the wife he cherished so much had passed away, and now he was all alone.
The first brother was also on the battlefield. It was said that he looked like his father. Becoming the knights’ commander at a young age, his abilities were extraordinary.
Solea repeated the first name in her mind.
…Tion Von Bergo.
Other than his name, she couldn’t gather any more information about him. She had only heard that he came to the Duke’s household sporadically since he was gaining merits through war.
The second one was Heimon, the pink-haired, pink-eyed handsome man with strange magic.
Some people in this country could use magic, though most of them don’t have many magical abilities. Therefore, it was only a little aid in their daily lives.
Anne stated that it took a lot of magical power to carry a person up in the air like Heimon did, as well as create and retain shapes. Nonetheless, that, too, was only useful in everyday life.
Lastly, the third brother, just below the wizard, was Grey, with reddish-brown hair and gray eyes.
With excellent sword skills as good as the first brother, and also earning the knighthood, he did not join the Knights.
‘…Why is he staying in this mansion? Someone with such outstanding abilities… maybe no one took him because he doesn’t look promising?’
Solea nodded her head as she continued her thoughts.
‘It’s reasonable. It’s too plausible. If he acts like that, no matter where he goes, he won’t be able to adapt to group life and he’ll be bullied for sure. He’ll be hit here and there, repeating the same thing again and again.’
When asked how her relationship was with the three brothers, Anne smiled and replied softly.
“All three of them cherish you deeply.”
Hearing that, Solea nodded with a subtle expression. Anne then clapped her hands.
“Master Grey used to come to the Lady’s room the most! He has been worrying a lot!”
“Nonsense.”
“Yes?”
“Even if he didn’t know I lost my memory, he was acting very arrogant.”
‘Ahk. Still, he’s my older brother. Did I speak too casually…?’
Worried, she glanced at the maid, but Anne was covering her mouth with a thrilled expression.
“You just spoke informally to me, My Lady! Maybe your memory is coming back little by little!”
“Ah—haha… I just did it unintentionally!”
A common plot came to mind.
A typical story in which the protagonist, loved by everyone, goes through something and recovers the memories of her previous life.
‘Maybe I also remembered my past life? What if ‘Solea’ is actually me in the past life…? Then, can I live a different life?’
At that moment, Anne pulled a white piece of paper out of her pocket and opened her mouth.
“Oh, right. I picked this up in the hallway, is this paper yours?”
Black numbers were listed on the thin paper.
…It was the lottery paper.
“Aaaahk!”
Solea shouted as though she’d seen a ghost and furiously snatched the paper from Anne’s fingers in an instant.
“My money was real! Money! My 1.7 billion! Kyaaaa!”
Seeing her Lady plucking her hair again, Anne ran out of the room terrified. “Som—Somebody, please help! The Lady is having the same seizure as yesterday! Doctor!”
The pain of losing 1.7 billion won didn’t go away in a single day…
