Professor Dovahkiin - Volume 1 Chapter 10 Ch. 10 Kreacher
The language of the dovah is incredible. It is nearly pure magic.
After my spell to create a raven, I sat down and began writing down every bit of the dovah language I could remember. I even used a Memory Potion to help me recall what was written on each Word Wall discovered in Skyrim. I don’t have the complete language, but it’s several hundred words.
The next three days were spent in a blur of excitement and creation. I’ve only slept a few hours each night before I’m back in the training hall.
I’ve created dozens of unique spells using the dovah language. The results are spectacular. Even the spells I copied from Hogwarts are more powerful when speaking the incantation in the dragon language.
Not only are the spells more powerful, but they feel whole. Or, more accurately, they feel complete. This is especially true for spells that have words from my Thu’ums.
Unfortunately, I’ve been unable to create any new Shouts. Thu’ums require a vast understanding of the words used. Without that, you’re just speaking the dovah language.
But, if one of the words from a Thu’um is used in a spell incantation, the power is several times stronger than the Latin version.
My attempts to create new Thu’ums uncovered a nice surprise. I can use my Magicka to boost the strength of the Thu’um’s effects!
By channeling Magicka into my throat before shouting, it magnifies the power tremendously. The empowered Unrelenting Force decimated my ballroom.
Even assisting Trixie, it still took us an hour of Mending Charms to undo the damage. I’m grateful I didn’t discover this the night the Ancient One came. There is no way the three Masters would have survived.
Despite my delay in uncovering this little power boost, I quickly mastered the empowering technique. It’s nice to have more options for varying levels of force.
A subtle pop draws my attention away from my spell experiments. Looking down, I take in the sight of a visibly nervous Trixie.
“Trixie, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” Taking a knee before my tiny helper, I patiently wait for her answer.
“Trixie be fine, Master Dragon Sir.” As Trixie brings her hands in front of her, a small wooden box appears, floating above her hands. “Trixie brings Master’s snake poison, sir. Master must be very careful. It is dangerous, Master!” Trixie’s large blue eyes fill with unshed tears.
A tightness twists in my chest. How could anyone abuse house-elves? The amount of loyalty and concern Trixie has shown me is something irreplaceable. “Trixie, you have my word. I will use the utmost caution and, thank you for retrieving this. You can even stay by my side to ensure I am careful.”
Her once worried appearance morphs into a look of pure determination. I think I just made a mistake by telling her that.
Levitating the box from her hands, I set it on the table. To prevent Trixie from interfering, I decide against physically touching anything.
As the lid of the box opens, I get my first look at the contents. Sitting securely in a bed of velvet is a pint-size crystal phial. Inside the phial is an ominous-looking black liquid. The basilisk venom has finally arrived.
Taking the goblin-silver knife from my subspace, I quickly unsheathe it and place it on the table. Removing the stopper on the crystal phial, I slowly tilt it over the blade of the knife. I allow a thin coating over the entire edge of the blade before I resecure the basilisk venom.
Placing the venom into my subspace, I return my attention back to the knife. Already, the venom is visibly being absorbed into the metal.
“This should do perfectly,” I murmur to myself before storing the knife back in its sheath. “See Trixie, nothing to fear.” I give her an encouraging smile.
The dead-pan look she returns to me says there was plenty to fear. The little imp.
Thoughts of my sassy helper aside, I mentally go over my immediate plan.
My first priority is to complete my Hogwarts mission. The biggest obstacle I have to overcome is the curse on the D.A.D.A. position.
I did a little side reading into curses, and I think I’ve figured out how to break the curse. For any curse to run for several decades, it needs a power source. You can’t curse an intangible object like a job title without linking it to a tangible object.
The curse couldn’t have been linked to Voldemort’s life. When he was reduced to a wraith, his body was destroyed, and his magic was reduced to nearly nothing.
The D.A.D.A. curse wouldn’t last if it was dependent on Voldemort, especially when he fled to Albania. He wasn’t even able to tell when one of his Horcruxes was destroyed until he had a body again.
From that, I’m convinced the D.A.D.A. curse has to be linked to Voldemort’s Horcruxes. More specifically, Ravenclaw’s Diadem. The Diadem Horcrux would not only have the power to sustain the curse, but it’s kept inside Hogwarts.
If I spend this year destroying the Horcruxes and killing any Death Eaters that get in my way, the rest of my time here will be rather peaceful.
Harry can deal with Voldemort when he returns. I have no idea where he hides until Wormtail finds him, and I don’t really want to waste my time searching for him.
I would rather spend my time gaining the power to break free of Other Me.
If only I had the Reality Stone…
I can dream later. Standing up, “Trixie, it’s time to invite a guest to the manor. He is a rude little shit, but please ignore his comments. For now.”
After a mumbled agreement, I loudly call out, “Kreacher!” After a few moments of silence, I call again, “Kreacher! I can help you fulfill your master’s task, Kreacher! I can destroy the locket given to you by Regulus Black, Kreacher!”
With a light crack, a hideous house-elf appears in front of me. A long pointed nose dominates his aged face, and there’s more hair in his ears than on top of his head. Even hunched over, he is still a full head taller than Trixie.
With a grating voice, Kreacher asks, “What does the scaleless dragon know of Kreacher’s master?”
Can all house-elves detect my dragon side? I’ll have to look into hiding this in the future. If an entire race of beings can detect it, others might as well.
From the corner of my eye, I see Trixie swell with indignation, but she remains quiet. Staring down at Kreacher, “I know your master tasked you with destroying a locket, and you failed. I know I can destroy that locket. For a price.”
The shiny eyes of the wrinkled house-elf grow wide with interest. “How does the dragonkin know this?”
These dragon names are starting to annoy me. Keeping the annoyance out of my voice, “Do you want to know how I gained this knowledge, or do you want your task fulfilled?”
Kreacher’s eyes dart about for a short moment before he focuses on me. “What price must Kreacher pay?”
“It is nothing difficult or permanent. You just have to let me borrow some books, specifically, the magical books from the library at Grimmauld Place.
“You just have to bring the books here tonight. I’ll make copies of them, and you can return them to their rightful place. No one will ever know. I won’t even make copies until after your master’s task is completed. That is all.” I stare into the eyes of the hateful creature. I don’t trust him, but if he backs out of the deal, it’s not a huge loss.
“Mistress will be angry you put your filthy hands all over her books,” Kreacher hisses at me. Flexing my power a bit, everything in the room begins levitating, including myself. Looking at the despicable little heathen, I say, “My hands will not touch anything.”
Looking at the levitating items, Kreacher comes to a decision. “You destroy the locket, then Kreacher brings books.”
“No,” I immediately counter. I drop an empty trunk from my subspace in front of Kreacher. “You take this trunk and fill it with magical books from the Black Library. Then bring the locket and filled trunk back here. I’ll destroy the locket then.” I’m trying to eliminate as many loopholes as possible without confusing the villainous little being.
Kreacher puffs his cheeks before finally agreeing. With a snap of his skeletal fingers, he and the trunk disappeared.
“That is a bad house-elf! Master Dragon Sir needs to punish it! Severely!” Trixie finally breaks her silence in an angry tirade. Her little balled fists are shaking.
To be honest, I’ve thought of killing Kreacher. Not because I care he betrays Sirius in a few years, but to keep him from telling Narcissa Malfoy about me. The thought of Trixie, knowing I killed a house-elf, stays my hand. I don’t want her to fear me.
“It is not his fault, Trixie. He has been taught nothing but hate his entire life. But if he goes too far…” I leave the rest unsaid.
Trixie doesn’t look satisfied but sharply nods her head.
Before ten minutes pass, a sharp crack fills the room. Kreacher is standing beside my trunk with a gold locket in his hand.
Lifting the lid of my trunk, I verify it’s filled with magical books. I quickly check for illusions or curses. When there are no signs of deceit, I close the lid. With a satisfied smile, I send the trunk into my subspace.
Kreacher won’t be able to run off with the trunk now.
Seeing the disgruntled house-elf about to say something, I command, “Place the locket on the table and step back.”
Kreacher looks like he’s about to start protesting, but he eventually complies.
I briefly inspect the locket laid on the table. It is a large oval with a serpentine S inlaid with glittering green stones. It looks completely normal, but my senses are warning me of danger.
Not taking chances, I create a powerful magic structure before saying, “Hah qah!” (mind defense)
With my mental defenses in place, it’s time to work on the locket. I create a Master level magic structure in both hands before bringing them together and chanting, “Dur al!” (curse destroyer)
As soon as the crystal bolt of magic strikes the locket, I bring the goblin-wrought knife from my subspace and launch it at the locket.
The knife cleanly cuts through the locket and embeds into the tabletop.
With an agonizing scream, a massive bellow of black fog rushes out of the locket. In the swirling darkness, the image of a screaming face takes form.
Quickly gathering my magic, I yell out, “Sil kriid!” (soul slayer), and fire the spell into the center of the fog. The moment the purple beam enters the darkness, deafening thunder echos out.
An unstoppable force draws in every bit of the fog into a single pin size hole. With a blink of purple light, the last of Voldemort’s soul vanishes. Complete silence falls over the room.
I doubt using Soul Slayer was necessary, but I wanted to test out the spell. I may be able to reverse engineer the spell to prevent Other Me from fulfilling his threat.
After seeing the spell in action, I can’t wait to create more!
