Project Overworld - Volume 1
Keith opened his eyes to the dim light of his base. Apparently, the explosion was enough to deplete all his vitality and he died because of this. Fortunately he set his spawnpoint in a bed he crafted near the entrance of his cave.
Recently, he had been drying a lot of grass and other plants in order to make useful crafts such as a bed and ropes but he also used them as fuel for his torches and his main fireplace.
Now that he had discovered gunpowder, he was very enthusiastic about exploring the depths of the cave again, but with more preparation beforehand.
First of all, he needed more space to hold all of the resources he could get during his expedition, so had to craft bags to help him with this.
Then he had to go and fetch the loot he dropped when he died back in the explosion.
Finally, he needed a rope, and a really long one. From the look of it, the torch did fall for a few seconds before hitting the floor, meaning the crevasse was at least a hundred foot deep.
Once the preparations made, he headed to the edge of the pit and started crafting a giant rope with all the dried plant he had gathered. After several minutes, he was able to put feet at the bottom and took all the gunpowder he could fit in his inventory and in his bags. However, the main reason he had investigated the depths of the cavern in the first place was iron. The bottom of the fossa seemed to be large enough to explore, but his inventory was full and he needed to restock his food and water supplies. Thus, he decided to climb back to the top.
The builders of the New Dawn guild were starting the foundations of their base. They decided on the area they would build it into, and the work was advancing quite fast. Alan was a good leader, he organized people into groups with different function, such as food gathering, building, and so on.
Nobody seemed to complain and everyone was now accomplishing the tasks they were assigned to.
After discussing with Alan about the caveman that Amber had engaged a treaty with, they both agreed that she will be the intermediate between the guild and him. Last time she saw him, she didn’t ask what kind of resources he’d want, so she now was packing up a whole lot of basic resources.
She didn’t want to take anything precious in case the caveman was not the friendly player he seemed to be.
She then headed toward the river where she first saw the caveman.
Keith hunted some animals in the forest to restock in food. On the way to the forest he thought that it wasn’t convenient to walk half a mile to find food. However, cultivating and breeding takes some time, so it wasn’t really an option for now. The system does accelerate thing a lot, but it still takes a several days in real life.
Day and night cycle is faster in Project Overworld than in real life, so that people who cannot play at certain hours could still enjoy the advantages of both phase. It also forces players to craft and use some light sources for the night, making the game more realistic.
On his way back, he was still thinking about how to solve his food problems when he felt something odd about his cave. He rushed into it and found the girl he talked to some time ago inside.
– “What are you doing here?” He said aggressively.
– “Oh, hey. I came here to give you some resources following the treaty we made. My name is Amber, let’s try and get along well.”
‘Oh, so it is like that. Should I give her a spear? Her guild doesn’t seem really developed and she may even be satisfied with some rudimentary tools. However if I remember correctly the terms of our agreement were that I provided them with weapons.’
– “Don’t worry, you don’t have to give me anything in return. We didn’t really deliberate to when we should start working together. Thus, from now on, I will be coming here in the midst of every in-game day.”
As it seemed the caveman wasn’t going to answer, she headed outdoors to go back to her guild.
Right before she left, Keith finally said : “I am Keith, thanks for the resources.”.
‘Oh finally, he showed some courtesy!’ Amber thought.
After she left, Keith inspected his base to determine if she took anything from his stocks.
As he didn’t report any missing items, he equipped his pickaxe and a torch, and went back to mining in his pit.
Now that he had a resource like gunpowder, his future seemed bright. However he really needed iron and other rare metals to advance to the next era of his inventions.
